Celebrating The Resilience Behind That Smile
Wrote this for Mother’s Day last year. A poem honoring my mom and her strength and humor which I’ve always admired. A bit simple maybe but it’s honest and I tried to write it with love in mind. Originally posted in May 2023.
Celebrating The Resilience Behind That Smil** e**

How hard she works has always been a known part of your reality
You know most of all on the days after school you have to wait patiently
For her to pick you up from the same program after school
Listening to her explain and apologize to people annoyed and frustrated somewhere you don’t see
You still hear it though as you’re usually the last one waiting practically every day
While her job keeps her busy
When she comes it’s well into the night and you all go home to dinner
Which still has to be made or sometimes bought but either way it’s there
She makes sure it happens no matter how much else in the day she had to bear
No matter how tired she gets she keeps things moving with a smile
Cause life waits for no one is something she says more than once in a while
You’re always grateful cause at the end of the day you’re usually tired too
Being a kid can be rough and sometimes the day leaves you feeling blue
Meanwhile she stays positive with a sense of humor
Makes you laugh with her joking around as she also takes care of you
It means so much to you
That strength and energy she has
So much more than you can really say
You try to show your appreciation and give back when you can
On plenty of days but especially ones like today and now
It’s Mother’s Day and you’re giving to give some of that hard work and a smile
Cause it’s a day to celebrate her, your way of showing your love with the proper display
For the mom who kept her joy despite juggling so much in raising two kids
But still managed to crack jokes and smile along the way
