Chapter Seven
The dark orange, thin fur boxer hopped off the porch and headed over towards their tent. Clem felt bad for the husky. He was Togo's closest friend after all and the two dogs had joined the house together roughly at the same time. They even shared a room.
So Clem wasn't shocked to smell Togo's finish. Same room as the husky, Clem ended up smelling the husky's jerk off nearly every day. Things seemed to have died down when Charles came around, leaving a lot of Clem's shirts far less sticky. And now he learned why; Togo was getting plenty of release with his new human friend.
It was like walking into a wall, the stench of their passionate love making nearly knocking the boxer over as he walked right into it. His nostrils flared and Clem stopped in his tracks as it all hit him. The sensitive boxer's nose could smell every dirty deed they had done and even after Togo had cleaned up most the mess, could tell it had been far messier than a sticky pair of briefs.
On one hand the boxer tail was wagging, a part of him wanting to just crawl in and join them. The other half of him knew that'd be uncalled for and he rather not get into a fight with Togo again on the subject. He was one of the few who knew how jealous the husky could be.
The scent of the human made Clem pause though. It was knew. He was far too familiar with Togo. And that of the other dogs. This guy though made his stubby tail wag fiercely. Something knew, interesting and from the stories he heard from Togo, wasn't opposed to the boxer rough kind of play.
Clem ended up swallowing, semi erect already as he hit the side of the tent with a closed fist. “Breakfast you horny bastards!” And he stomped away, trying to calm his ever growing bone.
Canines weren't opposed to going naked ever. It was common knowledge. The fur made wearing most clothing uncomfortable and during the summer like this, they'd get too hot and could suffer from heat stroke. The one thing canines also knew was that poking out of the your sheath was in fact indecent, even around other dogs. The sheath was fine. Anything else exposed was not, even just the tip. Some breeds couldn't even walk around naked because of it.
And so when Clem headed inside, he used both hands to cover himself as he headed back into the kitchen to splash cold water on himself.
“They made up.” Clem only grumbled to Reese. The wolf had lounged out on the whole sofa bed now and was watching the tv upside down. The only response the wolf gave was a twitch of one ear that was lost on the boxer.
Togo was laughing as he hugged Charles close, the man flushing brightly at being caught like this.
“I forgot.” Charles tried to explain to the husky who just nuzzled at his bare chest, nipping at it lightly.
“Forgot the other dozen dogs here?” The husky teased. “We should probably bathe before going back in.” And Togo got up just enough to slide an arm under Charles legs, one behind his back and with a grunt Togo lifted him up.
“You ok?” Charles asked, blushing even more as he was carried out of the tent and towards the lake.
“Perfectly. Fine.” Togo just grunted, walking a bit faster.
“I can walk.” Charles tapped on his shoulder, bowing his head. “I understand. I'm too fat.”
“You're fine.” Togo flexed, gritting his teeth and picked up his pace. “Barely weigh. A thing.” The husky was panting as he walked past the benches next to the shore and out over the docks.
“We all get it.” Charles rolled his eyes. “You are my hero.”
“Ok. Good.” Togo finished stopping at the end of the docks. “So long as you understand.”
“Wait, Togo.” Charles yelped as he was tossed into the lake butt naked. Togo cannon balled in right behind him. “Such an ass.” Charles splashed the dog as he surfaced.
“I do have a sweet ass.” Togo growled back playfully splashing him. Charles made sure not to point out that the large husky was just doggie paddling to stay afloat.
“Just bite-able.” Charles agreed snapping his teeth and growling back at the dog. Togo ears splayed out at that before he giggled.
“Oh. I like the sound of that.” The husky doggie paddled around the man as Charles swam back over to the dock.
“I'm starving though.” Charles began to climb up onto the dock, stopping half way as Togo snagged one of his legs. “Don't you dare.”
“I'm a good boy.” Togo grinned wickedly, scooting closer and nosing at Charles's rear end and giving his whole crack a slurping lick. “You missed a spot.” The husky gave him a wink.
Charles waited a moment. “You're still not letting go.” The man asked suspiciously.
“Well.” Togo shrugged a shoulder before clamping down and biting Charles ass hard enough to leave teeth marks.
The man jumped with a startled yelp and ended up falling backwards onto the husky and thus back into the lake.
From here things only got worse as the two both equally tried to get out while also trying to keep the other one in.
“Last one there gets the burnt bacon.” Togo had begun. One of his legs were snagged and Charles pushed against the dock with both his own to force the stronger husky to fall back in.
Charles tried to take advantage of it but didn't even get both hands on the dock before the husky wrapped his arms around his waist and dove down into the water, dragging Charles with him.
The soaking wet husky popped up to catch his breath, grinning in victory. And then whining in defeat as his own ass, underwater, was bit. Charles got a mouth full of fur and little ass as he let go and swam up for breath.
“This is why I don't lick you.” Charles explained as he took several strands of black fur out of his mouth.
“Didn't stop you earlier.” Togo grinned back as the husky turned himself around to press his naked self against his human.
“That was then. This is now.” Charles rolled his eyes once more. Togo's crass humor made him do that a lot.
Togo got up on the dock, helping Charles up with a hand. The husky was soaking wet and it only showed just how muscular he really was. Togo thick fur hid his body most the time but now the damp fur outlined every curve of him. His arms and legs, that tight ass and strong shoulders. Charles had to take a moment to marvel at him.
“Beat you getting out.” Togo ruined the moment as he nudged the man. Boasting about his victory. And Charles pushed him back into the water.
“The deal was who got too breakfast first.” Charles added waving back as he ran towards the cabin. “I'll save you a pancake maybe.”
Togo got up, waited to make sure Charles was out of sight and then shook himself dry. He wouldn't dare have done it in front of the man, knowing Charles would hold it against him. Togo jogged back towards the cabin, spying Charles coming out of their tent with a clean pair of underwear on. The husky only wagged his tail, noting that it was one of his.
Togo spent a great deal of time researching humans. Mostly just how to interact. There was a reason why most didn't even try inter-species relationships. There were so many little things you'd miss if you weren't a canine or a feline, let alone if you were a bird or reptile and dating one of the others. Customs, social etiquette and ques. Minor little things one doesn't even think about until it's too late.
They add up quickly and it was one reason why Togo kept things simple. No names. Just a good fuck behind a bar or in the bathroom. Bring someone home and kick them out even before the sun got up. Because trying anything real actually took work and Togo had thought it just wasn't worth it.
His curled up tail was wagging lazily as he headed up the porch steps, pulling on the waistband of the shorts he had snagged from the tent. Togo knew Charles liked to be clothed and would try it out for a little while for his sake. Togo had changed a lot around the man. Things were just easier to do so. To be himself. It wasn't work. Things could be tough at times but Togo never thought of it as a bother or burden.
“Saved you a seat.” Charles waved from the table. Several of the others had woken up and had joined them. The man was still dripping with from the lake. He patted the spot next to him and Togo hopped over the side couch to join him.
Togo's plate was nearly empty but Charles had gotten twice the normal amount and gladly shared with the husky.
“It's good.” Charles said taking a bite. Togo tried to stop him but it was lost on the man. The husky looked over at Reese and figured it was ok and tried to take a bite himself. The wolf growled at him though as they all waited for Clem to join them from the kitchen.
“What?” Charles whispered to Togo as he put his fork down. Drinks were poured into bowl shaped cups and passed around. Charles got a normal tall glass though.
Togo didn't explain and the other dogs waited for the alpha to eat first before finally digging in.
The whole cabin erupted into noise as everyone began talking about what they were going to do today, reach over one another to grab extra pieces of toast or eggs. Clem had taken a seat on the other side of Charles and gave him a nudge.
“Theirs a hiking trail not too far from here.” The boxer just talked around a large bite of butter jam toast.
“The one with the view, right?” Togo asked, picking at Charles plate and ignoring the little he had on his own. Last one to the table always got the less than the others.
“Yeah. Can look over the whole area.” Clem just nodded, lapping at the milk in his bowl cup before growling. The golden retriever had grabbed the last piece of bacon and the two dogs began fighting over it.
“Sounds nice.” Charles just offered watching the two play tug of war with the bacon only for the crispy piece to break in half. This only annoyed them further and they fought for the other ones piece ignoring their own. “And quiet.” He added with a chuckle as the table was bumped.
The other dogs didn't even seem to notice as they grabbed their drinks so they wouldn't spill. Just going on with what they had been talking about before.
Charles grew up in a very strict home where you got a good whoopin if you didn't use the proper silverware for each thing. From a soup spoon to a salad fork. The home was quiet and no one talked during dinner.
This was a sight to see.
“We're heading back early. Got to work.” The blue heeler that drove was explaining. “Tosh called in. Again, of course.”
“He's the religious dude right.” One of the other pointed out.
The blue heeler only rolled his eyes at that. “Only when it's convenient.”
Reese just nodded. The wolf was the only one out of the lot, other than Charles, who was eating with some decency. He carefully opened only the end of his snout to bite at the toast. Using a fork for the eggs and even had a glass like Charles did.
Charles was going to ask when one of the wolf's black pointed ears lifted up towards the door.
“Get in the back.” Reese ordered suddenly making the other dogs stop. “Togo, Brigsby with me.” And with that the other ended up heading back into the cabin.
Charles didn't get a chance to ask as there was a sudden knock on the open door. The man hadn't even seen, let alone heard, anyone come up but the wolf had.
Reese disappeared down the hallway as Brigsby went to greet whoever it was.
“What can I do for ya today?” The golden retriever just asked with that award winning smile his breed was known for. He was such a happy go lucky, charismatic guy that it was hard to get mad at him.
“Noise complaint.” The person outside just said. Charles got up as Togo motioned for him to go out the back.
A park ranger ended up stepping inside the door, looked the place over and stopped as he saw Charles.
“Hey.” He called out, lifting up his hat. “You ok? Your not hurt are you?”
Charles was baffled as to what the guy was talking about and looked to Togo for help.
“What can I do for you, John.” Reese reappeared a second later. The wolf stepped out in what looked to be a rather expensive business suit. Reese looked odd in it as if his large bulk just didn't belong in the tight cloths.
“Reese.” John, the ranger, said with a frown looking at him. “Why's a human here.”
“Because he's a friend of the family.” Reese just explained in that low growl, barely showing his teeth as he talked. “Togo invited him and I thought it'd be nice to have more company.”
John just frowned at that, looking at Charles long and hard as if waiting for him to break down and tell him the truth. Charles was still confused.
“There was a noise complaint.” John just began.
“Isn't there always?” Reese just answered as if waiting for him to say that. Charles hadn't seen another neighbor around here, let alone a cabin.
“Said you guys were shooting off fireworks. Shooting guns.” The ranger just went on. He was trying to match Reese height but barely came up to the wolf's shoulders. Reese was standing tall, not slouching as he normally did.
“Do you smell gunpowder?” Reese just asked Togo. The husky shook his head. “Fireworks?” He asked Brigsby. The golden retriever was still smiling the whole time and shook his head, tongue flopping around and sending drool everywhere. “It appears you have the wrong cabin, again.” Reese added the last part with a deep glare.
The look made Charles blood freeze and his breath caught in his throat, if only for a second.
John didn't even seem to flinch as if waiting, wanting the wolf to make a move.
Reese walked over to the counter and pulled out a few things from the cupboard. “We have every right to be here.” He just said waving the papers around. “We've been over this before, John.”
“Yes we have. And you're still here.” The man just said without even trying to hide his disdain for the wolf.
Reese didn't reply to that and just looked at him.
“There are tents outside.” John just started, trying to bring something up. There was another ranger in the doorway and Charles could make out a truck outside.
“Togo and Charles slept on the couch.” Reese just tilted his head to one side, crossing his arms as if asking for him to show proof otherwise. The wolf knew the man couldn't smell such things. It wasn't an issue anyways. It was just the ranger fishing for any excuse to kick them out of here or to call the cops, again, on them.
“And the lake?” John glared back.
“Go ahead,” Reese waved him off. “Go look. There isn't a single beer can or bottle around there. We stayed within the marked boundaries and no one left my sight the entire time.” Reese just snorted, a smug look washing over his face. The wolf had done this before. He had planned for it to happen again and was just waiting for them to fold.
“And if I go there now?” John asked with his own smug look.
“Togo and I were just there.” Charles finally spoke up, taking a step forward. “It was perfectly clean. We made sure before coming in for breakfast.” He added, looking at the husky. He figured it'd be better not to explain why they had really been down there.
Reese just gave him a nod and looked back at the ranger. “Why don't you go shoot another deer, John.” The wolf added. That seemed to really tick the ranger off though Charles couldn't figure as to why.
A moment passed with the two just glaring at each other before the ranger faltered. John didn't want this to get into a legal issue, again.
“Just be gone before tonight.” John pointed at the wolf. Charles waited for Reese to take it off but the wolf didn't even show that he noticed the finger wagging in his face. “And keep your dogs leashed.” The man just added, walking out. He shouted at the other ranger and there was a heated conversation before they drove off.
“So… the fuck was that about?” Charles just asked Togo as Reese pulled the suit off.
“Neighbors.” Togo just shrugged and left it at that.
“Togo.” Charles asked, touching the husky's wrist with his hand. “I didn't get you guy in trouble did I?”
Togo snorted at that and shook his head. “Other campers see us? They call the cops. Cops can't do much without some reason at the very least. They call the rangers who try and figure something out to kick us out. Every time we come out here.” Togo said slowly at the end, shaking his head and shrugging it off.
“There was a shooting a couple months back. A deer, an anthro one, was shot. Hunter mistook him for a, well, buck. Huge issue. Massive lawsuits were filed and in the end? Nothing came from it.” Togo shook his head. “Reese's brother was his lawyer. That fucker,” Togo waved at where the ranger had been. “Was the bastard who pulled the trigger. Wasn't charged with shit.”
“And ever since he's had it out for you guys.” Charles put two and two together, shaking his head. “Damn. Can't just go elsewhere. This is Brigsby's cabin.”
Togo just nodded. “Now you see the issue. Last month there was a campfire issue that they tried to pin on us.”
Charles just took a seat as well with a bowed head. There were so many things running through his head he wasn't sure what to say or do. If there was anything he could possibly do.
“We'll be heading out here soon.” Togo just shrugged, sighing and scratching the back of his neck.
“Thought we had until tonight.” Charles dared to ask but didn't press the issue when Togo just looked at him with those big, sorrowful eyes. The man just scooted closer to the husky and gave him a hug and let Togo nuzzle the side of his face and neck.
It wasn't long before they were packing up and heading out. Jasper was stuck watching the cabin; the big sheep dog waving them off from the porch as they left. Charles could understand a bit why Jasper had to stay behind. If no one was here, who knows what would happen.
Charles was dropped off. Hugs were exchanged and little was said on what had happened.
“Talk with ya later.” Togo just said. The husky leaned in to nuzzle just the side of his face and the car full of dogs drove off as Charles walked towards the house in a slow, leisure pace not rushing to get home. He was still lost in thought as he headed in, dropping his bag off to the side and going to the bathroom to clean up. It was almost a ritual going in, locking the door and looking himself over so there wasn't evidence of what he'd been up too. Most days he'd take a shower as well, full change of cloths.
A part of him felt guilty about it all. What he was doing. Another part of him was excited by it. The thrill of it made him feel ten years younger. The forbidden taboo of it all. Charles hadn't ever been arrested, let alone anything like this! He'd always been a boy scout, playing things safe without ever being risky or illegal. He was the designated driver. The one people would just let go when his friends were caught doing something. No one ever had a problem with him because he made sure to never rub anyone the wrong way.
Things have been changing though ever since he met Togo.
“Marcy?” Charles called as he got out of the shower, still using a towel to dry his wet hair.
“Oh, no.” She said coming in from the other room. She was a bit flushed in the face, had her hair down and was in her work out cloths. “You weren't suppose to get home so early.”
For a second Charles thought she too was seeing someone on the side. There was a part of him that hoped that was in fact the case as he was beginning to get prepared to tell her. Just tell her they needed to slow down, take time.
“Ok. It's not finished yet though, keep in mind.” Marcy went on, grabbing his hand and pulling him towards the side room. The room that belonged to him. “I spent all day yesterday and was going to finish up before you got home today.” She smiled as she showed it off.
The side room had been filled with boxes and things belonging to him. Everything that he owned was crammed into this one room. And now it looked like that had been done on purpose.
Shelves lined the walls with his awards and collectables on them. There was a bookcase with his albums and books neatly stacked up on their own shelves. Posters were mixed into everything. Old promotional Beatles ones like Abby road. The small vintage jukebox had been set up, turned on and one of his records playing in it. The closet was filled with his cloths. Hung up neatly, dry cleaned and ironed.
“Well. What do you think?” Marcy smiled showing off all the work she had done. “It's just my way to say, sorry. For the past week. I know it's been very hard for you and well, what do you think?”
Her voice was drowned out as Charles face nearly fell as he looked around at everything. His mind went blank from it all and everything he had been practicing in the shower, all the things he wanted to say faded away.
“Well?” She asked, worried now.
“I love it.” Charles said honestly and they hugged.
“I'm glad!” Marcy gave his cheek a kiss. “I'm going to take a shower then while you get everything how you like it. I know you.” She teased heading out of the room and leaving Charles with his thoughts on it all.
The man didn't leave the room for some time. He was just going over everything, trying to figure things out. A dark part of him knew how easy it would be just to stay here and live this kind of life. Without having to worry about what others thought of him, of them, together. Not to worry about being discriminated against or bastards trying to pick fights with them just because. Hoe easy life would be if he just stopped this all and just…
Charles wanted this life. He liked it. The idea of family. Of home. The good old American dream.
Yet, as Marcy came in for dinner Charles just thought the whole time as they sat on the couch and watched her recorded shows; how nice it would be if he had this all, with Togo.
That life wasn't something that could just happen though. Things would be so much tougher to achieve. These thoughts plagued him as they cleaned up from it all, getting ready for bed.
Maybe he should just call it off. Just accept the hand he'd been dealt and live the rest of his life planned out, known and safe. Nothing surprising or to worry about.
His phone buzzed and he sat up in bed to look at it. It was late at night, he worked in the morning and he was already in his pajamas as he answered it.
“Hey.” It read. “Could I get a lift?”
“Sure.” Charles just said already slipping his shoes on. “That was Togo. Car problems. I'll be back late.” Charles just told Marcy as he put his coat on.
She had a sour look on her face but admitted defeat. “Be careful.” She just said going back to sleep.
“What do you mean your in prison?” Charles just asked loudly stepping outside. Togo was still on the phone as slipped a key into his car door. “Togo. Togo!” Charles just rolled his eyes as he turned his car on. “Are you drunk? Ok, I'll be there shortly.”
And with that hung up and took off. At least things weren't boring.
The husky was waiting in the lobby and his whole face perked up as he saw Charles walk in. Both his ears lifting high, his curly tail wagging and those black lips tugging his whole snout up in a smile. Togo was cuffed to the chair and nearly fell over as he tried to get up.
Charles gave him a way and headed to the counter.
“What are the charges for the idiot.” He asked the woman behind it, pointing out the husky.
“Drunk and disorderly conduct.” She said without even looking up from her magazine. Just another night for her clearly.
That was the universal saying for someone got drunk as fuck and ended up being a dumbass because of it.
“Disturbing the peace again?” Charles asked, taking a seat next to the husky while the woman behind the counter filled out the paper work. Charles didn't want it to be on his record but didn't have the cash to just pay the fine.
“Charles!” Togo yipped as if only now seeing him and tried to give him a hug, forgetting his other hand was cuffed. The husky nearly fell over again. “Buddy! Pal! Friend!” The husky hiccuped. Charles could smell the booze on his breath giving a whole new meaning to booze hound.
“What did you do?” Charles ended up chuckling despite himself as he used the corner of his jacket to wipe clean the dog's mouth.
“Well we went out after you left me.” Togo just began slowly, furrowing his brow as he tried a little too hard to recall. “And we went to a place. That was near that one place. And we drank.”
“I can see that.” Charles just said, helping Togo to his feet as he was uncuffed. The officer gave him back the stuff they had found on Togo. Charles was just glad the husky hadn't been carrying his stash on him this time. “Thank you.” He added to the officer who just ignored the both.
“Then like there was this cat!” Togo rested his full weight against him as he staggered. “And the golden dog.”
“Brigsby.” Charles clarified.
“That bastard thought it'd be funny to piss him off.” Togo just frowned now.
Charles took a moment on that. “You didn't pee on a cat did you?”
“He started it!” Togo said loudly in his defense as they made their way out. Charles had to slowly guide the husky down the steps. He was honestly surprised they had let him out, even with the hefty fine. The small police station just couldn't hold a dog with as much gusto as Togo he figured.
“How did he start it?” Charles dared to ask as he strapped the dog into the passenger seat.
“You're so pretty.” Togo breathed against him, looking at him dreamily. Then burped and ruined any moment that could've possibly happened. “I want to just pet your face.”
“I know.” Charles just said with another roll of his eyes and went around. The husky actually whined when he closed the door, separating the two. Then had forgotten about it as his whole face lit up again.
“Charles!” He said loudly with his arms up in the air, as if seeing him for the first time. “You should've come out with us!”
“Yeah. That would have ended well.” Charles snorted as he locked the doors and rolled up the windows. “Don't hurl in here.” He warned the husky.
Togo just grinned widely, crossing his heart and then hiccuped again.
“Do you have anything to say?” Charles just asked after the husky finally pulled his head in from the window. It had been a fight to keep Togo from rolling down the window and sticking his whole upper body outside.
Togo thought on that, sitting back down. “I taste marshmallows.”
“Ok then.” Charles regretted asking.
The drive was slow and Togo mostly rested back, every now kicking a leg and fidgeting as he snored loudly. It took Charles a bit to get the dog to wake up, to get out of his car and up to the front porch of the dog's house.
Charles ended up knocking on the door loudly. Every time he tried to get the keys out of Togo's pocket, the husky would giggle and squirm away. Then the husky thought it would be funny to hide them in his pants; when Charles tried to stop him the husky panicked and threw them into the yard. Charles was too tired to both try to keep Togo from sneaking off and to look for them and ended up just fearing the wrath of Reese as he knocked again.
Several door locks clicked unlocked and the door opened on a chain lock. The wolf looked down at him, unamused. Then at Togo. Reese shook his head and closed the door to remove the final lock.
“I'll send her a care package in the morning.” Reese grumbled to himself. Charles could only assume he meant the woman at the police station. The wolf didn't seem surprised he showed up at his door in his pajamas with a drunk husky holding onto him for support.
Reese didn't say anything else as he locked back up and headed back to his room. It was a Sunday night. Normal people worked in the morning, something Togo didn't seem to get the memo on.
Togo was giggling the whole time, trying to keep quiet as the walked down to his room at the far end of the hall.
“There. Bed. Sleep.” Charles ordered after fighting the husky with trying to take his pants off. They still were on half way when Charles called it good enough and left them.
“Hello bed, I am Togo.” The husky just murred, hugging his pillow and wagging his butt in the air. “Conqueror of men. Slayer of the feral cat. And award winning lover.” The husky just went on as he began chewing on his pillow.
“Right. You seem to be… normal.” Charles yawned and headed for the door.
There was a loud whine from behind him and the man dragged a hand over his face as he looked back.
“A-aren't you staying?” Togo hiccuped once more, pouting with those giant puppy dog eyes. It looked like Charles had been abusing the poor canine.
“I work in the morning.” Charles tried to explain but stopped. Trying to explain logic to a drunk was like trying to explain to a child why he needed to go to bed. It was a losing battle.
Togo bottom lip quivered out as he just looked at him with tear filled eyes.
“Got to be fucking kididng me.” Charles muttered as he walked back over, tossed his coat to the side and laid next to Togo. The husky hugged him tightly, pressing his bulk down against the man and snuggling his chest.
“Just until I catch the Zs.” Togo muttered as his tail wagged, his fingers holding Charles's shirt tightly and his legs tangled up with the mans.
“Right.” Charles just gave up and laid back with an arm over his eyes. He gave up a good nights sleep for this.
“Charles.” Togo just murmurred his name, nuzzling against him roughly with his head and took a slow deep breath of his shirt. The husky wiggled and wormed his snout in between the buttons on Charles pajamas and licked at his pair skin with that broad, grooved tongue.
Charles frowned at that as he looked down at the pathetic dog. He gave in and scratched behind his ears, resting back and thinking everything over. One day with Togo felt like a month.
Then the husky began snoring loudly again.
If only life could just be so simple.
