#3 of Wind of Change

It was a good day in a summertime forest in rural Vitania, where the trees are full of trees and many animals roamed the land. It was also a good day for picnic, too. Many people of all races came to the grassland in front of the rural forest to just enjoy the nature without being surrounded by white painted buildings or glass domes. While there are some eco-adapting buildings with its own natural forest, it was a different place compared to the rare old forest in the rural countryside. Some, though, like Lycans, preferred to be inside the forest, just running around like a free wolf. The government put a strict regulation in hunting, but the Lycans are past that for more than a hundred years.

Amhyr was one of the weirdest bunch in that picnic. Aside from the fact that he was a draconian, he was married to a Lycan. A good timber werewolf who loved him for so many years now. They were laying down on the grass, watching the sky, with nothing to do except watching the sky. Then, the Lycan went to the forest, wanting to 'run like a free wolf', leaving Amhyr alone. After a while, he wanted to eat the specifically made sandwich from his wife when a wolf came to him. He thought it was a stray wolf, or maybe another Lycan, but something about it was strange. It was as white as snow, but its mouth and snout was covered in something's blood. It was ready to attack him, making a hunting stance. Amhyr wasn't afraid about the wolf because of his wife, making him vulnerable to its attack, which surprised him. It was the worst ambush he had ever had for a while.

It also woke him up, back in his bedroom, in the middle of the night, panting in panic. His Lycan wife also woke up because of Amhyr's sudden wing movement.

"What's wrong, Amhyr?" asked his wife as she turned on the lights. "Is it that nightmare again?"

Amhyr nodded to her. She made a sigh and said, "Is it another white wolf that attacked you?"

"What the hell is wrong with me, Rose? Am I being cursed by a werewolf? Hey, have I done something wrong to you these past weeks?"

"Amhyr, it is just a dream."

"I cannot say a recurring dream is a 'dream'. Someone is definitely cursing me."

It was true. Amhyr had been dreaming the same set of dream three times each week. It had started for at least a month, and Rose tried to ensure him that not all werewolves have shamanic abilities, especially those living in Vitania. Even those with magical capabilities like Rose is pretty rare around the town of Caldwell.

"No native werewolves I know in this country have spiritual powers like in your country, Amhyr. At least, the werewolves I know don't do that."

"I am not sure I can take this anymore, Rose. C'mon...let's go to sleep again."

This revelation had piqued Rose's interest on Amhyr's condition. In Vitania, it was rare to have a draconian and a Lycan to love each other and even married with each other. What's even rarer was the fact that they bore twin hybrids of werewolf and draconian, which was a very rare occurrence, like a griffin, which had gone extinct a very long time ago. Though it was rare, it wasn't a recent trend. Rose hadn't aware of it because of her 200 years cryogenic sleep, but 15 years was a long time to adapt.

The next morning, Rose resolved on trying to find a wolf priest while doing her job as a scientist. In an ironic twist, she was the employee of the same research center that invented and perfected cryogenic sleep, now turning their attention to the effects of a Lycan virus, which had changed ordinary humans into werewolves throughout the world. Again, in another twist, Rose was one of the original descendants of the Van Helsing family, known in history as fighting for Lycan rights and equality. Her family was survived by her older brothers and younger sister, and the Van Helsings were known to still live in Vitania and around the world. The main descendant line, though, lived in where Rosalinda originally from, in Old Portsmouth. She went there one day and many of them were surprised that their ancestor was still alive after 200 years and almost though she was a wolf spirit, which she successfully explained to them about it.

Finishing her work shift, she wanted to go to Old Portsmouth again, thinking that she might get some answers from one of her family members that she knew and still alive after all these years. She wanted to take Amhyr along with her, but he was too tired on talking about werewolf mystic and wanted to stay with his own draconic magic. It was his choice, though. He was thrown into an unknown mystic world that draw upon the lunar powers and magic uncommon to draconians like him.

Old Portsmouth was just some minutes away from Caldwell with a wolf's running speed. She managed to reach the Van Helsings' mansion, still occupied by her descendants, but in truth, it harbored the main arsenal of killing off the vampire race, started by her descendant Abraham Van Helsing, one of the earliest werewolves in Vitania.

It seemed awkward to be greeted as a guest in a childhood home, but nevertheless, it wasn't her home anymore. It is now the home of Benedict Van Helsing, one of her descendants, who was fascinated by his own lineage that he started asking so many questions about what it was like 200 years ago. Aside from that, he was a historian.

Upon seeing Rose, Ben stood up and said, "Welcome, Rosalinda. It's so nice to see you again. How's work?"

"Nothing's weird, but I still can't grasp the double irony I am getting."

"Don't worry, my dear, we all know werewolves have this kind of virus, so we try not to have a problem about it. What's preposterous is how they say it's an STD! Those bloody politicians."

"At least the king is okay with our presence. You are a knight under King William, right?"

"Ah, talking about the royal family again. Oh, would you care for some tea?"

"It's tea time already? Oh, thank you for the offer, but I have an urgent thing I must talk about with my brother. How is he holding up?"

"He's so fit for a 200 years old wolf, much like you, Rose."

Rose made a small laugh. "Oh, you tease. Don't worry, I'll be brief. Tell Chrissy I say hello."

Their werewolf butler came to escort her to one of the oldest wings in the mansion, which was actually an old section of her childhood home. The mansion wasn't looking too ancient anymore with some hi-tech touch in the corners of the room, but it still leaves the distinctive classic brick architecture that was set apart from the ultra-modern white buildings in the big cities.

As the door opened into a massive circular room, she found one of her last surviving siblings; a giant timber wolf who had actually embraced the power of the moon to practically become an immortal, after leaving his werewolf body. He was very old, and looking ancient, but she knew him nevertheless, notably because of his fur pattern. It was like a blown-up version of her brother.

He found her scent, as did she. Then, the giant timber wolf walked towards her from a dark corner, and started to talk.

"Well, hello, Rosey. You're still lovely as always," said the wolf while moving his head down to Rose's werewolf form. "How's your work."

"I told Ben about the double irony I am getting at. Seriously, I miss that funny old prime minister back in our day."

"I missed our king more than that prime minister. Still remember how Nige actually work with Prince Winston in the military? He's a charmer, you see."

"Yeah...anyway, royal family aside, could you tell me about something very peculiar in my family?"

"Yes, just tell me what's wrong."

"Andy...my husband got a vision of a white wolf in his dreams."

This took the big wolf's attention. He sat down and said, "What kind of dream?"

"I don't know. He just said a white wolf came to him with bloodied face, then started attacking him before he woke up. It's been months now and I start to suspect that someone is doing something to him. He also thought he was cursed by werewolves in the work, but as far as I know, not everyone had that much mystical energy in them."

"Hmm...yes, that's very intriguing indeed. Maybe he was affected by your conjuring magic in your past adventures."

"Hmm...not in a way that's harmful to him."

"Well, sis, I'm so sorry to say this, but for a draconian to even have a vision of a white wolf is out of my knowledge. It sounds like a shamanic spirit wolf from the Arnuka werewolves. But one thing I can say is maybe that your husband has been accepted as a Lycan himself."

"Oh, come on, brother, you know that's bollocks."

"World changes, apparently."

"Uh...okay then. I'm sorry if I intrude you from your sleep, but why are you emerging from dark shadows?"

"Oh, the bloody lights are busted again. Ben is trying to find some workers who's not terrified by a giant wolf."

Rose then laughed. "Good luck with that, Andy. I'll take my leave, then. Stay healthy, okay?"

"You, too. Have a good job. Oh, and Rose."

"Hmm?"

"Tell Rithola it's fine for dreaming a wolf. The goddess is not picky in interracial marriage."

She silently acknowledged it and disappeared behind the big gate.

Ben followed her to the front gate, in which he said, "Rose, I just want to say. Whatever my elder told you, I think it's his best intention. You should know about it, at least."

Rose believed her brother, somewhat. Since he was still a Lycan, he believed of the spiritual world far more than the other Van Helsings did, and was aware of the moon goddess's blessings. Seeing Andrew made Rose returned to the reality of the world where technology and magic married each other and co-exist within their lives, which made Terra such a unique place to live. She kept thinking about Amhyr's condition, even when she turned into a wolf to run back to Caldwell.

Just then she saw it. A white wolf emerged in front of her in a blink of her eye. It's either the fastest wolf she had ever knew or it was an apparition. Rose believed the latter, but surprisingly, even for her, she wasn't stunned or scared. She thought it was a message.

"Are you...trying to tell me something?" asked Rose. The white wolf, of course, didn't answer. It's just staring at her, somehow intrigued by a bigger wolf. Its blue eyes were mesmerizing, even for Rose, but she knew some Lycans had some good blue eyes, while most, like her, had brownish yellow eyes. Those with blue eyes were quite rare, especially those with albinism.

Or was it an albino wolf?

The wolf turned around and started running. Rose now felt something was wrong with it, and started following it. They were running in the middle of the city, but then it stopped. It stared towards Rose again, and it sat there, like a dog. No one noticed it, but like when it emerged, it disappeared again, in a blink of an eye. She didn't think anything of it was relevant.

Until she moved her head upwards...

"The Aquran embassy?" thought Rose. "But, what's it implying with me here?"

The Aquran embassy, or the 'Fish Tank', as said by people on the street, was one of the first extraterrestrial embassies in Terra. After making a business deal with the Aqura, the embassy became the first successful post-war intergalactic relationship between two alien races.

Which made even more questions to her. What was the white wolf implying? Just at the same time, at the nearby hologram newsstand, there was a breaking news.

"This just in. A freak supernova accident destroyed a commercial space station in the far-reach system. The space station, known as Zeta station, disintegrated upon being hit by a massive burst of energy. At least a million people are killed by it...oh my god..."

This announcement was, of course, a shock to everyone heard about it. It was the first time in many years a death toll was that high. One million people perished by a supernova accident? It wasn't scientific, really, but there was a regulation of stationing a space station, so Rose was more suspicious on why they put a commercial space station near a dying star.

She then realized what she knew about the Zeta station, and she ran towards the shocked Aqura guarding the gate. They were also stunned by the news.

"Can I have a subspace communication with a particular Aquros?" asked Rose. "Please, this is bloody urgent!"

It snapped one of them from the shock and directed her to a nearby subspace terminal. The Aquros operating it was also in shock, and Rose was the first one running there before a swarm of Aqura and Terrans started surrounding the terminal. It was horrific. Once everyone realized what had happened, not guards, not operators, not even civilians couldn't contain their surprise.

Rose, meanwhile, managed to find an operator booth. The female Aquros was shocked, but she was willing to talk to Rose.

"Y-yes? May I help you?"

"I need you to connect me with a Capisa S'hor! I'll take the fastest connection possible!"

The operator obliged. Rose suddenly got a feeling that Capisa was the only Aquros she could trust right now, and she needed it if she wanted to know what was exactly going on, when she remembered that Capisa was an As'karan.

Zeta station was an Aquran-governed space station.
