Neighborly Nilla nears neverending nose without Nezhi.

A commission for /u/dpdm56 of his dragon girl Nilla, with a particular Pinnochio infliction.

Nilla slowly wandered about the forests outside of her village, a thing she was wont to do on a fairly regular basis. Even though she's done it nearly every day for years, now, she hadn't found every nook and cranny in the surrounding trees, so she continued to explore. The yellow-scaled dragoness brushed her fluffy, neck-length brown hair from in front of her deep blue eyes after she climbed over a felled log, which put her in a decently sized clearing new to her. With it being nearly midday, now, the she-dragon decided to take a short rest and have a little food.

She decided to sit against the tree which the felled one rested and pulled from her daypack a pair of turkey legs wrapped in a towel. She only took her first bite before she heard a soft noise, short and sad like a sob. When she heard it again a moment later, she would slowly get up and start searching for the source. In the sound-dampening natural environment, and with just how faint the sound was, she was led astray several times over the course of many minutes before she discovered what was crying: a small fairy, nothing more than a few inches tall and of peachy pink skin.

"Oh, my! A fairy! Why do you cry?" Nilla asked with a genuine frown. The dragoness crouched down slowly and kept her hands to herself to show that she was friendly.

The little fairy was startled by Nilla's appearance, but she quickly relaxed as she saw and sensed that the larger creature was of a kindred spirit. Slowly the small fairy stood from her spot on the ground. She wiped her eyes before she flapped her small translucent wings and floated up to be level with Nilla. "M-My home was cut down..." she sniffled before she pointed to the tree that Nilla had just climbed over. "They didn't use it because I had already hollowed much of it out to live in..." She started to sob again, so she landed on the dragoness's shoulder.

Nilla frowned even more severely, and almost started to cry herself! Gently, she scooped the magical creature off her shoulder and gently rubbed at her back with a single finger. "I'm very sorry to hear that," she murmured. She tried to console the small fairy with gentle speak and rubs until a thought crossed her mind. "I wish I knew who did this so I could give them what for," she said with a slight smile. It was quite a lie; Nilla wasn't capable of purposefully hurting a fly, much less confronting lumberjacks in a hostile manner. Nilla closed her eyes with a slight wince as the top half of her inch long snout began to expand. In just a moment, her muzzle had grown an extra inch.

The fairy was oblivious until Nilla set the small creature down on the bridge of her muzzle facing the dragoness. She slowed her cries and took a moment to look down before she realized what had happened. "How did your nose get bigger?" the fairy asked in bewilderment.

Nilla shrugged with a grin. "I have no idea how," she replied, and the end of her nose grew out approximate another inch. This made the fairy gasp and suddenly stand up. "You're welcome to stay with me until you find a new home," Nilla offered. The fairy immediately looked up to the yellow dragoness, tears in her eyes anew, except these were of happiness. She leaned forward and tried to hug Nilla's head, but her small arms only about reached the edges of Nilla's hairline.

"Thank you so much!" the small one exclaimed while she fought back more tears. She sat back down and wiped her eyes again. "I'm Nezhi, by the way. And thank you again."

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Nezhi," Nilla said with a smile. "Is there anything you need to grab from your old home before we leave?"

Nezhi shook her head. "Pretty much everything was broken when the tree fell..." She started to look wistful, but Nilla wouldn't have any of that.

"We'll replace your belongings eventually," she said cheerfully. Nezhi smiled up at the dragoness, and from then on they were best of friends.

A few days later, Nezhi flew up to Nilla with another fairy in tow. This one was green, and she looked as sad as Nezhi had looked when Nilla first found her. "Nilla! This is my friend, Fieur. She lost her home the same way I did! Can she stay with us?"

Nilla grinned wide and shook her head as she said, "No." Both fairies looked like they were about to start crying. Fieur did, but Nezhi noticed that Nilla's nose started to grow again. This made the peachy fairy start to giggle and hug her friend.

"Fieur, she was joking! Of course you can stay here. You even get a spot on her nose!" Fieur started to calm down some, then. She looked at Nezhi with a confused look about the nose comment and then looked up to Nilla with a surprised gasp.

"Your nose is bigger!" Fieur exclaimed.

Nilla replied, "No it isn't," and it grew once more, now about five inches long. This made Fieur giggle, now understanding what was happening with Nilla's nose.

And from then on, they were great friends.

Over time, as the village that Nilla lived in, and the other nearby villages started to grow in size, their need for wood also increased. This lead to many, many more fairies being stripped of their homes. Nilla had started to become something of a celebrity in the fairy world due to her kindness and generosity. Soon, the dragoness's home was filled with dozens and dozens of fairies, and thus her snout had grown several feet long.

It soon got to the point that Nilla was uncomfortable whenever there was a new arrival, especially since it seemed that each newcomer nowadays expressed an interest in using their own magic on her nose to make it seem more like home. She would politely decline their offers, but there had been a few incidents where the fairy would use their magic on her anyway. It was quickly undone by Nezhi, who would then give the fairy a stern talking to so that they wouldn't do it again, but there were always more fairies.

There were always more and more fairies, always more. In short order, Nilla's home was completely stuffed full of fairies, every surface having their influence. Nilla's nose was also worse for wear: it extended far, far outside of the dragoness's home, out the window, and far out of sight. Some widened sections of her nose to make room to build on, and some simply made their sections more wooden-like to make themselves feel more at home, with twigs and leaves growing from her scaled snout. With the sheer size and volume of fairies, Nezhi had to spend all of her time just undoing and shooing away all of the bad fairies!

Eventually, Nezhi just couldn't keep up. None of the other fairies were doing much to help besides superficial attempts at dissuading the mean fairies. The poor girl needed help! She went to Nilla, who was very sad at how things had turned out. "I'm going to go seek an elder fairy," the small creature said, "they'll be able to help us."

"How long will you be gone?" Nilla asked, afraid of her friend being gone for too long.

"Hopefully not too long," Nezhi replied. "I know there used to be one close by, but I'm not sure if his home has suffered the same fate as ours. I'll be back as soon as I can." The pink fairy gave the yellow dragoness a hug on her cheek before she flew out the window.

"I'll be awaiting your return eagerly!" Nilla called after her, then sighed, then started to cry.

It would be two days before Nezhi returned with an elder fairy, who'd heard of Nilla but was fortunate enough to avoid having his home destroyed. He was shocked at the amount of abuse that the she-dragon had suffered, and how cruel the other fairies could be in the face of such great generosity.

"Fairies!" he would call out like a crash of thunder. "I am very sorely disappointed in those of you who have abused this creature, who was so nice to you in your time of need."

The elder's voice cut through the tumultuous noise of so many fairies and caused an immediate hush over the entire home. Everyone looked his way immediately, and many heads bowed in shame.

"You all should undo whatever magic you have done to this lovely dragoness and apologize. Then you must leave and find new homes, even if you must fly for days." The elder fairy's decree was an absolute one, with no room for argument. To dishonor or disobey an elder would be grounds for exile.

One by one, fairies flew to their respective areas of influence and began to undo their magics, from Nilla's nose and body and home. It took many hours for everything to be undone, but once all was said and done, Nilla and her home were back to as they were before the other fairies arrived. It was a massive weight off of her shoulders (and her nose), one she thanked the elder fairy profusely for.

"How can I ever repay you?" she begged. "You've saved me and my home. I am forever grateful."

The old fairy gave a hearty chuckle and gently waved a hand. "The kindness you have shown my kind is more than enough payment, young one," he replied. "Please, do not let this sour your view of others, especially fairies. Just be as you are."

Nilla nodded eagerly, then gently snatched the elder up for a brief hug. "Of course, of course! Again, thank you."

The fairy was thoroughly surprised by the hug, but he laughed as he returned it to the best of his ability. After he was released, he floated up and towards the window. "You are most welcome, young one. Please, take care!" And with that, he flew out the window that Nilla's nose was just earlier stuck out.

From then on, Nezhi and Nilla lived fairly peacefully; occasionally, a fairy would come to them for help, and they would always provide it when they could. The elder fairy also visited from time to time and was always glad to hear that they no longer had problems with mean or bad fairies taking advantage of the dragoness.
