Football Tryouts
by
Furry Sith Lord
Football season was nearing and Dash had convinced Lyon to try out with him. Dash had it in his head that all the girls loved jocks so he wanted to be one. Of course, he would not try out without his best bud by his side so he dragged Lyon along.
“This is gonna be great!” Dash said as Lyon lowered his ears as he looked at his feet.
“Yeah,” He replied softly. He looked around and saw that most of the students were large bull species, all of which were taller than the two of them. It was unheard of to have freshmen trying out and the others chuckled as they saw them.
“What the hell is this?” The Coach said as he looked down at Dash and Lyon. Dash winked at the cheerleaders, as they ignored him, and Lyon looked ready to dig a hole and crawl into it.
“Boys,” The coach said “And I use the term loosely. Shouldn’t you both be in preschool instead of trying out with the big boys?” The Coach said as he flicked his ears and his tail swiped angrily behind him. He was a horse that had black fur with white around the cuffs of his hooves. He had a large white star shape above his nose.
“You know what they say about good things in small packages.” Dash remarked.
“You got balls kid, I’ll give you that, but I’d hate to see them broken on my field.”
“Dash,” Lyon whispered as he tried to grab Dash’s arm but the little rabbit shrugged him off.
“Let’s go! Us versus your whole team!” Dash said and Lyon gulped as everyone laughed uncontrollably.
“Don’t say I didn’t warn you.” The Coach said as he called his team together. “Try not to hurt them too much. It’s probably some hazing prank.” He said to the players as they laughed and took their spots on the field.
“Are you crazy? US versus all of them?” Lyon grabbed Dash and whisper-shouted at him then shook him a couple of times.
“Relax, we can handle these chumps.” Dash said confidently. They lined up and someone tossed Lyon the ball so he could hike it to Dash. Lyon looked as if he had swallowed the football while Dash was busy blowing on his fingernails as he curled his paw into a fist.
“Hike!” Dash shouted and Lyon passed him the ball then began to run through the legs of the players as they looked down in surprise at the tiny white lion.
“Look at that lion go? Who knew a rare white fur species could run like that?” Someone from the crowd watching said.
“He looks lost.” A female remarked as Lyon staggered around. He had lost his way running through their legs and he just kept moving forward because he was worried the bulls would stomp on him.
“Dash, I swear I’ll never forgive you for this.” Lyon muttered to himself as the bull players were falling all over themselves as they tried to follow Lyon as he zig zagged through their legs.
Dash was ignored at this point and he casually waited for Lyon to get into position so he could pass him the ball. Meanwhile Tyger, Lyon’s white tiger brother, strolled by and heard the commotion and wanted to see what was happening.
“What’s going on?” He asked.
“A dumb rabbit and a white lion challenged the entire football team.” He was told and panic took hold as he realized the white lion was his brother.
“Oh my paws,” Tyger remarked.
“Look at him go!” one of the cheerleaders said. “He’s toying with them because they have no idea what’s going on.”
“Yeah,” Tyger said nervously as he watched his brother running through the legs of the confused bulls and he saw a couple collide into each other and fall to the ground as they were focussed downward.
Lyon eventually made his way out and he heard Dash shout at him. He looked around and saw his mistake.
“You’re running the wrong way!” Dash shouted as he threw the ball and Lyon caught it with ease since he was a few feet away from him. Lyon turned around and saw the football team glaring at him.
“Aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Lyon screamed in panic and Dash jumped on his back and pulled on Lyon’s ears to make him run forward.
“Listen to him scream!!!” Someone said,
“He’s too young to roar yet but man what a battle cry that little guy has.” Someone else said as the crowd was mesmerized by the white lion as he ran at the bulls with a rabbit laughing on his back.
“Battle cry…. right.” Tyger said as he covered his eyes afraid to see them stomp his brother and his brother’s best friend. Lyon was busy jumping out of the way as the bulls charged at him and jumped to tackle. Even with Dash on his back Lyon easily avoided the tackles but with Dash getting jostled around, Lyon was again running in different directions between the players. The bulls panicked that the white lion was going to try and run through their legs again.
One bull ran ahead of them and was pushing his teammates out of his way as he was afraid of Lyon as he continued screaming. Lyon chased him by Dash pulling on his ears haphazardly and this made the young bull panic even more.
“What a fur!” a woman shouted as the crowd watched on the edges of their feet.
“That brave little bastard isn’t simply gonna win by making a field goal, he’s gonna destroy every player on the team!” The crowd cheered.
“Ha! They never should have messed with him.”
With the last bit of his strength gone and all the players laying on the ground, Lyon fell to his knees. Dash grabbed the football from him and ran it towards the goal. As he stepped across The Coach blew his whistle and looked at the fallen scattered bulls laying on the field.
“Hot damn. Who would have thought a baby white lion cub and a baby bunny rabbit could destroy my entire team?” The Coach remarked.
“We’re not babies.” Dash said as he glared at The Coach. Without his realizing it Dash had used his rabbit’s speed to run up to The Coach.
“Is it over?” Tyger asked as he still had his eyes covered.
“It’s over tiger boy, and you missed one hell of a slaughter.” A possum said as he walked away with the group as they were telling the tales of Lyon the mighty white lion football player.
“Lyon?!” Tyger shouted in panic and his eyes zoomed in on his brother and he ran as his brother knelt on the field. “Are you alright?” Tyger said as he grabbed his brother and hugged him. Dash was suddenly at their side though they were used to this and it did not surprise them.
“Are you kittying me? Your brother is amazing! Just look at what he did.” Dash replied and Tyger looked around in amazement at the players all laying on the ground.
“You two did this?” Tyger asked in amazement.
“Well technically it was all Lyon’s doing. Believe me, I tried to stop him but once he gets an idea he runs with it. I was just pulled along for the ride.” Dash explained.
“I see.” Tyger replied skeptically. He then helped his brother to his feet and put his arm around his shoulder.
“Alright hit the showers you two.” The Coach ordered. “We have a big day tomorrow.”
“You mean we’re on the team?” Dash asked.
“How could I say no to the two furs that destroyed our entire team. I can’t let you two fall into the wrong paws!” The Coach said and Dash danced for joy as Lyon and Tyger wearily looked at him. “If nothing else you’ll be our secret weapon.”
“A secret weapon? We need a name to inspire fear in our enemies.” Dash said.
“In our enemies.” Lyon moaned as he realized what Dash had dragged him into.
“Lyon what was the name your dad called you before he sold you as a slave?” Dash asked.
“He called me White Disaster, why?” Lyon asked as the memory of his abusive parent brought back memories he never wanted to remember again.
“Oh my paws! That describes you two perfectly. White Disaster.” The Coach chuckled as he walked away to check on his team.
“Your old dad may have meant it as an insult but we’re gonna use it as a source of strength.” Dash monologged as he was being ignored as Tyger led his brother to the locker room.
“This is what happens when you become friends with a rabbit.” Tyger sarcastically lectured.
“I know but he was so little and he seemed so harmless.” Lyon said joining in with his brother.
Like a bitch in heat.
you will fall at our feet.
we’re white, white
disaster!
Get outta our way.
or you’re gonna pay.
we’re white, white
disaster!
we’ll knock you down…
Dash was busy trying to freestyle rap when he suddenly hit a dead end. He yelled back to the brothers as they neared the entrance to the locker room.
“Hey! What rhymes with down?” He asked.
“Orange.” Tyger yelled back sarcastically.
We’ll knock you down.
While you eat an… orange…
We're white, white
Disaster…
The End???
