There’s Value In Diverting Emerging Pressures
Wrote this for Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month earlier this year. My own mental health was kind of up and down at the time and I’m certainly not doing too well right now so this poem is a reminder that I could stand to try and internalize even harder than before. Other than that there’s not much else to say. Originally posted this in June 2024.
There’s Value in Diverting Emerging Pressures

You can accumulate a lot while going along your path in life
You can pick up burdens, debts, scars and strife
Things that’ll weigh on you and could bring you down
But you keep going cause you can’t afford to seem rundown
You have to stand strong and never show weakness or signs of a potential breakdown
You do what you have to, well and without complaints as men are supposed to
But should that really be what you put yourself through
A life of putting aside problems and clamming up to prove strong
With some reevaluation and relearning things along the way that really feels wrong
Feels more like a way that’ll lead to someone bursting like a breaking dam
I guess in the short term it works to keep problems and discomfort on the lam
It’s easier to clean up the floodwaters so to speak than look into repairs
Leaving an uneasy pressure as it doesn’t feel like anyone cares
Even in the rough times however you have to have faith that people do
So speak up and don’t let that need for strength and pressure crush you
Looking after yourself is vital and one of the best things
Both for yourself and for others too
