How To SoFurry: a guide to navigating the new UI
Yo, actually these features slap! come take a look!
WE ARE SO BACK!
I've been futsing around with the new SF and I've seen a LOT that I like, so I thought I'd share some things I picked up to smoothen the onboarding process for others.
This is as much a call to action as it is a guide. I want this site to succeed for many reasons. SF was my first furry home back in 2015 and I've always resented how people abandoned it for FA when SF had features [folders, story uploader with working word processing, active chat room] that FA has only implemented as receently as, like, 2024. I want people to make this site as active as it was in the earlier days. SF has always valued and supported furry authors and it's time we've had a place to call home again.
People who are used to FurAffinity probably want to know where they can find their favorite creator's posts. The notifications are nice for immediate updates, but they are NOT like your submissions folder on FA. They are ephemeral and should not be relied on for keeping track of your favorite submissions.
The BROWSE feature is your friend here: if you want a chronological timeline of all submissions uploaded by people you follow, do the following:
Browse -> Sort By: Latest-> Add Filter -> Check "Only include results from users you follow" -> "₱ Apply Filters" [purple].
this gets you a chronological list of every upload from users you follow, just like FA
"Show Additional Info" [blue] means that the uploader's icon/username appears in the thumbnail
"Detailed View" [red] reorganizes all uploads as a vertical list. This lets you see thumbnails and read the description text at the same time.
"Advanced Search Parameters" [green] is where you can blacklist tags or blacklist submissions from people you have blocked.
The FEED tab is less complicated, it's just a chronilogical timeline where you can see status updates from people you follow. It can upload images including NSFW, replies, and can be reposted. This replaces journals, so if you want to post resources or something less ephemeral, I'd use the story uploader like I am. I think this is actually a great feature. I, and every creative I know, adores getting comments about our work, and this gives us an avenue to interact directly with the creators we follow as well as our friends.
Some general things I've noticed about uploading and such:
Submissions can now be in multiple folders at once. This wasn't possible on old SoFurry
As you can see, stories can now include images integrated direclty into the text. I'm using the chapter features as well, which separates the story into segments that can be jumped to via the description. The Anchor feature does similar things.
as a note, links do not work unless they're in the DESCRIPTION. links pasted into story text do not become hyperlinks and there's currently no way to add links in the story uploader.
You can filter galleries by art, stories, or music. You can also do the same with submissions in the BROWSE page.
The Mass Uploader is currently not reliable, in my experience. I've let the devs know but for now I'd rely on individual uploads or PostyBirb [once the site is supported by PB again]. I've got full faith the dev team will fix it. They have been active on here and else where responding to bug reports. As someone used to FA's proclivity to resting on its laurels, I'm looking forward to new upates.
