Long Gone From Now Till Forever
Rhogar’s story
by: OliverBow/Boliver
“What should I do now?” I ask myself. Time flows by from the east hall to the courtyard view, to the far gates, and to the ocean beyond the walls.
Opening up my eyes and ears as I scan and listen to the misty rooms and empty halls, as someone in the music hall played their souls melody, the new semester begins today, yet I'm far behind the rest. Growing up, I wanted to be the greatest in my field and make great friends along the way, but that has proven to be more challenging than I had ever imagined.
“Hey, Rhogar. What’s the holdup?” whilst mindlessly lost staring blankly into the once-empty hallways a soft voice snaps me out of the disturbing glares of the past. I turned to look at one of my friends, Lights, his face so filled with concern, it was nearly dreadful.
“Oh nothing really, just trying to live life. Thinking about the many possibilities that it may throw when the time comes.” If only life could be more merciful with their pitches, soon after Lights attempts to bring me back to earth his voice slowly turning into murmurs, I stare back into the space of doubt.
For all I know, I’m just a part of the system observed by the great puppeteer of actions. The breeze sets sail and runs freely throughout the halls, laughing away, enjoying the freedom it has always known.
“But Tu, Corbin, and Oliver are waiting for us outside., It’s not wise of us to keep them waiting like this, you know?” Lights glances out the window and lets out a sigh as he turns back to face me with a raised brow.
“Yeah, yeah, I'll be right there. Just gotta finish cleaning the training hall.” I said turning back to mopping the sticky floors. No one bothered cleaning up the disaster they left behind from the misuse of Soul mana.
The ethereal walls that contain me here as a Pillar are not to be messed with, although the wall doesn’t exist it’s only there to stop those who are not ready to face the dangers far and beyond, no matter if it was physical or spiritual, the world is full of mysteries we have yet to discover.
Lights and I make our way out onto the vast yield of brush that dances with the wind, alongside the rustling blades of nature. Oliver and Corbin pester us with questions that we barely have enough time to answer.
“Well good thing both of you are on time. We thought you both decided to ditch because you got cold feet.” Even after the whole ordeal, Tu still looks delighted to see us make it on time. His face doesn’t show it but a tail never lies.
We were informed ahead of time that not everyone would be assigned fieldwork outside campus grounds because some of us haven’t reached our potential, and needed to train more than usual. The once-enthusiastic crowd of upperclassmen went silent. Listening to the professor send out students one by one, we all had to go our separate ways.
“Guess this means farewell friends, may we meet again at a later date,” Oliver said, laughing away without a care in the world.
“Be careful out there. You don’t know what dangers you’ll be put up against or who you’ll encounter,” Corbin nervously remarked, letting out a sigh as the sheer tension of silence faded away as I was the only one left out in nature's playground.
“Haah…” Letting out a sigh I fumble my way back to the dorms alone, the unpleasant murmurs got me thinking about how life for me would have been different if faith’s web was woven differently, would the lines thrown by life be different?
We all knew the risks of being a student at the highest-deemed college on the island of Perial. Just being a student is enough of an honor, especially because only a select few professors know the requirements to get in. Somehow No one knows how or why.
I walk past the lounge and the entrance to the dorms, avoiding any chance of being spotted by a single soul, stepping out into a lush beach with calming waves and fragrant breezes. As I allow my body to fade away into the vulnerable spirit of the water as I gaze up into the vast orange skies of the afternoon, I wish to see my dear friends enjoy such a marvelous sight alongside me, especially Tu and Wise. I already miss the eye candy.
But I am out of the picture. Tears fall from the gloomy skies, as the withering Pillar begins to shatter along with time. The once joyous breeze falls into grief, seeking freedom by the hilt of a dream once honored by faith. The same college with sandy shores and grassy valleys is where it starts and yet where it all ends. The hopes of a dream becoming a reality as the years' pass are lost in meaningless time and forgettable memories.
“I wonder how mother is doing?” lingering around aimlessly as I stare out into the vast flowing ocean, pondering as the wind's sorrows weep and wail throughout the sandy shore that gleams so bright. My spirit melts as waves crash with the melodious flow of the ocean.
“Why hello there sexy, pleasure seeing you here?” The voice came out of nowhere trying to make itself heard out of the blue but all too familiar.
“T-tu?” I stare at his feline face that is filled with curiosity. Somehow it daunts me, as there were signs that this place was one of the areas forbidden to go to. Yet he passed through, setting his feet onto the coarse shore behind the confined walls.
What should I do now? I ask myself, knowing that today was now or never, there was no point in hiding my secret, I show myself to my dear friend, answering his question. The cat is out of the bag, no point in turning back now.
“Y-yes Tu Its-”
“Wait. Why are you here?” A blush scatters throughout his face. I reluctantly gave him an answer.
“I could ask you the same thing?” I ignore the question in a not-so-subtle attempt of changing the topic.
As I explain everything to Tu, bit by bit, he starts to put the pieces together, and now as if his expression never changed, he looks unsure of the situation. I try to reassure him that it’s all delicate as flowers.
“Tu, you see now, but I am merely in a fragment of who I once as ; there’s nothing to be done now, but I’m glad that someone knows what happened, it sort of lightens my chest more than it is now,” I chuckle while I place my cold hand on his shoulder with a half-hearted smile on my face.
The wind's song slows down and birds call shatter, my life is no more so nothing matters, but as long as my Fires burn my soul will be free, the chains that bind me to the wall of eternity will break and shatter, let father time sits still watching itself run dry till the last spec of sand falls into thin air, no one knows what will come next when it all ends.
The wailing hues of the afternoon have gone by as we go our separate ways and days pass by. I roam the halls whilst the others start to arrive from their long expeditions. The dining hall never felt so alive with the constant chitter chatter of my friends unfolding stories of their adventures. I begin to listen. I hope that one day I will manage to make my way out into the world once again. Maybe next year.
As I close my eyes I allow the fond memories of my favorite novel to flow over me.
“One day I wish to feel the breeze of life beyond the walls before time is long gone from now till forever, but no matter how strong you are, we all do have one thing in common. That is we all have one life, and I’m not going to let you throw it away so easily.”- Rhogar
