“Damn it… where the hell is her soul…” Nightmare thought to herself, swooping through the light of the morning skies as she tried to track down the soul of her sister, another draconic beast that was locked away in the body of a human for generations. Time was running short, which wasn’t helping matters - she had to free her from her human shell before the summer solstice, and she only had until noon of that day to free her, otherwise she’d have to wait another thousand years to be able to release her.

It didn’t help that her sister had a more explosive temperament, and wasn’t exactly one to bond with those who weren’t either family, friends, or a potential partner. Nightmare had gotten lucky by bonding with the human she ascended from, and she was going to be damned if she had to wait another millennium to have another shot at this.

“I’m not just gonna sit around for 1,000 years if I miss the cut-off time…”

Meanwhile, down below, a lone human was wandering around the streets, idly mumbling to herself as she kicked an empty can halfway down the street. There were other people around, but they were few and far between, either busy at work or school, or flitting in and out of shops.

“Man, this sucks…” She sighed to herself, giving the can another kick as she approached it. “I swear this week has been a complete and utter mess!” She dwelled on the events of the last few days - between having a few arguments with random jerks and suffering some misfortunes in regards to stuff she had planned, her mood was fairly low. To say she felt like punching the lights out of the next person who dared to cross her path was putting it politely.

“Hrm…?” Nightmare paused, stopping in place as she took a look around her. For a moment, she felt a familiar spark of anger, one which was subdued. “It couldn’t be, could it?”

The human gave the can another kick, causing it to bounce off of the nearest wall. Again, the dragon in the sky felt that spark flare up again, her gaze casting downwards. She saw the human walking along the sidewalk, seeing a faint, glowing aura around her. “Sister… it looks like I’ve found you~” A devious grin crossed her maw as she swooped downwards.

“If things don’t start getting better any time soon, I’m really gonna blow a fuse!” She scowled, throwing her head up to the sky, eyes immediately going wide when she caught sight of the massive dragon diving towards her. “WHAT THE FU-” A clawed hand grasped her tight, yanking her off her feet before she could even finish her cursing. “MMPH!!”

“I wouldn’t think of trying to struggle free, human. Just be a good girl and stay in place until I take you somewhere quiet!”

“Let go of me, you overgrown lizard!” She attempted to bite down on one of the creature’s digits to no avail, the scales as hard as diamond. “Ack, why did I do that?!” She recoiled in pain.

“Just relax, we’ll be touching down soon!” Nightmare giggled, setting her sights on a quiet field, touching down upon it. The human wriggled free from her claws, rolling onto her back as she looked up at her captor.

“What… what even ARE you?” She gawked.

“Isn’t it obvious? I’m a dragon, sweetie~” She laughed, circling around the human. “You can call me Nightmare Moon, or simply Nightmare!”

“This is all some kind of trick, right?” She asked. “Dragons aren’t real!”

Nightmare didn’t say anything, instead opting to poke her in the chest with her tail, knocking the wind out of her.

“Ack!” She fell to the ground.

“I think that should put those doubts at ease - I would have pinched you with my claws, but I don’t want to risk skewering you on them!”

“Damn it…” She winced. “OK, I guess you are real… the name’s Alicea.” She got back to her feet. “Just why have you kidnapped me?”

“That’s an easy question to answer - your body holds the spirit of my sister, and she’s been locked in you and your descendents for the past thousand years. I’m running out of time to free her, so I’m having to take a more direct method to freeing her!”

“Direct? You’re not gonna try anything sexual to free her, are you?”

Nightmare’s face scrunched up into a look of pure bafflement and shock. “EXCUSE me?! I love my sister, but not in THAT way! What is wrong with you humans?!”

“Well, I mean, I’ve read a lot of stories online, and a whole lot of them tend to have the humanity screwed out of them, so…”

“Again. She’s my SISTER.” The dragon glared at her. “Be thankful you’re housing her spirit, otherwise I might have had to punish you for that…”

“Ok, ok, sorry!” Alicia shrugged. “But are you sure you’ve got the right person for this?”

“Oh yeah, I can sense her anger burning inside of you… I’m honestly surprised the two of you haven’t bonded already, but at the same time, she wasn’t the biggest fan of humans, among other things. Daybreaker always was a stubborn gal!”

“Daybreaker? That doesn’t sound like a name you’d want to mess with!” Alicia commented.

“Heh… if anyone did anything to get on her bad side, they’d be flash-fried on the spot, that’s how explosive her temper was!” Nightmare purred. “I bet she… and by extension, you… would love to vent some of that fury on the idiots that inhabit this world, but I’m running out of time to do so - I’ve only got a few hours to bring her out, otherwise I’m gonna be waiting another thousand years for a second chance, and I’m pretty sure she’s not going to want to wait that long!”

“And how exactly are you going to free her?”

“That’s easy~” Nightmare extended a claw, a magical aura swirling around it. “I’ve got a few spells in my arsenal that are designed at freeing caged beasts that reside in human prisons. Daybreaker is a special case, so I’ve had to work on one that was strong enough to free her in the event that she had been unable to bond with her human, which would be you!”

“Right… and what do I get out of this? I’m not going to die or anything, am I?”

“Die? Not at all! You’ll be a part of my sister, just like the human I ascended from is a part of me. Hell, we’re both in control here!”

“Huh… so you’re offering me the chance to be a dragon, there’s no apparent downsides, and you need to do this to be reunited with your sister?”

“Pretty much right in one!” Nightmare nodded. “You get to become a powerful dragoness, my sister is freed, the two of you share the same body, it’s a win-win situation!”

“But what if I was to refuse that offer?” Alicia wanted to see what the dragon’s response would be.

“Would you REALLY want to deny me the chance to be reunited with my dear sister? Would you really want to see how pissed off I could get?” Her eyes narrowed, glowing with malice. “My temper might not match hers, but I’ll make you regret the day you were born if you were to get on my bad side!”

A chill ran down Alicia’s spine, the human gulping. “Right, right… I don’t think I wanna do that, no!”

“Good, then it seems that we’re in agreement!” Her expression lightened up. “Now I hope you don’t need to do any mental preperations or need to inform anyone of your soon-to-be-permanent absence, as time is against us!”

“No, I think I’m good to go right now!” Alicia responded.

“Perfect! Now, this might feel a bit strange at first, but trust me, you’ll grow to love it before too long!” Nightmare pressed her claw firmly against the human’s chest, the magical aura flowing into her body. The fiery spirit of the dragoness inside her reacted to the spell, a voice calling out.

‘Finally… It’s been too damn long since I’ve had a chance to spread my wings!’

A tremble ran through Alicia’s body as she sank down to one knee, the skin along her arms drying up and flaking away, pure-white scales revealing themselves underneath. She watched the scales spreading across her limbs, which in turn grew longer, fingers stretching as golden claws grew through her fingernails.

“Woah… I was kind of expecting this to take a little bit longer for anything to happen!” Alicia commented, the scales spreading around her torso. Her clothing was stretching tight against her growing body, her breasts receding into her chest whilst it barrelled forwards, her overall form becoming more slender.

“My sister was never one for wanting to wait around for these things to play out, otherwise the changes would probably take a little bit longer. Still, it’s an experience nonetheless!” Nightmare told her, watching the human grow out of her shirt. Her lower body was next, fiery orange scales working their way around the sides of her legs and hind quarters, shifting back to white along the rest of the legs. Along the outside of her thigh, a vibrant mark appeared, depicting the sun, complementing the moon that rested on Nightmare’s hind legs.

“I see… that’s kind of a shame, I would have loved to see this happen a little more drawn out!” Alicia took a good look at her scaly torso, running her claws along them. The shorts she was wearing shredded across her muscled thighs, a bump pressing against the base of her spine, the sudden pressure causing her to drop down to all fours, hips clicking and realigning in the process, allowing her to adapt to bipedal and quadrupedal movement.

“I’m sure a lot of people would enjoy that, it’s just a shame she’s not the type to take her time with things. That temper has caused more than a few issues, after all!” The dragoness laughed, a long, serpentine tail breaking free from the base of her spine, whipping at the ground as it was covered in muscle and scales. The scales that protected it were a mix of yellow hues, making it look like the tail itself was covered in all-consuming fire. Even the fan-like frills that sprouted around the tip of it added to that look, with the exception that it actually WAS engulfed in a flaming aura.

“Heh, this thing looks absolutely lethal!” Alicea giggled, swaying it around behind her, watching the flames trail along with it. Her feet were stretching, toes growing longer, excluding the big toe which shrank away, deadly curving talons replacing her weak toenails. “Wonder how much damage I’ll be able to cause with it?”

“Knowing Daybreaker, probably a lot!” Nightmare giggled, Alicia having to arch her back as another growing pressure developed in her shoulders. A low groan left her mouth, shifting into a monstrous snarl as a pair of giant wings burst free, the webbing that lined each ‘finger’ a soft pink on the top half, and fiery orange on the lower half, the flame-like details and colors spreading to the lower parts of the wings as well.

Alicea gave them a tentative flap, scattering a few leaves here and there as her neck stretched longer, carrying her head away from her shoulders. Her hair receded into the scales, replaced with a row of sharp orange spikes, running all the way down towards the base of her neck, a spiky frill lining the underside.

“How are you feeling?” Nightmare asked, seeing the human’s face stretching forwards into a long, reptillian muzzle, teeth shifting into razor-sharp fangs. A pair of orange horns emerged from atop her head, ears reforming into elegant frills that lined the sides of her head. Her tongue flickered through her fangs, long and forked, eyes moving to the sides of her head, sclera turning a burnt red whilst the irises became a fiery yellow, pupils pulling into thin slits to end the changes.

“Rrgghh… like I’ve been stuck in a cage for way too long… I mean I was, but…” Alicea spoke, her voice sounding naturally deeper and sinister.

“That’s to be expected. You really made me work to free you, sister~” Nightmare purred, looking over the new dragoness. “You weren’t purposely trying to make me wait another thousand years to see you, were you?”

“No, but it’s not my fault if I didn’t see any reasons to bond with the human!” She hissed.

“Considering the two of you were more alike than you’d like to think, I find that VERY hard to believe!” Nightmare nudged her sister’s side.

“Ugh…” Daybreaker/Alicea rolled her eyes. “Fine, maybe I just didn’t think they were worthy enough. I don’t have much of a say in the matter when you use that little spell of yours, though!”

“Worthy or not, that’s no excuse to keep yourself sealed away for another millennium!” Nightmare told her. “The human accepted it willingly as well, I think you just need to work a little more on not being so stubborn!”

“Whatever you say!” Daybreaker rolled her eyes. “Anyways, where’s a place around here where a gal can get some food? It’s been too long since I’ve had something char-broiled!”

“Oh, I might know a few places~” Nightmare grinned - there was no shortage of cities or farms to pick from, but all they needed to do was settle on where to go first.
