A Trinket… For A Minute’s Consideration?
So I mentioned in the description when I first posted this poem that it’s an evergreen subject and that stands even if it’s not something that’s exactly happened to me. The subject is being let go and stressed out/unappreciated at work. My job is still currently fine for now but as said this is more of a general, kind of impersonal piece if that makes sense. A Trinket… For A Minutes Consideration?

The value of many years of work
Is something they consider only when it makes profits stay high and things go smooth
Even when it hasn't been long but you do a lot and they let you go in a way that'll irk
Treating it so inevitably and casually not even trying to soothe
The burning sting of being laid off or fired as they let you go
All those years where you gave them so much of your time and gave them your all
But you're still at the mercy of the corporate ladder especially by those seeking to grow
Meaning someone else's relentless climb to the top can also be your unfair fall
Plus they can be not only below but above as they cause stress to build
And good days at work become harder to recall
Till we're back at the job letting you go with probably feeling relieved yet unfulfilled
As there's so much of your life that'll have to be rebuilt, remade
For your troubles you'll be left with your awards and accolades
And probably not even severance
Thinking about all praise and awards you got that never came with a raise
Now you've got to figure out what next to do
All these years and they force you to bounce back now
With whatever experience and money you've got left and all the keepsakes they gave you
