Discovering a new friend or potential foe?
(Zoroark's POV)
Relaxing was the word I'd use to describe the feeling of sleeping outdoors after such a long time. The peaceful way the wind and trees shook were helpful to sleep to. Granted, I was in a sleeping bag provided by a human, but still!
I yawned which sounded more like an angered growl. The crack of dawn had arose, shining down on everyone. The nearby trees added shade to keep us cool. Several leaves floated down, landing around us. One even landed on my snout which I shook off.
My vision was still slightly blurred. I rubbed my eyes so I wouldn't walk into a tree later. I was actually surprised to see what was nearby. Lucario snuggled up behind Junior, inside the hybrid's sleeping bag. His blue furred paws were wrapped around his silver fur. His muzzle rested on his shoulder. My mind instantly wandered. Di_d they fuck in the middle of the night?_ I thought curiously. No.. he wouldn't do that especially since I know he deeply loves Typhlosion. So… why is Lucario holding him? Guess action took over body since I slightly shook the jackal. His ears perked up and groggily opened his eyes.
“What?" He grumbled, letting our trainer out of his embrace to rub his eyes.
“You do know that you were cuddling Junior, right?" My inquiry got through to the barely awake canine. His ears perked, he abruptly got up and backed away from the hybrid with his paws slightly risen.
“I-I wasn't doing anything! I swear!" He stated. I rolled my eyes at that. I knew there had to be a reason for him holding our trainer in his arms otherwise he wouldn't just hold onto him.
“Lies. Now why were you holding him? Are you into males?"
“I'm not! T-Trust me it's.. well…" Lucario blushed underneath his fur. I couldn't help but laugh, making him blush even more.
“Sh-Shut up! It's not funny!" Lucario grumbled. He began fidgeting shyly. “It was.. for comfort. I-I was scared." His ears flattened. I suddenly felt bad for laughing.
“Of what? You heard something from inside the woods?" He shook his head which really confused me. “Then what was it pal?" The jackal stared off into the distance, whimpering. He obviously didn't want to talk about it so I decided to stop the subject there.
I placed my paw on his head and smiled. “It's fine buddy. I'll just forget that this happened. Wouldn't want Typhlosion getting jealous huh?" I playfully elbowed the canine, who looked at me with confusion. Realization finally hit me that Junior and his lover still haven't told the others.
“What do you mean?" He inquired. I stood there for a minute debating on whether or not to tell him. Sure I want the two to tell the rest of the team that they're mates, but I was completely against the idea of telling Lucario without their consent. Then again, Junior probably wasn't going to tell anybody else ever. I sighed, deciding not to spoil the fun reaction yet. And just on time too since I heard two specific yawns. Lucario looked behind him as his tail wagged.
“Wakie Wakie sleepy head!" He happily greeted the awoken half wolf. He went on one knee and hugged the hybrid tight. Junior even giggled against his embrace. A soft growl emitted behind me. Typhlosion must've felt jealous seeing his friend hug his mate. Especially due to the fact Lucario knew Junior almost as long as he did. His flame collar even flickered on for a second.
I glanced at the jealous type and chuckled. He looked away grumbling before an order from our trainer got everybody's attention.
“Alright, it's time to head out. Is everybody well rested? Because I can put you in your ball to nap if any of you need it." All of us shook our heads, eager to continue exploring the Kalos region. Once everybody was done packing things up, we continued toward Geosenge. Axel glanced at us Mons before directing his attention to the disguised wolf.
“I kinda noticed this but do you always make your Pokemon follow you? Don't they just wanna rest sometimes?" Typhlosion, Lucario and I glanced at the uninformed boy. We weren't lazy and as far as I knew, each of us loved walking with our trainer.
“I don't force them Axel.. if anything they force me to let them out!" Junior exclaimed. Lucario opened his mouth to testify but thought for a second then shrugged. Typhlosion smirked at his mate. Junior noticed his smirk, his cheeks became a light pinkish. “Don't look at me like that Typhlosion!" He quietly commanded. The badger only responded with a silly chuckle.
“Anyways, what drove your curiosity Axel?" The canine inquired. The young human stayed silent for awhile, staring at the ground. It wasn't until four-ish minutes of walking he decided to speak up.
“Just was wondering if it's good for your Pokemon.. cause I plan on asking my team if they wanna walk with us too." That caused Junior to stop in his tracks before smiling at the young trainer. Obviously I knew where this was going to go so I leaned against a tree to watch. Wouldn't want aching feet now would I?
Junior beamed brightly. “How about I ask them? Wouldn't want to exclude any potential friends!" His positive attitude helped sway the boy's decision. It took him awhile to respond. Probably due to the fact his Tyranitar could've killed him and his Rhyperior hates us. Nonetheless, Axel got out his team's Pokeballs. All… 3 of them? Oddly enough, he sighed and put the third ball away.
The blonde called out his team and not even a second later, Rhyperior growled at us.
“You fools again? I thought we left you behind!" Rhyperior stated. I could tell Typhlosion wanted to fight him, but a glance from his lover diminished his flame collar. A deep chuckle roared from behind him. It was Tyranitar.
“Don't mind him guys. He doesn't warm up to others that fast. In fact, it took him a year to even talk to me!" His cheerful tone baffled me. For the only time we met him, I would've thought Tyranitar was like Rhyperior, not a nice guy. Never judge a Mon by their appearance. I mentally noted.
Both Axel and Junior studied the Armor Pokemon. He tilted his head against the trainers' gazes.
“What's wrong?" He asked sweetly. Tyranitar must've not remembered what happened back at Santalune Forest. How odd. Junior glanced at Lucario, who just shrugged.
“Nothing." Junior began. “Axel wanted me to ask you guys if you wanted to walk beside him in between towns and routes." Tyranitar smiled and nodded his head.
“Of course! I need a little exercise anyways so can I take the first shift Rhyperior?"
“Whatever, go nuts." He oddly agreed/growled. Rhyperior rudely snatched his Pokeball from Axel's hand and pressed the button to be reabsorbed into it. He growled again before he was completely absorbed. Rude as always.
“Like I said, don't mind him. Anyways, nice to meet you all! Are you… uh.." Tyranitar looked at Junior, analyzing him. He got closer to him slowly. Every step made the ground shake. The Rock/Dark type towered over the half wolf. Before Junior can react, the dual type sniffed our trainer which triggered Typhlosion.
“Hey! What makes you think you can smell our trainer like that?!" Our comrade growled. His flame collar instantly ignited. Tyranitar backed away with his arms raised up.
“Hey, no need to get angry. He just smelled like a Pokemon, so I got curious…" The Mon stated. Tyranitar looked over at me, head tilting. “Why're you alone over there? Are you an introvert?" His question made my ears perk. Usually I tried to stay out of conversations, not that I didn't dislike the occasional chat. But him trying to initiate conversation with me made me smile so I gave him the time of day.
“Might be, why are you so curious?" I asked. He shrugged. Junior chuckled.
“Curious one isn't he?"
“He is.. which confuses me as to what happened before.." Axel placed his hand on his chin, thinking. Recollecting the moment, I did find it quite odd. Why would he try to hurt Axel? I thought inquisitively. Not soon after, he was interrupted by his Pokemon.
“Axel?" He began. “Can we start the walk? I'm getting bored." The human stared at him before shrugging. An I-don't-understand-you look painted on his face. I felt bad for the kid, not being able to communicate with Pokemon. Luckily, Junior understood him and gestured toward the trail to avoid Axel's awkward guess. He lead the group with Typhlosion walking by his side. Oddly enough, Tyranitar kept his gaze on him. I chuckled. Rocky should already know he's a half wolf. Probably curious as to why he's a canine. Hopefully he finds out because I'm just as curious as he.
(Lucario's POV)
To be blunt, I was surprised Tyranitar was nice. I actually expected something akin to rude and aggressive. Thankfully he wasn't any of those two. In fact, the first time seeing his actual self was fun. It was even more fun seeing his reactions to the things he missed since that forest.
He beamed brightly. “Wow! Did that really happen?" He asked at the fact of us finding that small floating pink feline-like pokemon. I nodded my head as the other two continued the stories. Typhlosion cringed a little whenever we mentioned the assassin fight. Tyranitar quickly noticed this.
“What's wrong?" He inquired. Typhlosion shook his head, ears perked up.
“It's nothing. Don't.. Don't worry about it, just continue telling him about it Lucario." I nodded. I knew he wouldn't want to explain in detail his worries about Junior's safety. Plus, I read his mind to find out he really did want me to keep the conversation going.
“So, during the assassin battle, we fought as hard as we could but," I glanced at Typhlosion, who only nodded. “We almost lost him. Our trainer that is. If it wasn't for a hooded man named Morgan he wouldn't be walking beside your trainer right now." Tyranitar stayed quiet for a minute before walking faster toward Junior. His tap got the lupine's attention.
“Yes?" Everybody stopped walking as our attention went to the rock type.
“What is it Tyranitar?" Axel asked. Tyranitar's gaze went toward us then back toward the hybrid, a smile on his muzzle.
“I know you can understand us and I want you to listen to what I'm asking you.. I can tell you and your friends are super close so don't do anything risky to endanger your well being OK?" He said wholeheartedly. All of us (except for Axel) smiled from that. Junior and Typhlosion more than the rest.
“Of course. Because I know," Junior glanced at us. “They'll miss me a lot." My tail wagged. I couldn't hold back any happiness I had contained and knowing that Junior won't die on us really lifted everybody's moods!
The half wolf turned back toward the trail and sighed. “We're almost at Geosenge guys! Let's go!" He happily exclaimed. All of us nodded and continued, completely unaware of what we'd find.
We walked for an hour or so through the forest before I heard Zoroark yawn. My ears (as well as my curiosity) perked up.
“Are you tired already?" I asked. My friend shook his head.
“Just bored.. don't wanna jinx anything but nothing really exciting happened today besides finding you sleeping with you-know-who." He tauntingly remarked. A flush of embarrassment was apparent under my fur. I glanced over at Junior to make sure he didn't hear that. A sigh of relief escaped me when I realized he was busy juggling conversation with Axel, Tyranitar and Typhlosion.
“I-I thought you were going to forget that!" I said. His chuckle angered me.
“I know, I know. I was kidding. But seriously, I'm bored." The black fox rose his arms behind his head. “Kinda wish something happens soon.. like a gym battle or some random trainer challenges Junior aware or unaware of his Johto past. Eh, even a simple argument would satisfy me." Junior stopped walking causing Tyranitar to almost run into him. His glance darted left then right. I closed my eyes and started to scan the area for any auras. Being in a forest, quite a few Pokemon auras emerged, but something ahead wasn't a Pokemon.
“I smell… blood." Junior stated. Then without warning, he dashed forward. Typhlosion and I ran to catch up.
“Junior, wait up!" Axel and Tyranitar yelled simultaneously. I glanced up and jumped onto one of the nearby trees. When I was a Riolu, tree jumping was always fun. It was just for the kicks and knowing I was the only one who can successfully do it without hitting other branches was neat. Now though, I do it to get higher up to scan for auras.
After another aura scan, I located the thing Junior was running toward. A body, lying in the middle of a patch of bright purple and yellow flowers. My ears flattened. “No… it can't be.."
(Junior's POV)
I wasn't sure what was going on with me. The scent of blood was distinct and was calling me. It was like at Lumiose where.. it was a strong need to be there. It also wasn't a Pokemon or any human we've previously met so that was a good sign. I had a strong feeling of running on all fours after awhile, but immediately stopped that.
I glanced behind me to see Typhlosion on my heel. He was as determined to follow me as ever. My gaze rose toward the trees. Lucario had the same dedication. Albeit he's not always brave but he's always trustworthy.
A nearby path lead to where the scent came from. It was scattered of berries and herbs. They weren't useful due to the time it took to get there.
I came to a halt once seeing where I ended up. Typhlosion stopped on my left whereas Lucario landed on my right. The sounds of footfalls echoed throughout the forest before the others arrived. Each gasping for air.
“What… was.. that about?" Axel wheezed.
“Is he always running off like that?" Tyranitar inquired, panting. Zoroark nodded his head before looking at me.
“What happened.. this time? Another Pokemon?" I shook my head, glancing around to scan the area. It resembled where I met Axel. A large grove of trees surrounded us. A blanket of purple and yellow flowers coated the ground. Each swaying to the light breeze presented. It would've been calming if not for the reason I felt lured there.
My ears twitched in my hood at the sight of the figure. He was buried by the flowers. His hair was royal blue, matching his jacket and jeans. He had light skin. A bit of a red shirt was peeking out from under his jacket. I also noticed that he had black fitness shoes. Guessed he was a running type.
i ordered everybody to stay back so the human wouldn't be crowded, but Typhlosion glanced down at him. His ears twitched.
“Is he alive?" My mate asked worrisome.
“He is.. or at least he smells alive." I reassured him. My own gaze wondered. Looking left and right to secure our surroundings.
“Junior, we have to do something." Typhlosion stated.
“And what is it that we should do?" I asked him. I really didn't know what to do. We couldn't leave him but I also didn't know how long until he'd wake up.
“I don't know! Maybe.." A groan of discomfort rose our attention. The man slowly opened his eyes and looked at the two of us. Typhlosion and I smiled down at him.
“Seems you're awake now."
“Hey there!" Typhlosion greeted happily.
“There are better places to take a nap then on the ground you know," I lowered my gloved paw toward him, offering my help. “Give me your hand." Sure it seemed stupid to offer to help a complete stranger, but I wasn't going to be rude. Nonetheless, he accepted my help and got to his feet. I stared at his eyes and realized they were a deep red. A quick glance behind him and I saw he had a light looking grey bag. It did however held something that I wasn't going to ask about. The only thing he had on his belt were five Pokeballs so he must've had experience as a trainer.
“Are you alright?" I asked the man, who appeared to be slightly taller than me.
“Yes.. thank you…. Junior." His voice was deep. Everybody glanced at him for a minute because he suddenly knew my name. I wasn't as surprised. Maybe he heard Typhlosion say it was he awake.
“How did you guess that?" Typhlosion asked. I placed my paw on Typhlosion's head and shook my head. I looked at the man.
“So you know my name?" The man looked perplexed. He rose his right arm toward his forehead and grumbled.
“I.. don't know, it just came to me. Is it your name?" The royal haired man gazed at me.
“Yeah.. anyways, do you remember what happened? Why were you in this field and… is that a bloody rag wrapped around your arm?" I pointed out. He looked at his right arm and noticed his wound. Oddly enough he stayed calm and shrug it off as nothing. Everybody sighed.
“Well," Axel began. “Do you know your name at least?" The man stood silent for a minute.
“My name is… uh… I don't know. I'm sorry, but where exactly am I?" The man started looking around.
“Junior, I think he has amnesia." Zoroark stated. I didn't doubt it. Not knowing his name, where he was and not reacting to his wound seemed off. I didn't want to leave the guy here, he probably wouldn't survive long. Sighing, I knew what I had to do. Even if the others would've protested.
“You're in a region known as Kalos.. um.. do you want to travel with us while you regain your memories? Or do you think you'd be able to hold your own?" The man glanced at each of us. When he stopped on me, he glared. I shuddered under his gaze. I felt like he was studying me. Analyzing me to ensure he knew what I'd do. His sigh reassured me.
“OK.. but first.. who are the others?" Red eyes asked which earned a chuckle from me.
“You have a lot to learn.. er, remember I mean. Also, Zoroark can you take care of his wound? Can you please take off the cloth and sit down?" He obeyed, sat down on the grassy floor and took off the cloth revealing a deep cut. The blood was already overflow from it. And yet he just looked at it then at Zoroark.
“Am I supposed to be worried?" He asked. Zoroark faked a smile before shaking his head. Being the main one who helps with wounds, he always knew about reassurance.
While Zoroark worked on the unnamed man, Typhlosion and Lucario pulled me aside. Worried looks on their faces.
“Are you sure about this Junior?" They asked simultaneously. I chuckled at their skepticism.
“Don't worry," I said. “I know it looks idiotic but.. I don't think he's with the assassins. He doesn't look like one of them nor has the memories to do so. Besides," I got closer toward the two so that Axel and the other guy wouldn't hear me. “I've got a good feeling about him."
