Tale of the Hound
Here we have a short story I came up with in 2021 and I hope you like it^^
I recommend reading this short story before checking this link out but it is the being that appears in the short story with a brief description and also game stats so that the monster can be used in the 7th edition of the Call of Cthulhu rpg game, I have been meaning to go back and see if I can tweak the stats but to be honest I haven't looked at the game since then and to be honest I haven't played any games with it but wanted to try to make something. Plus I have been meaning to expand the being lore and things like that, but it has been something I put on the back burner.

Authors Note: Hiya everyone, I made this short story up back in 2021 and I have decided to no longer have it be a DA exclusive. I fixed a few errors here and there before posting it to my SF and FA.^^ I have dabbled with horror here and there but I decided to really improvise and try my best with this one given at the time, I do hope you like it, plus I have something cool to share in the decription to boot.

"The Allies have broken the wall to the west, with the Russian's closing from the east... I fear the war is nearing it's end. That now I march onward to only one outcome, death onto a fools errand. We are moving west to reinforce one of the Panzer Divisions, though we may be too late."

The sound of half a dozen half tracks labored engines grind us forward with a panzerwagen at the front and one at the back, the french countryside giving us a cloudy day, at glance the emblem of our unit is bared on our helmets, the symbol of an iron lupus with it's teeth ready to strike, we still look to it with pride but our faith has been shaken. The weapon I hold is an mp40 that has seen better days, octopus oil has it's body stained as supplies have been drained for months, a thunderous boom strikes with the vehicles coming to a stop. We at the back think we are under attack and so we brace ourselves for an assault, the moments tick but no gunfire erupts and no cries call out.
We hear our commanding officer shout out, we emerge and we see that a large tree had fallen and is now blocking our path, a navigator pulls out a map and I can see him scanning it, but then a few more crashes come, two more trees had fallen behind us, blocking us in. Nearby is a small town, that looks abandoned but it looks like it's been deserted for decades as it looks pathetic compared to the mighty armor that continues to rumble, the sound of gunfire finally comes, allied planes of the british come wailing down, their guns firing and hitting many of our men, screams are finally given as we try to cover ourselves behind the armor.
"The field hospital we've been able to set up is trying to cater to them, but most of our medics are dead and already a third of us are a loss, ether wounded or dead. The town itself is strange, there aren't any signs of electricity, vehicles or even plumbing and yet we are at the middle of France almost... I wonder what happened here to warrant such a thing. The latest paper we can find reads the date 'February 13th 1867' and there are painted words on the sides of some of the buildings, we can't even read them as they are written badly, those we can read are only one word... Louve. I am kerfuffled to say the least."

The town only numbers a couple dozen buildings, some have caved in, some have become ravaged by rot... but all bare marks that can't be made out as shattered glass glimmers from an age long past. Despite the best efforts of the engineers and the panzers raw power, there is no way out but the roads they know, on order the panzer out front fires a high-explosive shell, obliterating the tree out in front, but another tree falls and once again the road is closed. For a brief moment I see movement just beyond the trees, but I pass it off as just my mind wandering, I pass the commanding officers tent and I hear that radio just stops, the music dying instantly as the generator continues to run. In fact all our radios have stopped working at this vary moment, so now we must make camp here for now until we can find a way out.
A foothold is established and patrols are sorted out, I'm stationed at what looks to have been a school but it's all rotted away but it's close to the center where one of the panzers is on over watch, a comfort to say the least. Time slowly creeps by, but the afternoon makes it's way in though the clouds have shifted from white to grey and it seems that everyone is getting more and more tense. Being relieved i head to the church which has become our barracks as it's the most solid structure, but some of the others look disturbed as if something has spooked them. It turns out that were investigating the lower levels and discovered something... something I would come to regret seeing myself in time. The entrance to that area is guarded by two Waffen SS soldiers armed with the venerated mp28 due to shortages and their normally well-kept uniforms are filthy and they look like they got into a couple of brawls as they are bruised with one of them even having his eye blackened.
A look out the windows shows that the clouds are becoming black, but not in a natural way, it's almost like watch spilled ink flowing on paper, sweeping through the grey and white of the clouds as the sky maintains it's slowly setting sun, I lay on a bunk, I swear I see something move across the ceiling but it's so dark I can't tell and I just pass it off as a bat or a trapped bird.
"The atmosphere is shifting radically, this morning we were ready to be sent to our graves in combat, but there is something going on here. Someone from a patrol in the woods came back, gibbering something we couldn't understand, his clothes were ragged as if an animal had attacked him, he then proceeded to attack our officer and grabbed his handgun and killed himself right on the spot. I fear we are being hunted, but by what I do not know. If the basement holds a clue, maybe I can get in there."

A loud boom sounds in the late night hours, we all jump and grab our gear as weapons fire and orders are being sounded, the SS soldiers quickly run out, seeing my chance I ran trough the doors to see if maybe I can find a clue to recent events, the steps hold over a centuries worth of dust as it's kind of hard to breath. A set of reinforced steel doors lies ahead, on them is the fleur de lis in gold. I cautiously open the door to see something unreal. The room is large, big enough to fit a panzer division with spare parts and ammunition with room to spare. A chandelier hangs, the metal is silver with lunar symbols and a large sapphire glows an eerie blue, the floor has symbols carved into it, I can't make any of them out but they seem to be filled with a light layer of water, but under the sapphire is a circle with a large diamond with a large circumference. In the center of the diamond are symbols made of silver that are embedded into it, it looks to be phases of the moon but I am not sure.
I get close to the strange set up and instantly I feel ill, my body shudders as I feel my mind shake as if I'm suddenly being depraved of air. I jump back and within a few moments I regain myself but now I feel like something felt me and I felt it... for a moment I saw a pair of eyes looking at me from somewhere. Deciding to make a run for it I run back up, I hear loud roars as gunfire continues. I feel my mind being ravaged once more as I drop to my knee, I drag myself to the entrence but the gunfire finally stops with screams ending a few moments later, with my gun ready I slowly leave the church to a horrific sight, broken bodies are littered about, the half tracks look to have been thrown around like toys as one has been tossed into a building, another is upside down, another is crushed, two look to have been crashed together and the last is resting on top of now ruined panzer. A chilling howl takes the air, I become frozen as a black, ghostly form comes around a corner, it looks to me with these red eyes that look as deadly as any weapon, it slowly begins to roam towards me as I hear a growl.
The form is hard overall make out but it's slightly bigger then our Tiger 2 and while it is hard to see I can paws that are nearly as big as a man, a loud boom sounds and a shell goes through the creature and destroys one of the old buildings, I look to see a mk 4with it's maingun smoking and it's machine guns begin to spray their bullets. The creatures roars at the warmachine, in a moment it charges and crushes the fatherlands core armor, ripping chunks of it off as screams from the crew and fire from sidearms make their sound.
I grab a nearby panzerfaust and I get ready to make my stand as the creature slowly looks to me, I can my mind slipping as I try to focus, but I think back to that room, maybe it has something to do with this thing, I quickly run back into the church, I glance back to see the creature smash through the front of the building, I run down the steps as fast as I can, the creature is almost on top of me, but I fire the launcher, striking the sapphire and it comes crashing down, blue energy releases from the jewels, lighting the entire room up as I fall. I fire my mp40 at the creature as it slowly comes towards me, now I see it, it's in the vague shape of a wolf, it's fur as black as the night sky as lunar symbols glow in faint moonstone, it's teeth shimmer like polished steel, I run out of ammunition, the creature roars and leaps at me as I scream in horror and close my eyes.
The next thing I know, I'm being restrained by an allied nurse and a couple american soldiers, when it had finally sunk in I was in Paris... a liberated Paris, in fact France itself was no longer under the sway of the German army. I asked the allies if they can take me to where I had encountered the beast and that my comrades needed to be buried, my claims were dismissed as the town I told them about simply didn't exist with even those who have traveled all over France dismissing my claim. When the war was over I made my way to where the town was and there was nothing there, just a stretch of road no one had used in a long time that was overgrown. Everyone looked to my report as if I was a madman and that my comrades were simply missing in action or that they deserted me with their equipment. I know what I saw... I know what I felt... we encountered something.
With Germany now cut in half I had moved to western boarder of the ruined nation, I splash my face with some water, I suddenly hear a familiar sound... a growl. I slowly look up and I see two red eyes and a black form in the mirror, I panic as I slowly start to back up, a feminine cackle starts to come from the mirror. I get out of the bathroom and close the door as I made ready to call the police, but the phone is dead and the lights suddenly go out. Falling onto the couch as the creatures red eyes phase from the bathroom door, the sound of it's paws now manifest, the being pins me down with one of it's paws as I feel my mind start to tear itself apart, it's eyes interlocked with mine. I blink and the lights are back on and the being is nowhere to be seen as I check everywhere.
"I know how this going to sound, maybe I have gone mad, or maybe not... I can't tell anymore. I remember everything from the town up to now, this being, this... wolf, it is no normal being. It prowls and hunts, what it wants I don't know, but I think it maybe stalking me. I will not give it the satisfaction of it killing me by it's paws and thus I will tell you what told me. It thanked me for freeing it, releasing it from it's trapped plane from almost a century ago, it had feed on the souls of those it had slain and it was more then eager to delve into our world. This creature even told me it's name, it's title... Voe'kazkra the Queen of the Wolves."
