Trixie's Firey Performance

Trixie does a magic show for her friends and the Mane Six, wanting to show them her newest skill in her magical tricks, fire. But of course, sometimes one plays with fire at their own risk.

Note: Trixie isn't burnt in any serious manner, except her own pride.

This was a commission for TheFlameOfSorrows2 and was interesting for me since I've not really written something in which fire is treated both seriously and comedically, I've only really written it in a more serious manner, so trying to balance comedy with the seriousness of it was an interesting challenge for me.

Today was the day of her expanded performance, a first-time attempt at adding something, fire. Rather simple, of course, simply Flash paper, Trixie wasn’t a fool to jump straight to a more complicated trick. Besides, she needed to make sure it would work with the rest of her act, if it worked? Great, but if it didn’t or clashed with the rest of her act too much? Well, thankfully it was just for some close friends.

She quickly went over her planned tricks for this show, which were her tried and tested favorites, well mostly. Things like her chained box were obviously there, she couldn’t just leave her favorite classic out. Along with others like the saw trick, the numerous handkerchief tricks, and the like. Though, she had managed to convince Fluttershy to aid her in the tricks this one time. Give it some pizazz that she otherwise avoided due to her own limitations.

Once ready she made her way onto the stage, smaller than what she usually worked with, but still more than enough for her show. Using some of her smoke bombs to create a proper atmosphere for the opening before she walked onto the stage.

“Come and witness the magic of the Great and Powerful Trixie!” she stated.

With that she walked towards the front, leaving the curtains of the stage closed, only her silhouette seen by her audience from the lights which were shining against them. Taking a deep breath before she continued her introduction.

“Tonight, for your eyes only, the Great and Powerful Trixie will perform the greatest feats of magic one has ever seen!” she said.

With that she used her magic to pull the curtains open as she had another set of smoke bombs go off. Making sure to strike her iconic pose, one hoof in the air, head tilted upwards, all while her cape billowed behind her.

“For my first feat of magic, I will make use of the mystical vanishing cabinet, a powerful cabinet which can make even the least magical of Ponies vanish into thin air!” she said before she gestured to the left of the stage.

Once again using her magic she levitated the box out from the left side of the stage, making sure to not break focus on her pose or her magic until it was in exactly the middle of the stage. Quietly releasing her breath once it was exactly where she wanted it, lowering her hoof down as she let her magic go on the box.

“Is there anyone among you who is willing to dare such magic?” she asked the audience.

“Ooh! Me! Me!” Pinkie Pie shouted as she raised her hoof.

Trixie smiled at that, she had partially hoped it would be Pinkie Pie, the trick was simple but that also meant easy to have someone throw it off if they didn’t understand it. Pinkie Pie might not be a magician, but she certainly understood playing to, and for the crowd as a pony whose whole thing was about throwing parties.

“Then step right up my daring volunteer!” she said.

Not even a second after getting the words out of her mouth Pinkie was already beside Trixie. Bouncing up and down in place, she guided the excited Pony over to the box, using her magic to open the box up for Pinkie Pie to enter. Giving her a small nod and smile before she resumed.

“Now then, brave Volunteer, step inside the box,” she said to Pinkie Pie.

Pinkie Pie at that bounced into the box, though managed to still herself once she was in. Though the smile on her face never once broke, if anything it grew wider as she stood inside the box. Trixie gave her a small smile and nod before she turned back to the crowd.

“Now then, when I close the box the Pony inside will vanish without a trace,” Trixie told them.

With that she closed the box and tapped three times on it, waiting for a few seconds before she reached for the door. Opening the box open Pinkie Pie was nowhere to be seen, a wave of relief washed over her when Pinkie Pie wasn’t still in the front of the box.

“Witness, without even the slightest bit of Unicorn magic, she has vanished into thin air!” Trixie said as she

As she looked out at the audience, all of the Ponies who were in attendance were captivated, even Twilight Sparkle and Starlight Glimmer, who Trixie knew could actually teleport. A smile on her face as, unlike the first time she performed with the most of them in the audience, they all were properly enthralled.

“Now then, I will move this box so that we can see if a change in location might return our brave volunteer,” Trixie said.

Trixie levitated the box and moved it till it was at stage right, far enough to be easily removed later but not far enough to lose attention. Though Trixie was genuinely surprised at how light the box was, as if Pinkie Pie was no longer in the box. Trixie was sure she had to be, there wasn’t any back exit in this specific box, so unless she had truly vanished it was impossible… then again it was Pinkie who had volunteered.

Once the box was where she wanted it, she let the magic levitating it go, letting it gently fall onto the ground.

“Now then, will our brave volunteer return from where she went?” Trixie asked the audience.

Knocking three times Trixie stepped back and watched as Pinkie Pie bounced out of the box. Turning to the audience Trixie can see that the crowd was amazed at the trick and how well it was executed. Even Trixie was, to a degree, she wasn’t sure how but something about her stage magic senses was telling her Pinkie Pie had done more than simply use the trick screen.

“Can we give our brave volunteer a big round of applause?” Trixie asked the crowd.

At that, they all began to clap their hooves together, their amazement at the trick caused even a few, namely Applejack and Starburst, to cheer for the trick verbally. The sight of which caused a wave of relief to wash over Trixie, the little lingering doubt in her crowd’s enjoyment gone.

“Now then, for our next magic act, it is a test of the mind, the infamous locked rings!” Trixie announced.

With that she levitated out two rings that were not interlocked, though one with a minor illusion magic on it to appear solid, though a hole existed on one of the rings to allow for them to be locked together. Once in front of her she let it float closer to the ponies in the audience, to let them see the rings.

“Now then, as you can see that they are unlocked, I will now lock them together,” Trixie said before she put the two rings next to each other.

Pushing the two rings together where the hole was, Trixie interlocked the rings before spinning them a few times to make sure that the Ponies in front of her couldn’t easily spot how to move them to the right position. After which she pulled them to show that they are now locked together and not simply appearing to be so.

“Anyone dare to take on this magical puzzle?” Trixie asked the audience.

This time no one immediately raised their hooves at the chance to volunteer. One which didn’t surprise Trixie, the rings weren’t as exciting as the other tricks. Though she still hoped to perhaps give one of them a chance to try and solve it, most didn’t, but it would be nice to see one try.

“I think I’ll give it a go,” Twilight said.

“Could you come onto the stage and stand to my left?” Trixie asked her.

Twilight stood up and walked onto the stage giving a slight wave to her friends with a smile on her face as she did so. Trixie was glad that the Princess of Friendship had decided to be the one to try, though a part of her couldn’t get over a gnawing fear.

‘She might actually figure it out right away, which would ruin the performance,’ Trixie said.

“Now then,” Trixie said as she sat the rings down in front of Twilight, “pick them up and try to best them!”

Trixie watched as Twilight tried her best to figure out how to undo it or at least appeared to try. She did rotate them, yet never quite got it right. Even going so far as to go past the correct positions only to pull on them a second later. Which left Trixie feeling conflicted, on one hand this could simply be her not knowing how to do the trick… or her deliberately not solving it.

“Seems like I can’t figure it out today,” Twilight said.

At that Trixie heard some gasps from the audience, genuine gasps of shock. Even Trixie felt a bit confused, at least until Twilight gave her a wink as she turned to walk away.

‘She failed on purpose, to preserve the illusion,’ Trixie thought.

“Well, it seems that even an Alicorn is no match against these rings,” Trixie said, “though, perhaps she was closer than she thought?”

With that she slowly adjusted the rings, which were only a little bit away from the proper position, almost assuredly done deliberately by Twilight. With a single tug the two rings were no longer interlocked.

“Seems that our dear Princess was a bit too quick to tap out,” Trixie said, “perhaps next time she’ll be able to solve it.”

Trixie sat the rings to the side of the stage before she began to run through the acts in her head she could do.

‘Can’t use the canon, it’s still in my wagon… levitation takes too much time to prepare that I haven’t done… what could I do…,’ Trixie thought.

As she looked out over the crowd she struck down more and more ideas, some because she wanted to avoid bringing up the same ponies as before, and others because she could quickly tell that it wouldn’t be part of the audience’s preferences.

‘Perhaps a good old fashioned ‘cut in half’ trick? I would need an assistant to help me… though,’ Trixie thought.

“Now then, I will call upon my lovely assistant Fluttershy for this next trick,” Trixie announced.

At that she turned and held her hoof out to welcome Fluttershy onto the stage, though the Pegasus hesitated. Pausing before she walked out onto the stage.

‘Sorry Fluttershy, but I can’t stall for much longer,’ Trixie thought as she noticed Fluttershy’s legs shaking.

“My lovely assistant will help me with this next trick,” Trixie said, “she will cut me in half!”

“Huh?!” Fluttershy said, eyes widened.

Using her magic once again Trixie began to wheel out the box, prepared for usage beforehand. The part of the box where her lower half is supposed to be inserted already equipped with a carefully designed duplicate. Only needing her to push it into place for the trick to work.

“I will enter the box, and then, once I am in place, she will saw me straight down the middle of the box!” Trixie said.

Not giving Fluttershy a chance to protest Trixie entered the box, climbing into it before laying down. Using her back hoofs to push the fake legs out the holes at the end. Giving her a nod once she had gotten her hoofs back into the proper place for the illusion to work.

Fluttershy at that grabbed the saw, hoof shook as she did so causing the saw to wobble back and forth. Her nervousness was clear to Trixie, and likely the crowd, realizing that Trixie tried to comfort Fluttershy.

“It’s okay Fluttershy,” Trixie whispered.

Fluttershy took a breath to try, albeit unsuccessfully, to calm her nerves before she started the task. Slowly cutting down the center of the box, doing her best to not accidentally move the saw sideways from her nerves. Trixie was tempted to play it up but pushed the thought aside with how panicked Fluttershy was already acting.

Once Fluttershy finished ‘cutting’ through the center of the box Trixie glanced at her and gave a small smile and a nod. With that Fluttershy pushed the two parts of the box apart, to show that she had split Trixie in half.

“As you can see, my brilliant assistant has cut me in half,” Trixie said as she turned her head to look at the crowd.

As she looked out to the crowd, she saw that most of them were in some state of surprise, some closer to shock, others closer to amazement. Though, Trixie couldn’t quite tell if that was because of Fluttershy being on the stage and being anxious, or because of the act itself.

‘I really probably shouldn’t have put this on Fluttershy so suddenly,’ Trixie thought.

“Now then, my dear assistant, could you push the two boxes together to reunite my two halves?” Trixie asked Fluttershy.

At that Fluttershy rushed, grabbing both of the ends of the box before pulling them together. Doing it in such a manner that the two sides ended up bouncing apart for a moment when they collided which jostled Trixie. Though, Fluttershy quickly pulled the two back together, gentler this time so that the magnets connected the two.

“Now, will I be rejoined together, or am I forever stuck apart?” Trixie asked the audience.

At that she pushed on the panel separating the two sides, causing the middle to push against the false hooves momentarily pushing them further out. Only for them to be pulled back inwards once she pulled her actual hind hooves back. Lifting the top of the boxes she paused before she sat up, before lifting her hind hoof into the air.

“I am whole!” she shouted.

At that the audience clapped, though there was an obvious undercurrent of unease from the trick. Jumping out from the box, Trixie gave a bow before she turned towards Fluttershy, lifting her hoof towards the pony.

“Now, can we give Fluttershy a round of applause for her bravery in helping me attempt the trick!” Trixie said.

The response to that was louder, not hiding their pride in the pony having pushed herself out of her comfort zone. The clapping actually got loud enough that Trixie actually saw Fluttershy blush as the crowd clapped for her.

“Thank you, brave assistant,” Trixie said, “if you wish you can leave the stage.”

Barely a second had passed before Fluttershy was walking towards the left side of the stage. Clear that she was barely able to keep herself from galloping off the stage, to get out from the gaze of the crowd.

‘Better wrap this up so that I can apologize,’ Trixie thought.

“Now, for the final act, I will use fire to turn paper into butterflies!” Trixie announced.

She levitated five pieces of flash paper out from the left side of the stage till they were behind her. Making sure that the magic was only on the paper, and not on the butterflies that were riding on the back of the paper. Once in the right position for the trick she lowered them down closer to the ground.

“Now then, be amazed by the power of fire!” Trixie said before she lit them.

Once lit she used her magic to toss the pieces of flash paper forwards. Their short lifespan meant to give the butterflies the proper help meant the papers had to move fast. Though she quickly noticed something off, both visually and from something hitting her.

‘There is only on-’ ran through her mind before the pain registered.

A burning sensation that was firmly located on her butt suddenly became all her mind would focus on. As she turned her head to see what had happened, she noticed four butterflies behind her fluttering in the air. Looking down to examine herself she noticed that the flash paper had lit directly behind her rather than in front of her, which had let the embers which lasted only a few seconds, hit her. The embers caused a small fire that while not enough to leave permanent damage, was more than enough to take full attention of Trixie.

“Hot! Hot! HOT!” she said.

Breaking character Trixie began to try to put out the small fire on her buttocks, at first she started with simply stamping it out using her hoofs. Though with the flame located directly on her buttocks, her hooves were unable to reach far enough to allow her to stamp it out. Her mind immediately came up with another idea to try to put the fire out, albeit a more embarrassing one. Trying to simply stamp it out on the ground.

“Go out! Go out! GO OUT!” she said as she slammed her ass onto the floor.

It quickly dawned on her that there nothing she had on stage would be able to put out the fire. At which point she tried to get off the stage as quickly as she could. Though she tried her best to not further aggravate the pain that the flames had caused, even if the fires themselves only lasted a few seconds. Barely able to make it to the side before she simply leapt off the stage itself and started to look around. Eyes darted around the room to try and find something to cool the pain she was feeling from her buttocks.

Her eyes landed on the tub filled with ice and bottles of Sweet Apple Acres apple cider that applejack had brought. Refreshments for during and after the show, which her mind now registered as the only possible solution.

‘Cold, cold cools heat’ she thought.

She ran to the tub and jumped into it; a sigh of relief escaped her as the heat from the burn was replaced with the coolness of the melted ice.

“I assume the last act didn’t go as planned?” Twilight asked her.

“No, Twilight, it didn’t go as planned,” Trixie said.

“Hey she jus-” Applejack said before she was cut off.

“It’s okay Applejack, she probably snapped because of the pain,” Twilight said, to which Trixie gave a nod.

Trixie looked behind them to spot Fluttershy who was still near the curtain to the side of the stage. Trixie slowly made her way towards her, a slight grimace as she tried to ignore the pain. Though, it seemed that Fluttershy thought it was aimed at her as she flinched when Trixie reached her.

“I’m sorry,” Trixie said, “I not only forced you onto the stage, but didn’t give you any time to check to make sure the butterflies were still on the right papers.”

“Thank you,” Fluttershy said, “though… are you okay?”

“I will be, though I’ll probably be a bit sore… not going to include fire again though… not like that at least,” Trixie said.
