“Ah – hello, Luminose City!”
Bou spun in a circle, her arms flung out, though it was not like the Pokemon trainer to be so open and overt. Still, she couldn’t help herself as she hugged her hands back in against her chest, a grin on her face while her dark brown hair tickled her face. Her straw hat was tilted a little askew, so she set that right again, her blouse accessorised at the neck with a soft, pink ribbon.
The city was not quite the place Bou would ever have expected to find herself, but a trainer had to go out into all reaches of the world to find Pokemon. Luminose City was just one stop on her way as she adjusted the bag on her shoulder a little, casting a look back at the train station she’d just come from. Bou brushed her fingers along the Pokeballs, kept in the easy-access pouches on the outside of her bag, though they were all there. She’d only just counted them, after all.
It was more like Bou to be quieter and find her own way around, so she ignored the tour guides touting for business outside the station and scurried off down what seemed to be the nearest main street. Flowerbeds and natural features framed the street, though it was hard for that to detract from the towering buildings, the skyscrapers growing taller the closer they got to Prism Tower, right in the centre of the city.
She didn’t want to head there quite yet, however, taking a left and following a sign that made her stomach grumble. There hadn’t been anything to eat on the train and what she had brought along with her had been shared with her team of Pokemon already. After all, Bou wouldn’t have ever wanted any of them to go hungry and she always took care of her team before thinking of herself.
“Hm… Where do we go, guys?”
The city itself was a little overwhelming, but Bou steeled herself, focusing on what she needed right away without letting herself think about everything else there. The red-themed cafe drew her in, though it seemed small with only two tables inside with chairs, no one else around. Strangely, it was oddly quiet in the street around the cafe, with a Zorua standing poised behind the counter, a small apron tied neatly around them.
“Arf!”
The dark-fox Pokemon gave a small yip, though it would have been hard for them to sound like a dog-type Pokemon, not in the slightest. Bou couldn’t help but smile and coo at them, bending down a little so she was better on their level.
“Oh, hello little one!” She said, a genuine smile on her lips. “Are you running this shop? Could you recommend anything for me? I’m hungry after my train trip.”
The Zorua nodded quickly, like they knew exactly what would do the trick for her – and they were right. Carefully, with a pair of tongs, they selected a freshly baked croissant with almonds flaked across the top, perfectly baked. It was obviously fresh and puffed up beautifully, though had just the right about of crispiness to the outer flakes of the baked good. The Zorua popped it in a bag for her and pushed it across the top of the counter with their nose, pressing a button on the register.
“Twenty bits? Okay!”
It was not the usual sort of transaction Bou carried out, but she slid the coins across to the Zorua who tipped the counter (it seemed to have a mechanism) and slid the coins into a tray for it to disperse into the cash register. The croissant, of course, was already in her grasp and Bou waved goodbye to the Zorua as she headed off, thinking she could sit down in a park or some other small, green space to enjoy her pastry.
A small park with a mini waterfall opened up, though it too seemed oddly quiet. A Weedle wriggled subtly through a patch of grass while a Skitty sat by the water, seemingly staring at their reflection. Sure, there was still a distant bubble of noise from the city, but it was easy enough for Bou to ignore as she plopped herself down on the bench and immediately took a big bite of her croissant.
“Mmm!”
She made a soft sound of appreciation, chewing quickly as flavour exploded in her mouth. It didn’t just seem to have flaked almonds on it, but something sweeter… She took another bite to test it out, eyes widening.
Blueberries?

A ripple ran through her and she cried out, swallowing her second mouthful before the fluffy pastry was even fully chewed up. It would have to do, however, as the croissant dropped to the pavement, still, thankfully, mostly tucked within its paper bag, which she had not fully removed it from before tucking in.
Something was wrong – but something was right too. A sense of softness wafted around her, like her body had turned into a cloud, her clothes suddenly resting more heavily on her. They didn’t feel right, though Bou typically dressed for comfort and her long skirt suddenly felt too cloying and heavy. Why had she put them on when her body was so light? She didn’t want to be compressed, not like that, not…squeezed.
Yet that was exactly what Bou’s body was doing as she pushed into herself, her body growing softer and smaller, her arms, somehow, seeming to grow shorter. She wobbled on the bench, struggling to sit upright even then, though there was no one around to help her – and there was little they’d ever be able to do about a cursed pastry either. Only a Pokemon could rectify that and she wouldn’t see the little Zorua again until later.
Bou gasped for breath as her body smoothed down, her clothes billowing around her. The skirt loosened around her waist, but her skin was no longer “just” her skin, becoming light and fluffy, almost like the pastry she’d eaten. And yet it was not fully like a croissant, not with the flaky, crumbling exterior but firmer, almost like a bun.
She wriggled, not wanting to be in her clothes anymore, even as her chest smoothed down, her flesh softening and resettling on other parts of her body. Something pushed lightly from the base of her spine and her stomach felt fluffier, itching and prickling as something tickled its way forth. Yet that was not all of it as she shrugged and twisted her way out of her blouse, slipping down to the ground before the bench on all fours. It simply felt more natural, just as her face pressed out, her nose elongating and her lips pulling along with it.
Oh! She recognised that. It was a snout, though she wasn’t meant to have a snout, obviously. Still, recognising even a small part of what her body was transforming into helped her out there.
A tail pushed from the extension at the base of her spine, thickening up with fur. To have a furry body like that was new to Bou, but she tried to relax into it, despite the fluttering of her heart. It bounced and jittered in her chest, her legs shrinking, pulling her down closer to the ground, though it felt like she might have stood at about three-feet-tall when she was on all fours like that.
“Unff… Come-onth…”
She tried to talk, but there was really no point with the shape of her mouth changing just like that. She licked her lips and her tongue spilt out, slimmer and flatter than before. Bou shifted her hips and found she rather liked that little wriggle, how it moved with her tail, her heart feeling oddly lighter along with her body. Exhaling, she tried to relax into it a little more as the softness spread down her back, which was definitely not flurry.
Her back was not fluffy at all, however, if one considered baked goods like that to be fluffy. A line of buns formed on her back, a part of her and yet an accessory at the same time, dotted with blueberries. Oh, how she tasted the blueberries! Even though her tongue was, of course, very firmly in her mouth and not pushing over her back, tasting her new body, she could still taste those blueberries and light, fluffy buns in her mouth.
Her heart sang and she settled there, pushing up onto her toes as her body seemed to find a stance that better suited her. Her heels pushed up and she recognised, at last, with a bark-like laugh the “hocks” of the dog-like Pokemon she was becoming. Not that Bou had expected it in the slightest, but at least she knew what she was transforming into, which at least felt a little better in her mind.
With her ears softening, spilling down into Dachsbun folds, she shook her head, taking a few steps back, raising a back leg and kicking her way out of her skirt. Her boots had been simple enough to step out of, for her feet and legs were much smaller as a Dachsbun, her toes neat and tucked together. The socks were more difficult, however, and she let out a grumbling grunt as she shook her back legs, struggling to get them off. However, Bou managed it, pawing at her head as her neck thickened up with another ring of buns and fluff underneath. Even the fluff was strange as it sprang forth, tickling and itching at the same time, but the sensation quickly eased, so it did not linger in Bou’s mind for long at all.
That was for the best, as the buildings seemed to tower above her even more. It was strange, being so much closer to the ground, though she was, perhaps, a little shorter than three-foot. It was hard to say, though Bou, oddly enough, did not mind. Things like that didn’t seem to matter anymore as she exhaled and her snout formed a little more fully, allowing her tongue to scoop and sweep against the small teeth in her mouth. They were canines, but they were not all that threatening, not even then, and new muscles at the base of her tail encouraged her to wag it with an awkward little twitch back and forth. That would come in good time.
Bou turned in a circle and almost tripped over her own paws. They were small and round too as she flexed her toes, getting a feel for her blueberry-flavoured body, though it was only then that she realised her body was darker, almost sparkling…
“Eeeyip!”
She bounced (and almost fell over all over again for her troubles), but it was worth it to teeter and totter over to the little pool of water, below the two-foot-high waterfall. Her body rippled, the buns on her back wobbling faintly, and the Dachsbun blinked, peering into the water.
Bou was just in time to see the last features of her body settle into place, the rounded buns shifting with her body. The Skitty eyed her, though they didn’t seem at all perturbed by what was going on, merely washing a paw and eyeing her up as a fellow Pokemon would.
She…was very different. For only a fully formed Dachsbun looked back at her from the pool, like that was how she’d always been, with a longer body, her back having stretched out a little, and her tail wagging delightfully. She could control it better then, wagging back and forth, delighting in just what she was able to do.
Yet she had caught her colour shift correctly and the Dachsbun was definitely darker and more sparkly, blueberries dotting the buns: a shiny version! That may not have mattered to just a regular, old Pokemon, but it sent a wave of euphoria, her heart pounding and lifting, through Bou, lips parted and her tongue rolling out in a Dachsbun-like pant that felt simply right in the moment.
Maybe being a Dachsbun in Luminose City, after everything, was the best way to begin.
She walked slowly, carefully, back to her bag and slung it over her, working out how to use her tongue and teeth to tighten the strap around her. It tucked around the back of her neck and, thankfully, was not all that heavy. Besides, she was really concerned about making sure her Pokemon team was with her, whether or not she was going to be a Pokemon forever. That was something Bou would deal with later.
Picking up her pastry, carefully, in its paper bag, she closed her mouth gently on it and got to work on just how to make all four of her legs work together in a light jog.
First things first, she had to thank the Zorua for the surprise transformation! The scope of her time in Luminose City and there was no way Bou was going back after all that.
Her adventure there had only just begun.
