New to Town - Chapter 1
#2 of New to Town
It's not easy being the new kid.
But when you find that one new friend you just have a good feeling about.
Keep in mind, some tags represent a future event~
Chase groaned and rolled over, squinting his eyes as the sun poured in through his window. Giving a groggy look around his new room, sighing as he checked the time; the clock read Thursday, 6:00 A.M. He yawned and slid out of bed, walking downstairs, not a care that he was completely nude; his father most likely asleep. He went to the bathroom and closed the door locking it, looking himself in the mirror. He was an average wolf, gray fur with a white underside down to his wolf-hood,
He turned to the side and started the shower, setting it to a decent temperature and slipped inside, murring softly as the warm water poured over him, lifting the morning grogginess away. After a quick shampoo, he grabbed a towel and dried off, and hurried upstairs to get dressed and back downstairs to grab a pop-tart. Peeking in his father's room to say goodbye.
His father muttered something in his sleep about sales, or poll, Chase just chuckled and shook his head, walking out the door and down the sidewalk. Not seeing anyone else, he began to worry he was late until he reached the school grounds to find it buzzing with other teens. Passing through crowds, keeping to himself as he excused himself to get into the main building, wandering down the halls, already unsure where exactly he was supposed to be within five minutes of the last bell. He looked at his schedule and surprisingly had found the room he was in this hour, and turned the handle.
Sam looked up from his book as the new and highly confused fur walked in. 'New student? Just what we need...' He thought to himself.
"There's a spot there by Sam. Get settled and begin reading the page explained on the board." The teacher said, pointing to the spot. "We'll discuss the reading when everyone is done."
Sam felt his face grow hot as he heard a snicker a few seats back, and the sharp word "Faggot." muttered, followed by a few more classmates quiet laughs. Sam sighed, ignoring it. It was true that he was gay, and had made the mistake in trusting a friend -- the one behind him laughing now-- who had immediately scorned, and revealed it to half the school in days.
Chase sat in the chair next to the fur a -- wolf like himself, albeit with brown fur-- and looked over at him, and smiled. "Hey. I'm Chase."
Sam glanced over and looked ahead at his book. "Hey..."
Chase frowned a bit, and flipped his book to the correct page. The class ended a few hours later, and Chase found his next class easier this time around, not seeing the brown wolf anywhere this time. The next class was History, they watched a documentary until the bell rang, dismissing the students.
All the furs quickly moved into the Hallway on route to their next classes, or lunch depending on the schedules. Chase had lunch this hour and made way to the cafeteria, standing in the line. The cafeteria was nothing special to look at. A large rectangular room with some tables that had chairs welded into them to fold out into a bench. Chase grabbed a tray and looked around for a table, when he spotted the brown wolf, sitting at his own table. The sight of one person sitting alone on the bench was odd in the packed school. 'Wonder why he's all alone?' Chase wondered, walking in the direction and placed his tray down across from the other wolf.
"Hey, saw this table was free...Figured being the new kid I'd be the one eating alone today. Mind if I sit here?" Chase asked with a nervous chuckle.
"If you want. No one really wants to sit with me. S'been that way for a few quarters-" The brown wolf was interrupted by a voice a few tables down calling Chase's name.
"Yeah you! Come sit with us man." The fur called.
Chase tilted his head and called back. "Thanks, but I'm fine here." He smiled. Sam glanced over at the furs then to Sam, a little look of surprise on his face. 'He wants to actually sit here?'
"Whatever man, I wouldn't let em stand behind you though!" The whole table laughed at the words, and Chase scowled, Sam's claws scratched at the table, his face flushing with anger.
Chase sat down and looked up at Sam. "You okay? What did they mean by that?"
Sam sighed out low, and turned his head up to Chase. He'd learn just as everyone else did, so better to not give himself the benefit of the doubt. "Cus I'm gay, they know it. You know it. So why don't you spare yourself the embarrassment and go sit with them. " He said, the anger and hurt heavy in his words.
Chase recoiled a bit, and relaxed. "Hey...I don't mind you being gay." 'After all...I am too..' he said in his head to himself; he smiled. "Besides, I'm looking for good people. And they're the complete opposite." He said with a frown.
Sam looked the other male in the face, something in those eyes told him this wolf wasn't pulling his chain, or making fun of him, and he smiled and held out his paw. "I was...rude this morning. My name is Sam. Chase right?"
Chase grinned "That's right." He said shaking the extended paw, smiling happily. The two ate their lunch, discussing this and that, turning out both wolves shared similar passions. A few in particular being video games, and horror movies.
Chase made a face "Yeah I saw that one, I couldn't sleep for days. My dad isn't pretty big on horror though, what about yours?"
"Ah, my parents are...not so fond of anything like that really..." He said quickly, changing the subject. "So how about the new remake in theaters. I saw a poster for it, and it looks like it could be good."
Chase's ears perked. "Oh yeah it does, that reminds me, my dad said he'd drop me off to see it this weekend. Maybe you can come with?"
Sam was so shocked at the invitation he simply nodded. "You're inviting me? I mean...Sure! I'll totally go!" He couldn't contain his tail as it began to wag on its own accord. No one had invited him to partake in any social gathering ever since his coming out, it had left the poor wolf in a rather depressed state.
Chase grinned. "Cool! I live nearby, tomorrow after school we can just walk to my place."
Sam tilted his head before realizing. "Oh, you probably don't have the schedule yet. The school has to go under some kind of maintenance thing until Tuesday, so we have Friday and Monday off, four day weekend heh."
Chase blinked and thought. "Well then you can come over today! I'll set it up with my Dad to take us tomorrow. Maybe if your parents don't care you can stay the night or something. Maybe even the Weekend but that might be pushing it."
"Ah, actually my parents are...gone for the weekend so I doubt they'd mind. So I guess I'll see you after school?" He said with a smile, trying to calm his tail from wagging any quicker before it drew attention.
Chase gave a nod. "Definitely. Meet me in the front of the school after class." Sam nodded; the two males said goodbye when the bell rang, leaving off to their next classes after depositing their trays. The rest of the day seemed to run painfully slow before the final bell of the day rang with an announcement to wish the students a happy three day weekend. Sam and Chase met up outside and made their way to Chase's house. When they walked in, Chase heard his dad from the kitchen.
"Hey, bud. How was school?"
"Good. C'mere I brought a guest over, I want you to meet him." He called back.
John stepped into the living room, looking Sam over. "You must be a new friend of Chase's. Well make yourself at home, we still are." He said with a chuckle. "My name's John."
Sam smiled and replied. "I'm Sam, it's nice to meet you."
Chase moved to his father. "Hey dad, you said you'd take me to see that movie this weekend right? There's no school tomorrow cause of some teacher thing, and I thought you could drop me off tomorrow, and Sam could join me."
John stroked his chin. "I don't see why not, I can drop you two off on my way to work tomorrow. "
Chase's tail wagged. "We also were thinking he could stay the night, his parents are out of town for the weekend, so it's just going to be him at his house."
Sam gave a little nod. "They won't mind if I stay with someone, in fact I think they'd prefer it instead of me being alone. I'd call them, but it's some business stuff, and they said only call in an emergency."
John rubbed his head. "Well alright, but I'd like to meet them on Monday after work if that's okay."
Sam gave a little nod. "I'll see what I can arrange sir."
Chase grinned as he tugged Sam's shirt. "C'mon I'll show you my room." The two walked up into Chase's attic, and Sam looked back as the door shut.
"Your dad work a lot?" Sam asked, looking over the photos on Chase's nightstand. All of them were either of Chase and his dad, or just a cheesy portrait. Chase just gave a nod and sat on the bed.
"Yeah, he works with one of his friends in a supply business. It's his and my Dad's job to supply a lot of equipment to other businesses that they use to run. I don't pay much attention." Sam gave a little nod, and kept looking at the photos.
"Did your mom take these?" He asked idly, looking at Chase when he didn't hear a reply.
"My...mother died during birth with me...I never really got to know her, just pictures dad still had..." He explained, his eyes misting as he looked away to wipe them.
Sam's eyes widened. "Oh, I'm so sorry..."
Chase stared at the ground, then smiled and looked up. "It's fine, you couldn't have known. You want to play some video games? I got a couple fighting games, and some co-op stuff."
Sam returned the smile "Sure, though I'm a bit rusty."
The two sat in Chase's room playing video games for hours, only stopping when John announced he had made some food. They now sat playing a co-op zombie slaying game, the little animated undead furs groaning and skulking to the characters, only to be shot down with a satisfied sound of victory here and there. By the time 2:00 A.M. stuck both boys were sending out contagious yawns, affecting one another.
"Ugh, I'm not used to being up this late." Sam said, hiding his recent yawn.
Chase's eyes were drooping as he stretched. "Same here..That's the farthest I've gotten on that game."
Sam looked around the room, and then to Chase. "So where do I sleep?"
Chase glanced over. "Well where I lived before, I had guest so rarely that they just would just sleep in my bed, or on the floor." Sam frowned.
"I don't want to kick you out of your bed."
Chase chuckled. "I didn't mean take it take it. It's pretty big, we can both sleep in it and never make contact. I have a spare blanket in my closet."
"Ah, alright." Sam said with a smile, and he lifted his shirt over his head, discarding it on the floor out of the way; Chase noticed his underside was white as well, and matched his brown fur perfectly. Chase could only wonder if that white traveled just as far as he thought it did.
He flushed at the thought and adverted his face to turn everything off. "We should hit the hay then." He said as he shifted out of his own shirt, and grabbed the extra blanket. Both males crawled into the large bed and lied down, after the lights were turned off. He heard Sam give a sigh. "Man this is nice...My bed is nowhere near as comfortable as this..." Sam glanced to his left, where the other wolf was lying a bit away. "I'm really glad you sat at my table today...Today was great." Sam's face flushed nervously, glad the dark room hid it.
Chase felt his own face get warm, as he looked to where the voice was. "I'm glad I did too...Gnight." he replied, closing his eyes. Sam looked over to where he could just barely make out the other wolf's figure, and smiled, turning on the opposite side and closing his eyes, sighing content as they both fell asleep.
