Mehl Digivolve too... Mehlmon!
Mehl prepares for bed only to find a Blue Card from Digimon Tamers hiding under her blankets. Though this one is a different color. Holding it up her computer starts acting weird before she is suddenly sucked into her monitor.
"Well, that was fun," Mehl said with a yawn, stretching back in her chair. "I mean I now see that the show's pacing could have been better in some episodes, but it is still as enjoyable as it was back then."
Mehl had just finished watching some Digimon Tamers with a few friends through Discord. Out of the entire Digimon series it was her favorite season. It wasn't just the theme of Digimon existing alongside the games but also the fact that the show wasn't afraid to get dark and end in a bittersweet manner. Well, except for the implication that there was still a chance for humans and digimon to reunite at the very end. She also enjoyed the designs of the main three digimon in the show, Guilmon being her all time favorite.
There was one thought that always lingered in her mind watching the series. What if Digimon weren't just real but one could become a Digimon too. Now that would be a special treat. Sure tamers had biomerge but that wasn't really what she wanted. Series 4 went more in the direction she was thinking and yet didn't quite hit the mark either. The changes were always temporary, treated more like a power-up, and the story just wasn't as strong. Plus none of the Digimon forms really clicked for her.
As she began shutting things down to prepare for bed she pondered what it would be like to be a Digimon like Guilmon. It would definitely be weird to just have three big claws for hands and only two toes. Having a tail would be nice though. Course she wouldn't be like the regular Guilmon from the show. Her scales would be gold and instead of a digihazard symbol on her belly she'd sport a symbol representing the sun. Sol Guilmon! That could be the subspecies name. And instead if Pyrosphere and Rock Breaker her signature attacks would be Solar Flame and Meteor Cracker.
Such silly thoughts made her kind of feel like a kid again. A feeling of nostalgia washing over her as she shut off her bedroom light. Unfortunately, as fun as thinking about such things were, there was no escaping sleep as a yawn escaped her lips. She slid her chair underneath her computer desk and made her way to her bed right beside it. Pulling back her blanket she began to take her place in the comfort of the mattress. Yet before she could get comfy her hand brushed against something that was already laying there.
Curious, she was sure she had cleaned off her bed earlier. She couldn't tell what it was in the dark other than it felt flat and rectangular. She picked up whatever it was as she retreated from her bed and switched on her room light once more. Once she could make out what she was holding her eyes widened in both disbelief and wonder.
The card didn't look special on the surface. It was all one solid color with a yellow letter D made from a dot pattern in the middle, a pixilated dinosaur jutting out through the middle of the letter. On one edge it was a solid grey as if it was meant to be swiped through a card reader. For one who was familiar with the Digimon series, especially the Tamers season, this was one of the infamous Blue Cards, or D-Cards as she called them. Mysterious cards that would appear and eventually disappear which main characters used to both bring their digimon into the real world and allowed them to digivolve into their ultimate forms. Though this one was different in a very specific way.
This one was red instead of blue.
"No way…" Mehl whispered to herself. "How did one of these get in my bed? And why is this one red? I thought they were supposed to be blue."
As she looked over the card in her hand there was a sudden KRAKTHOOM of thunder which made her jump in fear. She turned towards the window, the curtain closed but flashes of lightning clearly showing through. She had forgotten it was supposed to storm tonight.
"Geez, talk about timing," Mehl grumbled.
There was another bright flash of lightning, and then suddenly her bedroom light went out, everything going dark.
"Aaaand now a power out! Really?"
She flicked her light switch a couple times just to confirm before leaving it in the off position. Last thing she needed was to get blinded when the power came back on. She was about to set the card down on her desk, save figuring out its mystery tomorrow, when she noticed it was giving off a subtle glow. Hairs started to stick up on end as the air began smelling of ozone. Fear built up in her heart as small electric sparks began appearing all around her. Did the storm cause this? Was she about to get struck by lightning?
With a loud cackling, one of her computer monitors suddenly turned on despite the power still being completely out. The screen was a blinding white, forcing Mehl to cover her eyes. The light kept increasing in intensity until the whole room was engulfed in it. Then suddenly everything went dark again, the room going quiet, and missing its occupant.
When Mehl opened her eyes again she realized she was no longer in her bedroom anymore. She looked around in both awe and confusion at the strange environment she now found herself in. The ground, if could even call it that, looked like a circuit board. And above was a blue "sky" with vector lines strewn across. Everything seemed to wobble and distort like she was looking at it all through a heat haze or a mirage.
She knew this space. It was the realm in between the digital and the real world. Just like it was in the show. Did the D-Card bring her here? And most importantly how was she going to get out of here?
Suddenly the D-Card flew from her hand and began to glow once again. She tried to reach out and grab it but the moment she saw her hand she screamed. Her very flesh was peeling away before her very eyes, fading into nothingness soon after. There was no pain however that fact did not make it any less frightening to witness. Even freakier was that underneath she was all a vector outline of her body instead of muscle and bone. The disintegration process was happening all over her body at a rapid pace, taking her clothing as well as skin. Very soon she was reduced to a wireframe model of herself, still fully aware and mentally freaking out.
The changes were far from over, however, as she felt her altered body begin to squish and stretch all over. An invisible force was beginning to change her shape while new flesh was unevenly forming across her body. Her hands were swollen into large bulbous things, three fingers reshaping into massive sharp claws while the rest shrank into nothing. Her feet shifted into something more reptilian in shaped with toes fusing into two massive talons on each foot, the entire shape before forced into a digitigrade stance, and a final claw forming right behind the heel.
She could feel her spine being stretched into a thick, long appendage growing out behind her which shifted her body's natural stance forward. Her entire form felt shrunken down, mass being shifted around all over. Meanwhile a mix of gold, black, and white scales were spreading across her body, forming across her shifting wireframe body like a coating.
Finally the last of the changes arrived at her head as her face was pulled forward into a thick squarish snout. Her skull was scrunched up into a more saurian shape while her ears were reshaped into fins on the top of her head. The last of her new flesh fully formed over her head, finishing the changes.
Unfortunately she didn't get time to take everything in as a wormhole appeared behind the card still floating in the air. The card flew into it and she was unceremoniously sucked in as well, tumbling through a tunnel of zeros and ones, and then tossed out on the other side.
Mehl rubbed her head as she tentatively stood up, wobbling a bit as she adjusted to a new center of balance. It was rather dark with only a few lights in severe disrepair barely lighting up the concrete tunnel she found herself in. Perhaps this was some unused old waterway or sewer tunnel? It smelled bad down here regardless, causing her to hold her snout with a claw in hopes to block most of whatever that smell was.
Waitaminute! Claw? Snout?!
Oh shit that was right! The card, it had transformed her somehow before bringing her to this place. She pulled her hand away and looked over both of them. They looked like overinflated balloons tipped with large, sharp claws. She had some dexterity with them though she was definitely not playing video games on a controller with these things. Likely not keyboard friendly either. She looked over the rest of her now golden scaled body, wiggling her tail, feeling over her head and snout.
She couldn't believe it. She was a Guilmon now! Wait, no! Not just a Guilmon! The golden scales and the sun symbol of her plump tummy where a sign she was something slightly different. She was the Guilmon subspecies of her imagination. She was a Sol Guilmon now!
Her tail began to wag as a feeling of giddiness welled up inside her. This was a dream come true to her. Sure the process was kind of frightening but she couldn't complain with the results. She pondered if she could do attacks like a proper Digimon now too. She tried visualizing how it would look like. The moment she had a clear picture she had a feeling in her maw like something was building up inside it. She tried holding it in at first but it was clear that was no holding this back.
"Solar Flame!" she shouted out as a bright yellow fireball launched from her open maw, exploding a chunk of the wall across from her.
She blushed and clamped her muzzle shut with her claws. At least she knew how to initiate an attack now but will have to be more careful not to use one by accident in the future. Hopefully no one else heard her. Last thing she needed was trouble. In fact it was probably best to not stick around either so she started to go down one of the tunnels only to step on something.
Backing up a bit she realized she just stepped on the card that did all this to her. She picked it up wondering what to do with it now when it started glowing again. This time the card took on a new shape, shifting into a red gemstone inlaid in silver. It then floated up to Mehl's forehead and merged with her, becoming a part of her digital form. She tried gently pulling at it to find it was stuck on good. At least it was safe and something less conspicuous.
Getting back on track she ran down the tunnel again for about a minute before finally coming across a ladder leading up to a sewer grate above. It was a little tricky climbing up as her claws weren't exactly great for gripping things and it was a fair ways up, but she took her time and made it to the surface without falling back down. She opened the sewer grate slowly, enough to take a peak to make sure there wasn't any humans about as being spotted by people like this would probably not go over well. However it wasn't humans that she saw as she carefully pulled herself out, green reptilian eyes wide with amazement at the world before her.
Digimon! It was a town full of Digimon! Going about their business like everyday people in a town where the buildings looked like they were built out of computer parts. The atmosphere was busy yet vibrant. Many a Digimon wore a smile on their face as they talked with their fellows. It was kind of overwhelming yet the positive mood all around brought joy to the newly minted Digimon's heart. She couldn't wait to explore this place!
Although… now that she was here she also felt rather nervous. She didn't know anyone here. What if she couldn't make friends here? What about her friends back home in the human world? Would she ever see them again? Maybe being in a Digimon wasn't all that it was cracked up to be if she didn't have her friends here too.
As she thought about her human friends her gem began to glow. Several orbs of light flew from the gem and right before her eyes they took on the forms of D-cards of various colors ranging from sapphire blue to various greens, pink, coppers, reds, black, purple, and even a black one with green lightning stripes. They all hovered for a while before taking off into the sky, vanishing up above.
Mehl, or rather Mehlmon, felt giddy again. She knew those cards would find her friends and bring them here. Oh, how she couldn't wait to see what sort of digimon they would become! In the meantime she should explore the town a little and try to find a place for them to stay before they arrived. And then they could all start their digimon adventure together!
