For 2 years this little chapter sat in my folders, lost among other stories and unfinished projects. For 2 years i perished, thinking that others had lost interest in this. That is until i recently uploaded a journal post and that brought some happiness back to me. http://www.sofurry.com/view/1037163#774172466

I have found something that I lost and for that, i am ashamed it took me two years to gain this back. I apologize to those who waited for so long for this. I apologize to those whom believed this story lost. It was never lost, just... it needed some more motivation. With that said, I bring you the second to the last chapter of Book 2. With the last chapter, before the epilogue, it will be the end of this long awaited book and hopefully the start of Book 3.

I will upload the cover art where I had once planned to publish this book to the world and hope that it becomes a beacon to those whom missed my stories.

My Life as a Dragon Slave Chapter 9

When the end comes nigh, never compromise.

Never give up and never stop,

Not in the eyes of Armageddon.

You stand your ground, head held up

And your eyes filled with anger.

The gods may want you gone, but you will prove,

That you will not die on your knees for them.

You will die cursing them and letting them know

That in the eyes of Death, you won the game

Of patience.

Is Darkness a blessing or a state of mind? When you’re in it, are you aware or do you feel as time goes by, that it was just a few seconds, rather than hours?

The gods only know that when I was in that darkness, it felt like a lifetime.

My darkness began showing me my life. From the time I could remember of a hatchling, to my terrible experiences at youth, to my younger brothers and sisters, to finally meeting John.

It was almost a blur, but I could still remember the events. But then, my visions blurred once more and now, I stood with my family. They all looked happy, finally being free from slavery but then… John isn’t with us. I see him off in the distance.

My heart breaks, seeing him so sad, no other to care for him. I walked towards him, hoping to quell his sadness. As I come closer, something happens, he begins to age. From just a few years till his hair slowly turns gray, then rapidly he begins to age more His skin becomes wrinkled and old. From his wrinkled hands, he reaches out for me, but his skins turns to dust and agony etches over his face and soon, only his bones remain. Yet he still reaches for me…

JOHN!”

I jump up from the table, gasping for breath. My heart was beating a million miles a minutes and my vision was still blurry. Then a searing pain runs through my belly and I fall back down. Tears stream from my eyes as I try to endure the pain.

“John!”

I immediately hear a voice, but it sounds distorted. Hands then grabs mine, holding me as I twist and turn with pain. I then feel the other hand on my face as it began to brush over my head, slowly as if to calm me. I see a distorted figure, holding me and making sure I was alright. I knew instantly it was John. Slowly, the pain began to reside and I felt myself calm.

It took time but my vision and hearing came back. The first thing I saw was John leaning over me, with a worried expression.

“J-John?” I tried to ask. My voice felt dry and I felt a little numb.

“Shhh,” he whispered. “Your fine, Verdera. You still have some morphine going through you. It will be in your system for a while and… you’ll be in a little bit of pain but it should numb you, so you will be fine.”

My body relaxed… if any more than it was now, I would probably look dead. But hearing that, I felt calm now. I moved my hand to his and grasped it. He held it back, tightening his grip.

“A-Are they out?” I managed to ask? He hesitated but nodded.

“They are… and… the doctors say that they will be used for a great cause.”

I couldn’t help but release a few tears. I felt so… relieved and saddened at the same time, knowing that my children would go to help other drakes but also… that I won’t get to feel like a mother again for a long while.

Sobbing softly, I wanted to curl up. Instead, John managed to reach around and hug me. He brought his hand under my shoulders and held me. Despite feeling numb and weak, I still managed to tightly hold onto him.

My anger, sadness and joy all came in one as I cried onto him; the one man who has done so much for us. He has given us a hope for freedom and peace of mind.

After the incident with my first owner, I had always though humans were naturally evil and hateful. Creating us and soon after enslaving us, I thought that they would keep as that way for the rest of our lives. With no hope, no freedom… no life.

John and Dian proved me wrong though. There can be heart and kindness to them. They can love like we do, and just like love it can come and go, but a true love never forgets. That is why my heart still craves for John and why even if we are still two different creatures, we can still care for one another. I just wish John could feel the same.

Not long after, the nurses had come back to check on me, including the one, who I believe is with Draco Watch. They evaluated me, made sure that I was not in extreme pain or discomfort and made sure I was healthy.

“You’ve been pregnant for a while,” spoke the receptionist, who I learned her name was Kayla. “So that means that you won’t be able to do much exercise for a while. Usually dragons can recover right after laying eggs but since we had to physically remove the embryos from you, rather than you naturally having them, it is a bit more work for your body.”

I gave a nod in understanding and she continued.

“Now… you will still be lactating for a while so you may want drain any access milk you have. If you have any siblings, young ones, I suggest you give it to them rather than waste. Also no sexual activity of any kind,” A bit of a ‘damn’ reached my mind with a blush seeing as John was next to me, who turned away a bit awkwardly, I not knowing why. “No physical activity, no heavy consumptions of meat… more so, and no stress at all.”

No stress… I live in a giant home with a great human ‘owner’ with my family and others with near endless amounts of food, access to television, no choirs(except the occasional cleaning), and also just rest most of the days.

Yeah… stress… no problem.

…. I don’t want to Jinx myself though by saying that my family will have a bit of a problem with my abortion, I still have to get used to the fact that I gave up two hatchling lives, and that I have a chip that holds information about how to save my kin from enslavement.

Oh… the stress still might be there. But with John there to help us, I know that we can do it.

“Finally, drink a lot of fluids, plenty of rest and more soft foods for easy digesting.”

I and John both understood and she gave a smile. I saw that she knew that John was a kind man and if anything were to happen to me… well she might be a receptionist but she could give him a hard time. Maybe at the cost of her job but she would care too much for a dragon to let it go.

We got out of there within a few hours. The surgery took about an hour and I recovered a few hours after, so it was around the early afternoons when we got out. I had to leave in a hover chair.

Before we arrived to the car, Kayla whispered to me while John prepped the car for me to enter.

“Time is coming close, I hope you’re ready.”

I gave a sigh and looked at John. He needed to know, he needed to know what I have learned and how he can help us. He could be the key to setting us free from everything.

“I hope so, even though I just don’t know how it will end.”

“Neither does Draco watch.” With that, she helped me get off the chair and into the car with John’s help. I know I can walk and all that but they say I have to stay in a chair for some kind of reason.

Once inside the car, the trip back was more or less comfortable. John and I are at least talking to each other better and I know that we have somewhat bonded even more so then usual. But what does that mean for the rest of my family and the others?

Mother will literally tan my hide for doing this thing. Dragons, especially from our ancestors, never abandoned hatchlings. If we did, it would either be because we were too weak ourselves, had died, ill, or the hatchling was a still-hatcher. Either way, other dragons would adopt the hatchlings or keep them long enough till they can take care of themselves.

But, I got rid of mine and I honestly felt a tightness in my chest just thinking about it. There was a chance that they wouldn’t live long enough in the world, die as still-hatchers, or that their deformities would affect them in the long wrong. It was rare enough that I managed to get pregnant from raptors and let alone that there has been hybrids before.

Still, just knowing I gave up life so… easily, I know that this will stay with me for the rest of my life. Do I regret it? I do but… I know that I might regret it later since I wasn’t prepared for it and it was a mistake.

I arrived home, with John helping me out of the car.

“I have to go back to work.” He said helping me into the house. It was already after-noon when we had come back so my families were awake and about with father cooking in the kitchen. John set me down on the couch before checking with my family. The words were all there and at this point, I wasn’t honestly sure how they would react.

I would have been able to hear them from here but my hearing is still a bit drossy from the medicine and everything still felt a bit blurry.

I jolted as I felt a hand on my shoulder and saw John.

“Take it easy, your family knows.” He then held my hand and leaned down. “I know its going to be tough but eventually, things will get better.”

I gave a smile.

“Thank you.”

He nodded and turned to leave. As he opened the door, I felt a sudden dread and feel that somehow things between us will change. If anything it might get better. He closed the door behind him and I sat there staring at the door.

Now, I was home and with my family who are aware of my actions and what will happen between us. I expected something to anger or shame or least resentment. Instead, my mother and father, both had approached me.

Then my mother sat beside me, holding me close while my father held my hand.

“Are you alright?” was the simple question. There was some concern I could tell.

“Do you feel bad or need anything?” asked my father.

“I...I don't know..” I answered truthfully.

My mother hesitated on her next words.

“I am… we are sorry for making that choice for you Verdera. I think we made a mistake forcing you to do this...”

It was their fault I did this, yet I continued on anyways? Should I be angry now that my family regret making me do this? They told me to get rid of them. Should I be screaming at them? Blaming them? No… I said I would do anything to stay with my family, even if it meant something not easy. I wanted to cry but I don't think I have tears anymore. Anger? There was plenty of it but whom was it supposed to be directed at? Them? Me? John? The wave of emotions were like waves, high and low, pushing and pulling and I am not sure what was the dominant emotion to be with.

I opened my mouth, trying to speak and closed it again. With a dry tongue, I spoke.

“It was… my mistake. I followed my instincts instead of my head. I am… I am...”

My mother and father didn't say anything as my mind wondered. I think I may have overexerted myself as the next thing I know, I am lying in my bed with my eyes staring at the ceiling. What happened between then and now was a blank. I am not eve sure what to describe what I was feeling. Lost… hopeless… fearful…

“Verdera?”

I blink once, turning my head to the side and see my sister Kila standing by my door.

“Are you okay?” her voice carried sadness and worry. Something I should be carrying. Why should my younger sister be worried or sad? She has everything now. A warm place to sleep, a bed, toys, someone to play with. Why is she sad?

She walks over to my bed and gets on. The weight of her shifts the bed a little and she place her head near mine, wrapping her tiny arms over my breasts.

“Will you be okay?”

I suddenly chock up a bit… nearly gasping, before wrapping my arms around her, trying my best not to cry. Rubbing her back softly, I hold her close.

“I am now. I am now.” I blink a few tears away. “Now that you are here, I will be.”
