Chapter One: Law Of The Gun and Fang
"Mature longings nomadic sleep
Chafing at customs' chain;
Again from its brumal sleep
Wakens the ferine pack strain." - Some parts taken from "The Call of the Wild", by Jack London.
Her name is Rubetha Elizabeth Ferine but she is never called that. Rubetha's mother, the alpha female she-wolf of the western packs (Rubetha's father was alpha male in the most authoritative pack in the north and east hemispheres, the NE Pack they were called) had the most elegant, white coat with a brownish snout, and teeth as red as blood, but as shiny and beautiful as a ruby, with eyes of a vampire. Rubetha's mother gave her the nickname Ruby, as Rubetha's teeth were the same color, the ruby reds, of her mother when she was born, of course Ruby didn't understand this yet.
As a werewolf half-breed, she was born into luxury, well for her first few days. As animals gathered around from near and far to see the new pup from the coming together of the two most powerful packs in the world, the she-wolf alpha, Ruby's mother, had taken down a bull that had come too close, the other animals kept their space & distance at that. Ruby's pack strain contained the best hunters, the best killers, the best magic users , they where the kings of the forest, survivors, their breed, it was in their genes. Ruby, after just 3 hours after birth, had taken down a full grown adult rabbit. She thought she, at that time, was invincible. But as she would come to find out, she isn't as invincible as she thinks.
A few days after Ruby's mother delivered her seventh pup, the Alpha Male, Ruby's father, went off with some friends. At the same time, humans started to wonder around their nesting site. To humans, were-meat is very valuable, and the fangs worth a fortune not including the hides which where worth a few million all their own. The alpha had caught a scent of these weird, two legged creatures. She tried to hurry her pups into their den, so she could fight and easily kill the invaders, but to no effect, the pups were too slow and the invaders too fast, hauling dogs of their own. From the scents of the dogs, they were about a mile away, from the south, and obviously sled dog huskies, which the she-wolf didn't understand because this wasn't the Yukon, no snow, just fresh air and grasslands. She also knew that she was about .4 of a mile away from her den. I can make it she thought and picked up the youngest pups in her mouth, Ruby and Elijah, and hurried to their den, still far away.
She made it to the den and sent the pups to the back of the den while she hid in a different chamber, gathering dirt to cover the den hole and obstruct scents. The alpha was very frail, since she had just given birth so she decided it inconceivable to take on the invaders and their huskies. When the hole filler was finished she lay down in the further most back chamber of their home and let her 7 pups suckle on her breasts while she took a short, unperturbed nap. About 6 hours later, when she awoke, she sniffed around, the alpha male, her mate, had just been through, the pups were gone as well. She broke into a run to find the hole she filled. Open. When she burst out, chest heaving, she saw her pups, playing with each other in the top nest just about a tenth of a mile away. She ran to them and saw they were hungry. She looked to the left and heard a familiar bark. One of her mate, he was running towards her. She met him and they muzzled and he said,
"I have to go take care of some business hun, more of the new pack formation thing, seems the NE pack is getting restless." He sighed at that.
"Sure, it seems the danger has passed, I will gather some food!" the alpha replied.
The alpha male transformed into a man, just like a man, except some fur showed in different places in patches where the clothing wasn't enough to cover or just not stretchable over the furry arms among other places.
"Cya" he said, he smiled a broad wide smile at her.
She smiled at him back the exact same way as he did a little front flip and took flight into the sky. Like I said before, Ruby's breed is a special breed, a breed of might, cunning, intellect, wisdom...... and magic.
It was the last that the alphas' would see of each other for a long time. The last time the pups would see their mother. When the mother went off to go hunt, she forgot that her pups were left in the ground nest above ground, out of the protection of the den. And no, the danger had not passed.
The alpha had caught a very plump bird and a few fish she kept for her self as she proceeded towards her den. Just as she was about 2 and a half miles away, she trapped a whiff within her nose that was same as before, danger. She dropped the meat and transformed into a dragon, as beautiful as the prettiest stars and the biggest moons, flying off at a few thousand miles an hour. It only took about a minute to get to the den site at the immense speeds she was flying at. She landed in the bushes, transforming back into a semi-human form, coming out to greet her family when she heard gunshot, looked over and saw one of the hunters aiming a gun at her head. The newly born puppy and some of the older pups where being poked and prodded all over their bodies by the other men. Ruby broke out a hi-pitched cry as one of the men fingered her tail hole. That was the she-wolfs motivation to lunge at the man with the gun, he shot, the bullet hit the she-wolf, or seemed to hit the she-wolf, but was deflected with a " SPAZZASZ" , as if the mother had a shield around her body. Too strength less to make another leap she ran over and, transforming back to a wolf now for speed, bit off the finger of the man messing with her daughter. The other men starting shooting the creatures and the mother got in front of her pups, using the 'shield' she has, always making a " SPAZZASZ" noise with every bullet hit. The wolf was growing weaker and weaker with every bullet. Not knowing what to do she tried to transform back into dragon but couldn't, too weak she cursed herself, cursed the weakness, cursed the very fact of the human creatures' existence. The alpha tried various other forms she had in her transformation inventory but was of no use. They finally got through to her with bullets, puncturing every inch of her body with bullets, pups unharmed, 24 magz emptied total, out of ammo. That's when they sacked the husky dogs on the she-wolf, still moving to protect her pups, with her last breath, let out an earth shattering wolf howl that lasted for, what seemed like hours. Leaving the dogs in a daze and the hunters' mesmerized, she tried to kill one of the dogs but dropped where she stood. Dead. As they moved in on the pups and started to skin and de-flesh the she-wolf, the alpha male popped out of the bushes. Stirred from his work by the warning signal from his mate, he came as fast as he could, still in semi-human form. At that the last remaining alpha walked over to the humans, obviously too dazed to see that he had furry patches on his body.
"Yep, a'uff bitch we 'ad here!" Said one of them with horrible English.
"Another said, "It has to be one of those wolves of legend, who can shape shift and morph and -"
The man was cut short of his tale by the alphas' 'human' hand piercing the hunter's neck and ripping out his jugular. Then the wolf-man looked at one of the men and, under his breath, chanted something, which made the human just fall down dead with a 'PLUNK'. Three more hunters joining from behind with fully primitive machine guns, making five men now, locked and loaded staring the semi-human down. The last remaining alpha cast a brilliant blue light in which, when it vanished like a mist, yielded a blue sword with inscriptions on the end of it. The human grabbed it and lunged at his assailants. He sliced and diced, killed them all, using almost all of his strength and furry just to kill these weak creatures, all for revenge. When he was done he had no choice to go back to wolf form, too weak to stay in his changed condition.
Ruby saw her father in all his might, as if he were on fire, infact he was on fire, a blue fire, muscles bulging from the skin like a sharp knife through a plastic bag, eyes red as the devil's, fur on full stand, full bristle. He looked at Ruby, heading her way immediately, going so fast, rushing at Ruby that she wet her self. The last remaining alpha had picked up the two smallest puppies, Ruby and Elijah, and started to carry them off, having no energy to carry the rest. The others started whining and crying, the last remaining alpha turned around, and just for a moment, almost inaudibly and actually, whined, in the first time in the alpha's life he whined. But there was nothing he could do.
Wait!!! The wolf though. He had an idea, with all of his remaining charisma, he howled the longest and biggest hell raising howl that sent all animals in the forest offset and drove all humans back into their homes, made the sky cry in fear with rain and thunder, and alerted all other wolves and were-breeds in a few hundred miles radius of their current location, that he needed help. He turned his back and walked off into the rain with Elijah and Ruby in his clench.... heartbroken.
Even knowing Ruby was under 1 year or age, Ruby wasn't stupid; she knew she would never see her siblings again. Ruby and Elijah tried to whine and wriggle out of their father's grasp, just to cuddle with them one more time, but of no use and even in this weak state he was rather strong. That day Ruby had learned that you should never battle with an armed human unless you have giant teeth or a gaze that could kill one of those two legged creatures in one look, like Ruby's father.
