Believe - Chapter 11: Cloudy night
Imya slept long this day and when she got up it was dark. Carefully she got up and crawled out of the den that she used for the day. After relieving herself she looked up in search of the star that guided her bug no light was at the sky. It was covered in thick clouds and neither the star, nor the moon could get past them. Imya felt insecure and lost. She had no guide for the continuation of her journey. She rand a bit back and forth until she decided to rest for the night. She hoped that in the next night it would clear up and she could follow the star again. She ate a bit of snow that melted in her muzzle to water. She was only a bit thirsty and not hungry at all. She had had enough food in the last nights to last for one or two more nights without finding any food. After her drink, she crawled back into the den and snuggled into the dry leaves. If felt soft and warm and her thoughts drifted off from the den and her hard journey home to her pack. What were they doing now? Were they even searching for her or did they give up on her already? Would Demon tell the adults what he had done and would he feel sorry or happy about her getting lost?
Imya did not have answers to that but thinking about them made her feel home sick. For the first time in her life she wished to be lectured by her father about the ways of the wolf. Silently she began to whisper the poem of the story of creation, one of the first things she had to learn in the lessons of her father.
"Once there was nothing, just land empty and cold!
High above it was the moon, wise and old!
He watched over it with patience, stood his hold!
But he felt loneliness in his heart!
He wished for the land to be wild and free!
He wished for water and life there to be!
He formed the mountains, the valleys, the sea!
And this was just the start!
From the earth, he made trees, strong and tall!
From the sea he formed the river and the waterfall!
But he didn't stop there, that was not all!
This was just the very first part!
He blew over the land, created the wind!
Filled lakes with water, until they were brimmed!
Everything looked neat and trimmed!
The moon looked at his own art!
But in all this beauty there was something amiss!
Something that would make whole the world and bring him real bliss!
On the highest mountain he then placed a kiss!
And from the mountain it broke loose a shard!
The shard he formed, gave it eyes and teeth!
He gave it a fur with skin underneath!
The brought it to life with just one breath!
And he called it "Wolf" and his guard!
When the moon looked at his creation he smiled!
The wolf was his master piece, his first-born child!
So we are what the moon wanted, loyal and wild!
The wolf is the gem of his yard!"
Imya cried a bit when she remembered this old poem. She remembered that she had loved it in the past but soon all the lessons had been just a hassle for her. She loved old stories but the stiff rules and laws had never been fun. When she thought about it now, she was proud to be a wolf, a child of the moon, but she was not sure if she believed in the moon like the other wolfs did.
Didn't her journey proof that the moon was not a god? That he was not helping her when she needed him the most?
The star had been much more helpful but Imya pondered if the star was maybe a god and if he was on good terms with the moon or not. Imya could not explain why she believed in this star. Maybe it was just something that she wanted to believe in because she had never been able to believe in the moon. What was believe anyway?
Over all the pondering and repeating some of the old stories or laws in her head or mumbling them silently the night passed by. When she checked outside after a few hours a heavy snowfall had began and she was not able to see further than one meter. She quickly returned into the den and rolled into a ball of fur over the bed of leaves.
'At least I am safe.' She thought and closed her eyes. She did not see that the light outside was getting brighter and the day started. When the clouds finally stopped with throwing snow on the land beneath them and drifted away to make place for the sun to send her blinding rays down on the carped of white snow, Imya was already fast asleep with happy dreams about her pack and her home.
