The Depths of Perceived Echoes
At last I’ve reached it, the last thing in my backlog. Which really is just the most recent poem I’ve posted. Wrote this at a time when I was seeing a lot of talk about echo chambers and it’s also a topic that crosses my mind from time to time. Thus I wrote a vent poem on a topic that doesn’t feel like it’ll be put to bed anytime too soon. This felt like a return to form for me in terms of the speed I finished it among other things. Originally posted in November 2024. With this posted my backlog is complete meaning from here on out what I post will be new stuff that admittedly will lack my musings from hindsight and
the way I’ve looked back on my work here but instead it’ll be fresh insights and new stuff going forward. Thanks for sticking around or reading for the first time, whichever it is.
The Depths of Perceived Echoes
By:A.X. Bueno
To be afraid of echoes and the chambers that reverberate them is a luxury I wish I had
I see those who’ll complain about them here and there and how they’re just so bad
How much they should be avoided by letting in those they disagree with no matter the cost
And yet they’ll proudly proclaim those who disagree with them mentally ill or lost
It’s usually the same kind of people too
And sure it may not be all the time
But even if it’s not they’ll make it seem like not listening to them is some kind of crime
One way or another to dismiss the polar opposite of you is some kind of declaration of war
And they try to win it with attrition it feels like and come across as a total bore
For they act like their ideas are so important and haven’t been heard before
Truth spouters who have been silenced and yet they never really go away
I promise them we’ve heard it all no matter how much otherwise they‘ll act or say
They grossly underestimate their own impact To feel better about themselves and their opinions they’ve so throughly back
Acting like those same opinions make them oppressed
And also acting like we’re the enemy even for simply not being impressed
Not considering that maybe they’re not liked for we’ve seen and felt the weight of what they say
It can be heavy on our backs and you don’t get to pretend like we don’t deal with it everyday
There’s a depth to words that should be considered
So others don’t perceive you as shallow, uninformed or just angry and bittered
Which may or may not be true for I don’t know you well or possibly at all
Just like you don’t know the opponents who you wish would play ball
By listening to what you say and seeing your point rather than ignoring you
But there’s a good chance that they do it because they see right through
Your game that you want to be in your favor and that you want to win
Laughing and jeering at the people you say you want to let you in
To their supposed echo chamber to keep things fair
But they’re almost certainly smarter than you give them credit for
And the conversations are probably deeper and less disingenuous without you there
For if you think you know the entirety of a chamber while snickering and sneering from the door
Looking through that tiny mental keyhole doesn’t make you a visionary or a needed element
Rather it makes dealing with you a chore
