#2 of Catnip!

Just as the sun sank behind the tall buildings in the distance, a familiar sound resonated around the cul-de-sac. Nimble digits moved like lightning across the bridge of the guitar, while Toby's second paw strummed at the cords swiftly. The fox played an upbeat, fast-paced melody of chords, still dressed in his school clothes while. The beat resonated off of the walls of the empty garage, while Mitch stood in the shadows and clutched a microphone to his heart - which was not connected to a speaker; merely a prop.

"The light filters through this foggy smoke,

Glittering like the gold in your eyes.

When that brand-new concrete finally broke,

You reached out to snatch that prize!"

The fox wailed on the strings, strumming with such speed it was a simple amazement that he had not snapped one of them. Tabby teenage kitten slowly stepped from the shadows, picturing an audience of screaming fans on the threshold of that garage-door.

"Throw the dart, draw a ticket,

Take the roll and let me kiss it-

See the burning in these eyes?

See my hunger for no more lies?"

Mitch took a sharp breathe, clutching the microphone before he stepped even further, taking a leap into center-stage of the garage. A fire burned in those ember eyes of his, screaming of passion and emotion. When that kitten got into his routine, he was a completely different person.

"Indeed, the bell doth toll for thee,

Take my paw and come with me.

Look to the sky, my dear

Fly into that beautiful oblivion..."

"I've got you, I've got you,

You'll never die alone.

I've got you, I've got you,

This is my love for you - part two!"

"That was great," exclaimed the kitten as he bounded in through the kitchen and into the living room, diving onto the large, grey and comfy couch. He had always adored the fox's home and his family's taste in furniture. Not too modern or too boring, and always warm and cozy. Soon the room was oddly silent, and the kitten flicked his ear gently towards the closed door. "Toby," the feline called, craning his head a bit. "Where did y-" He was cut off as a large orange streak flew across his vision and landed on top of him. The both of them were laughing as nimble digits tickled at the kitten's sides. Toby had grown up knowing the feline's ticklish spots, and it wasn't long before the other teenager gave into his friends forceful tickling.

"A-ahhh, I give!" The fox continued for a few moments before he finally ceased with a satisfied grin. "Oh, you little wimp!" The two of them always seemed to act younger than their actual age - but perhaps this was the way of childhood friends who had as special a bond as these two shared. The fox hoisted himself up and started to trot off to his room, his intention to change into more leisurely clothes for the rest of the night. Oh, but that sly cat wasn't about to let him get away with that!

Mitch leaped from the couch and landed on the foxes back, forcing them both to the ground as he pulled the foxes arms behind him and held them under his knee, then his paws went to roaming quickly around his sides through the fur and tripping all those little tickling landmines. Toby burst into laughter and was soon wriggling under the kitten's assault. "Who's the wimp now," beamed the feline on top of him. With a large effort on his part, Toby jerked his body and sent the feline through the air and across the carpet, but only moments passed before the fox was on top of him yet again. "Still you, pussycat." He gave a playful nip at the kitten's nose before he got up and trotted off to his room with a gleeful grin.

After the two of them had slipped into their clothes for the evening, they eventually returned to the living room. Toby clicked the remote with his foot, turning it on with ease as the kitten slowly entered the room. Toby had to pull his eyes away from the other male, a light blush to his cheeks. Mitch was now wearing a larger white T-shirt, big enough to sleep comfortably in. On his lower half, a pair of flannel pajama bottoms. While very plain, it was enough to send a tingle down the fox's spine. He was wearing similar, though his attire was a matching silk pajama top and bottom.

"Hey there, fox." The kitten flopped onto the couch and crossed his legs on top of the coffee table, relaxing against the cushion behind him and offering his friend a warm smile before he gazed to the television and enjoyed the shows that flicked across the screen as Toby changed the channel every so often. There was the most uncomfortable silence between them. Rather, it was uncomfortable for Toby. He had butterflies swimming around in his tummy. He knew that this weekend was his chance to clean out the cobwebs in his mind. If not now, he would ruin his only chance in months. First, he would try the subtle approach.

"Hey, Mitch - can I ask ya something?" The kitten turned his head away from the commercial and tilted his head curiously. "Sure, what's up?" The fox turned to smile at the boy, then click off the television; just another distraction. "Um, you know that kid in class that always wearing the tight clothes? The one people always talk about?" The kitten stared off at the dead television and nodded softly. "You mean... the gay one?" Toby cringed and nodded quietly, clearing his throat a bit in nervous habit. "Yeah, that one..." The fox was silent for a few seconds, and then returned to the task at hand. "Uh... w-what do you think about him? I mean, people like him?" He was obviously very nervous about his confessions.

Mitch shook his head softly and gave a soft shrug of his shoulders. "He's okay... I kinda feel bad for him sometimes... you know, kids are so cruel to... p-people like that..." The fox raised a brow gently, somewhat surprised by both the kitten's response and the way he reacted when he spoke. Perhaps he was just nervous talking about sexuality. Toby leaned back against the couch and stared up at the white ceiling in thought, "So... it doesn't bother you?" Mitch slowly looked over, beginning to grow curious as to why Toby was talking about it all of a sudden. "No... should it?"

The two of them slowly made their way back to normal conversation - just idle chit-chat to pass the time. Eventually, the two of them were laughing and joking again. "Come on," Toby beckoned with a gesture of his paw. "Let's grab something to eat, and then we can play some games 'til we get tired." The kitten's ears perked and he smiled widely. "Sounds great!"

After fighting over the last pizza roll, the two of them downed their plastic cups full of soda and raced to the fox's bedroom. Upon the floor lied a videogame console and a pile of tangled wires, two controllers and a stack of cases for various games. "Start it up for me, I'll be right back," stated the fox, and soon he was creeping out of the bedroom and into the hall. He was panting heavily, nervously as he pressed himself to the wall outside his bedroom and chewed on his lower lip. "A-actually... I need some help in the kitchen. Forget about it. Can you come help me with these dishes," he yelled out, faking himself being rooms away.

The sounds of moving in the room followed, and just as the kitten raced through the doorway, a pair of paws grabbed his shoulders and whipped him around. The fox pushed him firmly against the wall and stared him the eyes with a sly smile. The kitten gasped at first, but then assumed it was another joke and laughed happily. "You scared me, Toby. Come on, let go." He squirmed a bit, but the fox remained where he was. "Mitch... I have to tell you something..." Mitch tilted his head, slightly concerned though somewhat frightened that Toby still had him pinned to the wall. "What's wrong?"

Toby stood there for nearly twenty seconds before he finally managed to say something. "Mitch... I..." The kitten merely watched him in mingled curiosity and concern - still rather uneasy being pressed to the wall and so close to the warm body of his closest friend. Toby just couldn't seem to find his voice. "I love you," he finally blurted out when his heart took over finally. "I love you, Mitch... and I always have. I know you may not like it... and... you might even hate me now. But... it's the truth, and I just want you to finally know..." The kitten stood there in silence, breathing in the sweet scent of his oldest companion with mouth slightly agape.

"... huh?" Feline stood there; body trembling, lips moist, eyes glistening in the light shown off by the ceiling fan. Mitch had always considered Toby far more than just a friend. He had always looked up to the fox as an idol, someone he could be friends with for a lifetime. Lately he had been admiring the fox as more than a friend should. Watching the way his rear swayed when he walked, admiring that full-bodied tail that wafted about with a mind of its own, and those toned muscles beneath his fur. Needless to say that Mitch was attracted to Toby, and his current position wasn't helping the matter that he was being confessed to of a secret love.

"T-toby... I... don't hate you." Mitch looked down at his feet shyly, a blush brushing across his striped cheeks of various shades. With those words, the fox's ears perked and tail swished faintly behind him. "Y-you said that you loved me...," the kitten spoke softly in a shaken and nervous voice. "Toby... do you... really love me?" He slowly looked up to the fox, tears staining the sides of his face and streaming down his cheeks slowly - a hopeful smile clinging weakly to his lips. The fox peered down upon the sight, leaned over and kissed the tears from the boy's fur silently. As he kissed each drop of moisture away, Mitch's body trembled softly. Finally, a final kiss was deposited upon the kitten's warm, pink lips. The both of them trembled, the taller fox leaning closer to his childhood friend while the both of them enjoyed the warmth of their meshed muzzles.

Reluctantly, the fox pulled away and gazed through hazy golden eyes upon his friend, both of their eyes halfway lidded. "Y-yes, Mitch... I really do..." The two of them stared into each other's eyes in silence. The tears streamed down the kitten's cheeks once again, an identical smile on both of their muzzles. "Toby... I... l-love you too," he managed in a shaky voice, but his smile only grew and the tears fell even faster. The fox finally removed his paws from the wall and released the boy, only to wrap his warm arms about his childhood friend and embrace him snugly. "Y-you don't know... how happy it makes me to hear those words... t-to finally hear those words coming from your beautiful mouth..." Toby closed his eyes tightly and held onto the kitten, which held on warmly in return. The two of them stood their in each other's arms, embraced by the warm light of the overhead lights. Slowly, the fox managed the kitten into his arms, Mitch's legs around his waist as he pressed soft pecks at the feline's neck. "Let me... s-show you just how much... I really love you." Without a sound or a struggle, Toby carried his beloved friend into his room and kicked the door shut with his foot.
