The familiar sound of the alarm was all that was needed to wake Kai up from his deep slumber. Kai turned to look at his clock and turned off the alarm. The 6 foot 1 inch white tiger looked into the mirror and brushed his hair to it natural position which looked more like a mane according to his friends than it did hair. Shuck off his night clothes an putting on his school uniform Kai hurried to get ready but was startled when his phone rang.

"Yes?" Kai said groggily.

"Hey but its me Jason, you ready for tonight?" a voice said on the phone.

"Ahh crap!". Kai exclaimed, I for got the shows are moved up to Friday now aren't they.

"Ya." Jason said back. "And remember we have practice right after school so were gonna have to change in the bathrooms there at the shop".

"But the place only has one stall". Kai shot back

"yes but it aint like were gay or anything so what it matter"?

Kai paused, he hadn't told that he felt somehow, different lately he was confused as to his preference. He couldn't shake the thought from his head could he be bi; or even worse gay?

"Nah Kai said back it isn't like im gonna sit there staring you down or something now."

"Okay well see ya at school then?"

"Yea".

Kai sighed. " Phew that was a little close". He couldn't help but to think what would happen if his friends found out, or even worse his family. It tried not to let it bother him as he grabbed his bass and walked out the door heading toward school.

Upon arriving at school he saw his friend Jason. An Appaloosa stallion standing his same height with dark chestnut coat, black mane and tail highlighted with golden blonde streaks, and his hands and hooves were tufted buy long grey fur around his ankles and wrists. This all came together to make a handsome stallion, when asked about his grey fur tufts and forehead spot and why they didn't match his mane he explained that pattern on his back matched up very well.

"Well? What took ya so long man?" Jason asked with a sly smile highlighted by his light blue eyes.

"Ah nothing". Said Kai. "Just didn't feel like rushing to my least favorite activity"

"Sure" Jason shot back as they entered their large school that even though was public had a private feel to it, seeing as there were uniforms and a "contract" you had to sign promising to uphold the "mission statement" and rules of the school. Even though segregation had ended a while back there were still some humans that didn't like the "anthros" coming to their school, but for the most part the humans were kind and it was even starting to seem that there were more anthros than humans around.

At their lockers the guys met up with the rest of their band. Ashlen a mustang mare that had a light chestnut coat with a black mane, she had a thing for Jason but let noone know it and did a good job of making it rather less than obvious to Jason himself. She was the drummer, one of the best around she could pick up a beat to anything and had a rather good voice. Then there was Kyle the vocalist for the most part and the rhythm guitarist he was the typical grey wolf average height but had one unique quirk he hated his tail being touched. He was the one usually surrounded bu the girls which were attracted mainly to his loner stage attitude and his signature m-shaped bang hair do which looked much like that of a character from a human RPG game. One of the many things he was into. But off stage he was like all the rest, he was fun loving and laid back. Although since hooking up with a cute Faye he seemed to have settled down, slightly albeit but he was noticeably more reserved.

After a short conversation they went their separate ways to their classes Jason and Kai into math for their first hour and the others went on to science. The classes were large enough that they were split up in a manner that the office called random but seemed to lead more toward the level of their placement tests taken the year before.

The day seemed to go by rather quickly, much to the liking of the whole crew. All went smooth right up to band practice. Every one brought their gear and noone was late, some thing that was quite unusual.

"Well every one here?" Kai asked

"yes I think so" Ashlen said.

The group gathered up their stuff and began to jam and practice some of their signature songs. All went well Jason playing lead guitar Kai on bass Ashlen on drums and Kyle on vocals.

"Great!" Exclaimed Kai "that sounded awesome."

The band went on to the coffee shop and were greeted by the sounds of arcade games and friends laughing waiting for the show.

Wow Kyle said look our fans are here said kai sarcastically

The guys unloaded their stuff and helped ashlen get her drums out of the trailer. Look guys ill be back here later but im leaving the truck and trailer here ill take the car you guys rode over in. Said Lyle a tall stallion with nearly identical markings as Jason, wish stood to reason considering that he was Jason father.

Every one headed inside and set up their equipment. Well lets go get in costume said Kyle

sure Jason returned the sound check can wait.

In the one stall bathroom the guys began to change, Kai was bending over to get his pants on when he noticed Jason take off his shirt, Kai paused staring at the pattern on jason back. What? Jason said in a lazy voice.

N..nothing Kai said trying to hold back a blush. I didn't notice the pattern on your back before it just seems different from the time the four of us went to the beach. Kai paused did he just say what he thought he did he just give away that he was admiring jason back. If so what would Jason say.

Yes Jason said back. I've been working out a bit and plus my coats getting darker now im starting to look more like my dad.. Unfortunately. He smirked

yea okay. Said Kai. He let out a sigh in his mind. Wow that was close he thought a little too close.

The band met on stage for a sound check. Kai, Jason and Kyle fired up their amps and started to tune their guitars, ashlen started playing a complicated rhythm on the drums making sure everything was right and stopping to adjust the snare every time Jason bent over to adjust one of his effect pedals.

One..two..three, Kyle counted out and the band instantly picked up to the beat ashlen was laying down. There sound did not match there look exactly they looked more like a generic group of loners or rockers but were pouring out prog rock and hard rock riffs. Their sound check was met with the applause of the now entering crowd. One fur in particular caught jason attention. A darkly colored Arabian/mustang mix, dark coated with a white forehead patch and white tufts much like jason but lighter. But wait Jason thought to himself, it's a stallion. Jason couldn't break away from that stallions eyes, they were a dark blue something about them was oddly comforting to Jason. Jason eyes widened as he noticed that the handsome stallion was staring back at him. Wait Jason thought I cant be attracted to him he's a guy. This thought was broke when the lighting shifted to the stage and all that was visible was the front row of head bangers.

Kai stepped up to the mike and introduced the band one member at a time starting with ashlen and ending with Jason. "Uh Jason?.. Jason?"

Oh right. Jason snapped out of it and blisters an arpeggio sweep in a, which to his surprise excited the crowd.

Yea Kyle said out loud yall ready?

The crowd roared back in unintelligible up roar. the band ripped out into one of its more popular songs, im the me you think you know, and uproar. Midway through the solo of the next to last song Jason noticed the stallion from before right in front of him, and what's that he thought to himself is he ..smiling at me? Jason shook the thought from his head and did the only thing he could think to do, smile back. Kai saw this, no way Kai thought to himself, they must be old friends or something. The final song ended in a four way instrument dual for the fun of it and was rewarded by a thunderous applause.

"Wow" Kai said that's our best gig yet.

"Yes" Ashlen said, "and Jason did a bit more jumping around that usual, didn't ya? Uh Jason?

But Jason was already loading his stuff into the trailer. The others did the same and they rushed back in to catch the other band playing just wanting to hang with their friends. Suddenly Jason felt an arm tug on him it was the stallion from before. Oh great what's he going to do know I wonder. Hi my names leo, yea I know before ya say it I'm a horse with a lion name. The strange but attractive horse reached out his hand with a grin, Jason couldn't get over his eyes. The two shook hands. Well call me lee and your name is? Leo asked Jason,

Jason, he said shyly. Jason thought to himself for a sec, is he flirting with me or is he even gay?

Well wanna go cheer on that band Jason,?leo said kindly.

Sure Jason said back as the two approached the front row and began to head bang, between the second and third band the two talked about simple things like their taste in music their favorite actors favorite movies and such till leo shot out a deep question. So that mare over there is she yours?

Nah Jason said we aren't together I mean she dosent even like me and to tell the truth im not exactly interested either. Jason paused did he just give away something he shouldn't have.

oh just wondering leo said. Jason could have then swore he heard leo say something under his breath.

The rest of the night seemed to soar by as Jason and his new friend hit it off, Kai couldn't help but to notice that something seemed odd that Jason hadn't acted like this in quite some time. Jason was startled by a smack on his head he turned to see Kyle with their paychecks each of the band grabbed their own as the final band played their last song of the night.

Hey le.. Jason trailed off the handsome stallion was nowhere to be seen. Hmm odd the thought to himself. He disappeared quickly.

After dropping everyone at their respective abodes. The only two left in the car were Jason, who was driving, and a seemingly deep in thought Kai.

Jason, Kai said turning to the horse beside him.

Yea Jason said with out looking off from the road.

That guy tonight who was he?

Jason paused. Was Kai on to him? Did he know? "Just a friend" Jason said

oh didn't know just wondering, Kai said seemingly un impressed.

After dropping Kai off at his house Jason hurried home in his car, he parked and went inside to take a shower. After running up stairs he took off his clothes and got in a warm shower. The warm water ran down his head and mane toward his chest, making his coat shinier that normal. He slipped the small wrap from his tail, the kind that all male horses wear for hygiene reasons. Grabbed the shampoo, and gently and carefully he ran his fingers through his tail. Getting out every kink making every last hair as clean as can be, this is one thing Jason took pride in he had to have his tail and mane perfect. He hated knots and tangles and always wanted his hair to look its best. After rinsing his tail he went and did the same to him mane. That when it hit him, he remembered the stallion from the shop that night. His dark blue eyes his smile his body. Wait Jason he said to himself he was a guy. But that didn't help it felt right he felt truly attracted to him something he had never quite felt before. Is he even gay? he thought, and if so does he even like me?, and if he does what will it lead to. It was then he noticed his stallion hood rising coming out of its sheath. Nah he thought to him self I cant be turned on by a guy.. Can I? He reached down to take his stallioness in hand, he thought of his new "friend" and suddenly.

"Ahhh " the shower went cold. Jason jumped up. "What the heck he thought".

He heard his dad down stairs yell. "Sorry son I think the water heater went out".

"Oh yea I never would have guessed" Jason whispered to himself. after drying off Jason looked himself over in the mirror. Im glad dad finally fixed that fan, he said to himself with a sigh. After looking himself over and brushing his mane and tail straight he went to bed.

Plopping down on the bead Jason went over the events of that day. He pondered on his new friend and the possibility that he can become more that friends. It was then staring at his ceiling fan he made the realization and accepted that he my well be gay. But for some reason it felt right it felt at though for the first time he was honest to himself and was who he truly was.
