A Vigilante's Valentine

In the city that plays a game of heroes and villains, there are days where both sides would take a break to enjoy the holidays with their love ones, but not all of them will. DD is one of them, although begrudgingly as someone important to him was visiting as a surprise.

In the bustling streets of the city that plays heroes and villains everyday, people carry around gifts and balloons as they prepare for Valentine’s Day. No worries of fights as many heroes and villains had chosen to take the day off to spend with those close to them. Of course, not all of them are willing to rest if it means making some extra cash.

Standing in his usual spot, a helmed gray cat looms over the city, watching the streets carefully, brooding. His long red scarf fluttered in the winds, his white happi with a pink cherry blossom design and leather armor keeping him warm from the winter colds. His digital blades and face on the helmet turned pink to match the holiday of love. Dangling from one of the ends was a pendant with a ruby heart. The name of the heroic vigilante that constantly protects the city is-

“Jasper,” a voice rang inside the cat’s comms built into the helmet, startling him from his brooding, “where are you? Don’t you know what today is?”

“I-I do, but I’m at Navineo, working,” he quickly replied, before calmly reminding him, “I would’ve taken the day off if you had told me you were going to visit. I’ll try to make the patrols not take too long, ok?”

“…Alright, stay safe out there hon, I love you.”

“I love you too, kitten. DD out.” He takes a lonely sigh, scanning for any requests for help. His sights soon focused on a random alleyway, where signs of fighting were happening, jolting him right up from his feet. He leapt, diving off from the skyscraper and straight towards the commotion, landing quietly to cover to see what was happening.

In the midst of battle was a green dragon, fighting by herself against a group of 4 ordinary-looking thugs that the cat could take on himself. The dragon was fighting them off with a scythe made entirely of purple magic except the metal stick she’s holding, wearing a dark blue postal hat that has holes for her horns adorned with a symbol of a simple parcel box and a pair of wings, a blue buttoned shirt that covered up a black graphic tee underneath, a black pair of jeans. With a swift, strong swing towards her attackers, the magic bursts, propelling them to the walls and knocking them unconscious. After checking on each of them one-by-one to see if they’re fully knocked out, she takes out a little round bot, letting it scan and take pictures before turning around to see the helmed cat coming out of the cover.

“Didn’t think you’d be working today,” the cat noted, approaching the simple mailwomen with purple eyes. “Need any help delivering your ‘packages’ today, Ren?”

“Good to see you too Jasper,” the draconic woman greeted, “but no, I’m not doing any hero gigs today. Just doing my real job with Winged Packages.” The helmed cat stared, the digital face looking doubtful as the two stood in the dark alley, surrounded by knocked out thugs. “Well with a lot of people taking the day off, I’d thought cutting through the alleys would be faster than the usual routes I take.”

“I see, well do be careful on your runs, I’ll make sure I won’t get in your-“

“I didn’t say you couldn’t come with me,” she interrupted him, “how bout I hire you? You escort me through my routes and protect my stuff from harm, how about that?”

“Why need me when you’re fully capable of defending yourself,” he brushed it off immediately, turning around, “I’ve seen how you work before after all.”

“Well what if I say I’m carrying a gift for you, bought online from Dwight,” she enticed, the cat’s ears perking up instantly, “your boyfriend ordered something pretty heavy and it’d be really terrible if it got damaged because of some thugs. Don’t you want to protect it?”

“Then he can file a complaint,” the cat coldly replied, “not my fault he chose to get me a last second gift for his sudden return trip.”

“I see and you already have one prepared then,” the woman asked, noting the cat’s statement with a smile. She quickly looks through her bag before bartering, “alright I’ll sweeten the deal, I’ll get you a gift for Dwight as your reward. I have a package straight towards a sticker mod shop. I know how much Dwight loves decorating your rune bots with it, so I’ll pay a couple packs in return.”

“What sort of stickers?”

“Anime, gaming, comics, geek stuff that I know you two love. Have some pretty good upgrades too, last I checked.” She hopped towards the cat, smiling at him before asking, “so, we got a deal, Delta Devil?” She hopped back, tapping the little floating bot, causing it to glow and tying up the thugs together. With a wink, the thugs are stuffed into a small package full of holes before she puts a packaging label made from the name, Missing Messenger.

“Of course,” the helmed cat answered with a smile on his digital face display, “nice to work with you again, Missing Messenger. Let’s go, don’t want the cops to show up on us.” The dragon grabbed onto the cat’s hand, her Eyes glowing as space distorted around them for a quick second, before wrapping back to the other side of the alley, a trail of fading pink butterflies left behind. She quickly leaned against the wall, taking a second to recover herself.

“Need these,” the cat asked, taking out a bottle of motion sickness medicine and an unopened bottle of water from underneath his happi.

“Thank you,” she accepted, taking both of them. “So what’s with the get up,” she asked after taking a good chug of water. “I thought you don’t do the whole ‘change your outfit for holidays’ thing that some heroes and villains do.”

“Dwight gave me this new happi as a Yulelight’s present last year,” the helmed cat answered with a blushing digital face. “Thought it’d be fitting to wear it since almost every store and lights are covered in pink.”

“That’s sweet,” the dragon comments happily before complimenting, “it looks cute on you, your boyfriend definitely has taste.”

“Let’s get back to your route M,” the cat stoically deflected, “you’re recovered from your ailment. Don’t want to delay the deliveries.”

“Sure you little cutie patootie,” she playfully teased while putting away the bottles. She hopped off the wall onto the streets, resuming her route, with DD following behind. Though the woman happily delivered her packages through various alleys, the cat stayed in the shadows, monitoring and accessing any potential threats. Thankfully for him, he didn’t need to take out threats as nothing happened during Ren’s deliveries of heart-covered packages.

They stopped at their final destination, a building filled with various hobby stores. Ren separates from the cat to do her final delivery, letting Jasper browse freely. He noted every shop that would interest his love, planning a future date whilst valiantly staving off the temptation of impulse buying.

…He quickly lost to a set of cute solar dancing toys depicting characters of a popular hero show that he and his partner watched constantly.

He eventually makes his way to the sticker shop in the building, with Ren waiting for him. He quickly went through the shelves with her at his side, making her look out for him. He picked up a couple of packs to compare, cautiously using his helmet to completely scan the contents in them whilst the dragon covered him. After getting the best ones, the two head over to the counter to make their purchase, with Ren paying for all of it. With their final task done, the two headed out the building, walking towards a nearby bus stop that would take Jasper home.

“So how’s your relationship going with Dwight,” Ren asked, “is everything going well with him?”

“...It’s going alright,” the cat replied with a little sigh, “I just miss him a lot, I don’t get to see him often now that he’s taken to travel the world.” His mind drifted towards the cougar he loves, thinking about his call earlier in the day. “...It gets lonely, being home alone when my partner is miles away from me. Doesn’t help that I worry for the both of us, either one of us could die and the other wouldn’t know for a long time.” Ren soon led Jasper to a quiet alley, helping him vent out his troubles away from listeners, both of them leaning against the wall opposite from each other.

“I know I asked this before, but why don’t you travel with him? I bet he misses you too and I’m sure he’d love to bring you along to see the world.”

“...I’m conflicted, I want to go with him and explore the world next to his side, but I’m afraid of leaving everything behind here. I live here, raised here, I made friends with so many people here, it’s my home. If I leave with Dwight, I’d have to start over, far away from home with a lot of new people around me I’d be scared to open up to. Dwight makes it look so easy to do that, I could barely talk to anyone unless I’m wearing my helmet. The only time I can do that is when I’m talking to him.”

“Have you told him about it?”

“That’s the thing, I want to talk to him about it, but every time we talk about the future, I freeze up and I’d get scared again. I don’t want to ruin the thing we already got going between us, but I know I want things to change. I’m not sure how I could do it when all I could think of was the people here.” The dragon places a hand on his shuddering shoulder, lightly patting it.

“You’ll be able to, I know you will,” she consoled him with a gentle smile, “you two were always close to each other back when you were roommates, so I know you two will find a way. Put your trust in him and when you have that courage to tell him what’s on your mind, shout it. It may be embarrassing, but at least it’ll get you two talking.”

“O-Ok, I’ll try to do that when I can,” Jasper noted, his ear soon twitching from the sound of an incoming bus. “Thank you again for today Ren, I needed that.”

“Oh no, thank you for coming along with me,” she fired back, “I appreciate you tagging along and keeping me company. Oh let me give you Dwight’s package before you go.” She opened her bag, taking out a blue packaging bag covered in hearts before handing it over to the cat along with a small bundle decorated with a checkered red pattern. “The bundle is a gift from me to you and Dwight, a little treat for the couple, don’t open it til you get back, alright?”

“Alright, thank you Ren,” the cat nodded, turning around before heading off, “take care, I’ll see you around.” He quickly hopped on the bus, putting away the gifts underneath his outfit and sitting next to the window, watching his draconic friend happily waving him away. Using his helmet, the cat puts on a timer before falling asleep, waking up minutes before it was his stop. Well rested with a fresher mind, he heads back home, planning ahead of what needs to be done in the future.

“I’m home,” Jasper shouted as he entered his apartment, “you got a package!” He quickly noticed a tiny sweet fragrance from the room, but ignored it, wanting to see his partner. A bluish grey cougar soon walks out of the cat’s bedroom, soon running towards him into a hug.

“Welcome home Jasper,” he cheerfully greeted, purring with loving nuzzles. Though he quickly breaks away, snatching his package from the cat’s hands, a glimmer in his eyes. “It came! I was getting worried, I thought it’d come tomorrow.”

“Well I did run into Ren on my patrols,” Jasper revealed as he quickly undressed himself to a simple tank and shorts, “by the way, she said ‘welcome home,’ and gave me some sweets.” He tossed his clothes to the automatic washer before putting things on the kitchen counter, opening the neatly wrapped bundle to unveil a plate of cookies, ones decorated to look like both of the felines’ faces. Dwight beamed and awed at how cute they looked while Jasper quickly went to get his gifts.

“They look delicious,” the cougar said, grabbing one with Jasper’s face, “I’m totally going to enjoy eating you up!” The cat’s face turned red as he watched his partner eat the cookies.

“H-Hey Dwight, I have something for you,” he shyly let out, taking out both the sticker packs and the set of solar dancing toys. “I-I thought you might like these.” A squeal soon emitted from the cougar as he took the sticker packs first, quickly opening it with an untrimmed claw.

“Hell yeah, I love those guys,” he commented, pulling up the stickers to show Jasper, who already knew the contents beforehand. “I can’t wait to stick these upgrades on my bot, I’m going to be faster than before! Thank you Jasper!” He gives his partner a big ol hug, squeezing him and nuzzling his face with both of them purring. The cougar soon parted, curiously checking out the solar dancing toys.

“As for these, I’m definitely leaving some here and putting them on my work desk,” Dwight declared, taking out his knife. With a quick cut, he places one of them on the windowsill, soon watching it buck its hip from side to side. It didn’t take long for the cougar to be mesmerized, soon putting two more to see the trio dancing in unison, with Jasper smiling at his adorable partner. Clearing his throat, Dwight breaks out from the trance, remembering something important.

“Oh yeah, your gift, it’s in the package I ordered,” Dwight remembered handing Jasper back the package. “It’s probably not the best, but it’s been getting cold, so I thought it might be useful for you.”

With curious intrigue, the cat opens up the box, removing the item from the box to reveal a big onesie, one shaped as a fuzzy brown bear. “It was the only one they had for that size, but I thought you needed one,” Dwight revealed with a hint of shame. “Is it alright? I wanted to make up for the surprise visit.”

“…Well that depends how you react when I put it on,” Jasper spoke, putting it on and putting the hooded derpy bear face over his head. He looked a little bigger with the extra fabric, but he felt the onesie’s warmth and smiled as soon as he saw Dwight smiling. “Guess that settles it, from now on I’ll be your cuddly kitty bear when I get home,” he teasingly declared, followed by Dwight cheering.

“Good, because I’m not letting you go if you’re going to bed in that.”

“As much as I love that, I’d probably overheat,” the cat sighed with a smile. “So what were you cooking earlier?”

“That’s probably the cinnamon rolls I was baking earlier, we can have that later,” Dwight answered. “For dinner though, I was making some creamy beef stroganoff! I wanted you to try something different, so I got a bunch of recipes from one of the people I talked to. I’ll heat it up right away, so we can eat together! Have a seat cutie!” The cougar happily hopped his way to the stove prepping the meal whilst Jasper sat at the table, happily admiring his partner’s muscular frame moving about.

It didn’t take Dwight long to finish, putting the reheated food in two bowls and serving it on the table. The two enjoyed their time together, talking about recent events and stories they’ve encountered, all while eating the delicious creamy dish. After the two ate some cinnamon buns, Dwight leads his cat to the bedroom, closing the door on him while telling him to wait.

“Come in,” he’d shout, signaling Jasper to walk in, seeing the cougar seductively laying in bed naked, surrounded by rose petals as a rose was in his maw. Fake candles surround him, all lit as a heart-shaped box of chocolates that censors his junk. “Come here kitty, your final gift is me,” the cougar purred seductively.

“…You cute dummy,” Jasper let out, his face somewhat flushed as he approached the cougar. “You do know that you’re cleaning all this up later, right?”

“Of course, but for now, let’s enjoy the moment,” Dwight replied, both of them soon making out. With a light push, the cat towers over the cougar, their bodies soon bound together for the rest of the night.
