Chapter 3 â€" Understanding
The two figures moved into the light of the fire, Sam let his eyes wonder over the other creatures, a cat and something big and tall with feathers, perhaps a bird. The cat moved closer to him as the other one stood there looking at him not blinking.
"Hey are you okay?" the cat waked next to him and held out a paw helping Sam up. Sam nodded slowly and grabbed the paw standing up dusting himself off. "My name is Zee", the cat said, and that's Vincent over there." pointing behind him on the other side of the fire, "don't worry, he is nice, just a little shy, " Vincent waved a paw as if he were swatting a fly out of the sky. "what's your name?"
Sam blinked a few times, "well, i guess My.." he cleared his thought, "my name is Sam"
Vincent's eyes popped open after hearing the name, "Zee, get away, it's SAM!"
Zee chuckled and shook his head, "its just a coincidence Vincent, no need to blow your top." he said shaking his head lightly.
Sam looked in the direction of the bridge, "those two boys, that one didn't seem like he liked me just because I look like this, but the other boy, he seemed nice." Zee looked over to the bridge and nodded, "ya, Rai is okay if you don't get on his bad side, but the other one...the other one was Murdoch", he said in a low growl, "stay away from him if you know whats best, he hates any of the altered kids and the..."
Sam titled his head, " wait wait wait... altered kids, like you and me right? he looked behind Zee's shoulder at vincent, "and Vincent as well"?
Zee nodded and looked over to Vincent and back to Sam, "yeah, you, me... Vincent, the neko's, the kitsune... the hybrids, they give us hybrids, like you and me the name Fured ones, dont ask wh..."
"What!" Zee stopped in mid sentence as Sam yelled flailing his arms in the air, "This is all starting to sound like a big movie shoot."
Zee chuckled lightly and frowned, "if only it was... Maybe we're all asleep dreaming, maybe we are, maybe we arent".
Vincent moved closer, "tis has all been goin on fer years, an ya tellin me you dun know any of it, where ya been, under a rock?"
Sam shrugged to Vincent swishing his tail lightly lightly chuckling, "maybe..."
Vincent cocked an eyebrow, "what, ya plain games wif me or sumting? are ya having fun wif me"?
Sam moved closer to the fire and sat down next to it as he stared into it, "I don't know anything except who I am or where I am, anything else i try and think about...nothing"
Zee's ears twitched but didn't look over as he stared over at the water, "i wonder..." he said rubbing his chin, "Sam... close your eyes real fast, i wanna try something..."
Sam faced zee and titled his head, "wha, whats going to happen if i do, click my heels three times and say there's no place like freaking home!?!"
"Just do as I say", as a low growl emited from his chest, "I wanna see something" Sam shrugged and quickly closed his eyes wondering what zee was going to do as he heard Zee talk. "Ok, Now, focus, and tell me what you see, take deep breaths and let me know when you see something other then the darkness or if anything strange happens."
Sam sighed and focused on one spot..."I don't see any thing, just darkness... zee, i dont see how this is going to help me" he said while shrugging
"Just wait for it...it will come. you can rush these things Sam, no again, silence, do you see anything or anyone?" he said as he started pacing around the fire not looking away from Sam.
Sam shut his eyes tighter and waited and watched...if for anything, "I still don't see any..." he stopped suddenly, "...Zee, I...I see something...something white."
Zee closed his eyes and nodded quickly as he stopped pacing stand9ing next to Sam, "what all do you see turn around, maybe something is behind you. this is a start."
Sam shrugged and turned around, he tilted his head a little, "a...a door? I see a door...it's white....but... i dont see anything else, just the door..."
"hmmm, strange, i wonder what the door represents, maybe a door way into your past." he said eyeing Sam up and down scratching his chin.
The three stood there for a couple of minutes in silence, "umm, can I open my eyes now? Sam said laughing a bit rubbing the back of his head"
Zee's eyes poped a little and nodded slowly, "yea, its fine now, sorry, was thinking" Sam opened his eyes as the white room and white door flew off in the distance.
Vincent hadn't moved from his spot or blinked the whole time, suddenly his head twitched to the side looking over the river into the darkness, "we need ta get outta here... an fast,"
Zee looked up to Vincent and nodded, "ok Vincent". Vincent started running across the bridge as Zee leaped on all fours and started running after Vincent as he skidded to a halt at the bridges start, "Sam! Hurry up...now!"
Sam stood there for a couple seconds with a blank stare on his face before nodding and starting to run after the two, "What are we running for...or from?" Sam yelled out finding it funniny that he had already passed Zee, he had never been a good runner before.
"I'll explain when were safe" Zee started leaping small jumps as he ran across the bridge jumping over fallen posts and ducking under collapsed roofs and started running at full speeds his jacket flying behind him flopping in the wind. as all three made there way to the other side of the bridge into the city Vincent jumped into the air; at first it looked like he was flying until he came down quickly as he had gone up on top of a building, zee followed next, he jumped up two narrow buildings pushing off each one and leaping to the next. Sam opened his mouth as zee reached the top of the building, "Come on up, you're a fox, now climb fox, climb, use those claws!" Sam looked at his paws, they did get changed to fox paws, maybe he could use the claws for some good. He ran up to the building and sunk his claws into the concrete. He rammed the other paw into the building as he started climbing up the buildings side. as he got to the top he jumped ontop of the building landing with a light thud.
"what...what exactly where we running... running from?" he said out of breath huffing holdin his knees.
Vincent walked in between the two looking down at a building catching on fire and an explosion in the distance as he quietly said, "The werewolves and vampires...who else..."?
