On planet Earth, several forms of life existed unbeknownst to the universe.

From the smallest bacteria and blade of grass to the largest elephant and whale, life existed.

However, most of it moves on, like cogs in a machine, not caring about anything other than survival and reproduction until the creature's death.

That is, for unintelligent life, anyways.

Intelligent life however, did more than just survive.

The beings, with their intellect, found solutions to problems they had with living that those not gifted with it could ever have.

They created shelters to survive against the elements, hostile wildlife, and unwanted invaders, protecting them against the harm, illnesses, and other horrors that could either claim their life, or the life of anyone else inside.

They created objects that could not only assist in the daily lives of all intelligent beings, but save them as well. Medicines, beds, objects that can create light, clothes, tools, among many others were created out of the environment around them, creating a balance of utilizing the world's natural resources to create wonders to benefit the collective.

Most importantly of all, they developed a conscience. With this conscience, they were easily above nonintelligent beings.

They made communication more streamlined, allowing sounds to be weaved into coherent, universal sounds others could understand an interpret, calling it a "language".

They created a collective to increase chances of survival for not only themselves, but for their future generations in what is called a "society".

These beings created a whole new world to understand and to live in. Systems were created to bring order to these societies, issuing roles to the individual to assist the collective, creating a "hierarchy" and a stable and safe system of living.

As a product of this conscience, these being gained what separated them from themselves and primal beasts more than anything else.

Emotions.

These beings gained increased feelings from everyday life in the world around them.

They became "happy" when filled with a positive feeling.

They "laughed" when this feeling of "happiness" was large and overwhelming.

They became "sad" when something terrible has happened being filled with negative feeling of hopelessness.

They became "angry" when they used negative feeling in the other polar extreme, lashing out at the world around them in violence.

They gained "fear" when they approach something that is against their life and being unable to control it.

They gained other emotions as well, such as "disgust", such as when they become appalled or offended by something, or "pleasure", feelings of calmness as a result sensations from in or out of the body.

In a complex fashion, all intelligent creatures had this conscience and different versions of it.

One creature could feel afraid of one thing while another could enjoy it.

One creature could feel sad in a situation another would grow angry.

One creature could feel pleasure in something another would also be pleased by.

However, not all of the gift of consciousness and intelligence could be considered positive.

With intelligence, a minority of these creatures created not objects or actions to benefit the whole, but to harm it while benefiting only the individual. Weapons were created to inflict harm or even kill others, intending to endanger the society. Intelligence also led to cunning to find more ways and inventions to harm the collective. Even with roles within the society to deal with these types of creatures, this led to more creations to handle them which only reduced the problem, not solving it.

Emotions, if not kept in check, could also cause these creatures to act irrational, performing actions that could also harm the society, regardless of intentions.

This created strengths and flaws in these creatures, causing them to look towards to endless sea of stars and pray to a "deity" to improve the world around them.

These gifts and faults could only be shared by the two sapient species of Earth.

Dragonkind and Humanity.

Dragons were large, quadruped, tailed, lizard-like creatures who gained this intelligence with Humanity.

Their skin was covered with leather like plates called scales that naturally protected them from the environment more than any other organism.

Their strength, endurance, energy, and sheer senses increased their survivability more, making them more powerful than any other.

They also not only excelled on land but in the sky as well, as all dragons are born and hatched from eggs to sail the heavens with massive, leathery wings at incredibly high speeds as a result.

Dragons, however, had a fatal flaw.

Their bodies and their instincts.

Dragons, despite being rational, can be swayed easily by instincts, and, combined with their sheer raw power, they became easily the most destructive beings on the planet, and possibly in existence.

Dragonkind, despite their intelligence, could not use it because of their bodies. They could not create anything physically due to the claws on their paws not allowing them to grasp onto objects, preventing creativity to creating inventions to benefit the collective.

There were four types of dragons.

One of Fire to create everlasting flames and to live in the ashen earth filled with searing heat to create such a warmth for others in the presence of the cold.

One of Earth to feel the planet itself and create fertile ground to grow food in an organized matter, living in the mountains, plains and forests.

One of Ice to brave the cold, barren wastes as one of the best survivors of the planet, offering solace and aid from the burning flame.

One of Electricity to control the weather at least partially to aid the creatures in their crops, plants, shelters, and improving the days and nights of all.

Several lost races of Dragonkind have been pushed out of the food chain due to not being as beneficial to society as the others or becoming more dangerous and killed off as a result, becoming extinct or living in incredibly low, insignificant numbers. How did the forgotten species of dragons come to be? Some were coincidental from the effect of irreversible mutations in their genetic code, an adaptation that they gained over the centuries, became hybrids of two of the draconic races, or was created through more...unnatural ways. Although, due to their small amounts of members, that didn't matter, as they fell regardless.

While they are all unique in their own ways, they succumb to the same successes and failures as the rest.

The other species were the humans, biped, ape-like beings with fur or "hair" on parts to shield from the cold and soft, fragile skin.

Unlike dragons, they had to rely on their environment more compared to them in terms of survival, shelter, food, and protection, hence why they have a gift that Dragonkind doesn't possess.

That being the ability to take advantage of their intelligence.

Humans have digits on their two hands called "fingers" with a "thumb" on each. These appendages allowed them to manipulate the world around them in ways dragons couldn't. They were also gifted a unique curiosity with their dexterity, and in turn, creativity.

This allowed them to think and solve problems in ways all creatures, even the dragons, could not fathom, let alone understand. Humanity could think outside of the box ending seemingly endless issues and could create object and structures no other being could come up with. They became hungry for knowledge in not only better ways to tackle survival, but of the world around them. This allowed them arguably more survivability and power in ways unknown to the only other intelligent and sapient beings, Dragonkind.

However, this great intellect and creativity was counterbalanced by a flaw that is the exact opposite of Dragonkind's.

Humanity, despite their power in terms of intellect, still had frail bodies. This made so, unless they were isolated, could easily become oppressed and battered, taking pain and dying far easily compared to nearly all other creatures.

Humanity also relied heavily on the environment around them. A dragon could make anyplace a shelter, but a human couldn't. They need the world around them to create a living for themselves. They also needed a currency which is impossible to exchange or get back once lost, being time. Time was needed for humanity to express their ability to solve the unsolvable and to create such great wonders. When all of the tools, materials, and time in the world are taken away, humanity's gift is worthless.

Humanity as a physical presence in society also has the inverse of Dragonkind's. While dragons were brutal and had the most raw power and strength of any being, Humanity was endlessly cunning and sly. Able to utilize their intelligence for not only escaping persecution for wrongdoings, they could also devise the most heinous and secretive of crimes, capable to do the unthinkable and somehow slither their way out of detection all within the shadows.

With these flaws, Dragonkind and Humanity were created to not only create and shape Earth, but to counter set the other. Dragonkind could provide protection, travel, food, and companionship to the humans, who can create objects to make the lives of all easier and happier with their boundless imagination. On the other hand, Dragonkind could destroy everything with their unbridled power, along with humanity being able to conjure up weapons and tools that could do so as well. The two could either bring forth a world of perpetual and limitless harmony, or bring death and destruction not only to themselves, but the world as well.

And so, the stage is set.

One species of great power from nature.

One of great intelligence and creativity.

One world against the backdrop of the endless universe.

These two, together yet divided, would set the fate of the world into motion, either towards peace or judgement day.......
