My Life as a Slave

Live or Die

Today is my birthday I am six years old and my fate has already been decided. I will be a slave for the rest of my naturally born days. I was unfortunate enough to have slave parents. I was taken from them a year ago when they said I was old enough to leave them behind. So here I sit just hoping that I would be saved from a fate of death. I would be killed at the end of today if I wasn't chosen.

I had seen others who weren't as qualified as me to be taken to begin their lives work. An offering of free room and board and all you have to is follow their rules. In this situation this is a life better than death. I have known some who would rather die than live like that. I really didn't know if I wanted that kind of life.

In my small cell an 8x10 foot cell, I had a bed as well as a small bathroom that hid me from the others. A luxury I guess in some sorts of times depending on weather the master was nice enough. All I wanted is to live trough till tomorrow. On the outside of my cell was a description about who I am and what my capabilities are. Basically the only resume a slave will ever have.

"Today's the day scum," said the guard.

"I know sir," I said unhappily.

"Just keep quiet slave," he replied before zapped me with a shock stick.

I didn't like being zapped with a shocky stick. That's one thing I won't miss about this place. I hope someone comes and saves me before I am killed in three hours the exact time of my birth. Heard someone enter in the shop just now I hope they pick me. It was an elderly old Lynx, she had the look of a kind and caring woman.

She walked down the rows of small cramped cells. She stopped and looked a Tasmanian devil, male, before she continued on. Then she saw me and I recognized that look poor little thing. she said nothing of the sort. I just knew that that's how they all act towards me. I thought she was going to leave after a while and she did to the front counter and asked if the price could be haggled.

"I am quite sure that he is worth every penny of the cost," the German Sheppard said.

"Well maybe I could speak to the manager then," she said.

"I'll go get her," the German Sheppard said and went into the back.

"I'm the manager," said the one and only white creature I had only met before.

"I want to talk about the price on that one," the lynx said and pointed at me.

"Well what about him," the manager asked.

"I want a cheaper price," the lynx said, "it isn't a matter of price its that I see you make a huge profit off of that poor little creature. He is hardly worth what you ask, I saw his ribs he hardly has a proper diet. I would pay not a penny more than a thousand for him."

"Done," said the manager replied.

The manager went back to my cage and grabbed at the set of keys that a janitor for a school would have. I felt hope for the first time in over a year. Now time would tell if it was worth it. She was quite nice from the way she held me but I still was a little withdrawn from her.
