It was the sixth and final match of the Final Wars series of matches between New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) and Global Wrestling Monopoly (GWM). The score between the two federations was tied 2-2, with all wrestlers from both sides fighting hard throughout the event. As this would be a tie-breaker match to declare the winner of Final Wars and the fate of the pro wrestling world, both feds chose their strongest wrestler for this last match.
GWM, or rather Tiger's Den, naturally chose their current champion, Tiger the Great the Third: a tall beast of a man packed with dense muscle, yet is just as agile as a real tiger. His grey bodysuit and mask enhanced this look, especially since they had a tiger stripe pattern all over. The mask was his most striking feature due to the yellow eyes and bright green tongue in its opened mouth. Knowing how deadly and barbaric one of his special moves is, one would wonder if he was actually part tiger somehow.
On the NJPW side, hadn't Okada injured his arm fighting Miracle I, he would've been chosen for their side to fight in the final match, as he's the current NJPW champion. Regardless if he did or not, Naoto knew this was his fight from the start. After a quick augmentation on his mask by Haruna combining his and Tiger the Dark's mask, he would face The Third as Tiger Mask W. He'd still done his usual blue and yellow pants and black boots, but his mask looked as if his and Dark's masks were fused together into one, with a single line of stitching splitting them in half.
Little did he know, Haruna added a little something extra to the two-faced mask that would change him…possibly forever.
This wasn't the first time Tiger Mask faced The Third, but they will both soon find out it will be their last. If he wins for NJPW, GWM dissolves and Tiger's Den would be no more. If The Third wins, GWM will quickly become the richest and only wrestling federation in the world.
Miss X was the emcee for the evening, dressed in a tight, red and black catsuit, black boots, and garrison cap that showed her beauty and dominance. She had no difficulty making her way to the center of the ring, mic in hand.
"Ladies and gentlemen, those in between and those who are not! We are on the final, tie-breaker match of the Final Wars!"
She paused to let the crowd go nuts. After all, this has been one of the biggest turnouts in both federations' histories to the point people were flooding out of the arena.
"On the GWM side, their current heavyweight champion, Tiger the Great the Third!!!"
The stage lights shone down on The Third as his hulking, grey figure stood menacingly at the top of the ramp with a few of his fellow Tiger's Den wrestlers behind him, glaring at the crowd as they cheered.
"And for the NJPW side, Tiger Mask W!!!"
Tiger Mask stood just as tall and proud as The Third with his entrance, his tiger-striped cape accenting his heroic face appearance as a few of NJPW's wrestlers behind him as well. He shot a fist up in the air as the crowd both cheered and gawked at his strange, new mask.
"I didn't expect Tiger Mask to come out," Mr. X commented as he stood behind The Third. He and the others who stood behind him made it much clearer how tall and bulky The Third really was compared to the average person.
"Not a problem. I know all of his moves," The Third uttered back.
"Wow! It seems Tiger Mask got a new mask after his old one was destroyed!" The announcer shouted at his table. "It's split right down the middle!"
"You did a good job on such a short notice," Kentaro complimented his niece as they watched from the crowd.
"Hehe, yeah," Haruna replied, feeling a little embarrassed, "I'll admit, it was a rushed job, but I'll make a better one later!" "I just hope that little extra surprise will help Naoto," she thought.
"One side light and the other dark!" The announcer continued to shout from the microphone.
"Wonder if this is the beginning of a new identity?" Commented Fukuwara-san, who was also sitting at the announcer's table.
The crowd kept whooping and hollering as the two tigers sauntered down their respective ramps towards the ring, those who decided to join them closely followed. As they did, they both gave each other a deadly, challenging glare from across the arena for a brief moment - they knew what was at stake, and both would do whatever it took to win the Final Wars.
They both entered the ring as soon as they were able to, with Tiger Mask detaching his cape and tossing it behind him, letting it slowly drift downwards outside the ring. Almost immediately they both locked eyes with each other and they readied themselves for the battle at hand. Neither of them noticed the referee joining them but could hear him asking both tigers if they were ready, to which they both nodded, not once breaking their gaze at each other.
*Sniff* *Sniff* "What's this…smell?" Wondered Tiger Mask, somewhat disgusted by it, "Is it coming from this mask?" He shook off whatever it was, too focused on what he was about to endure and itching for that starting bell to go off.
*DING*
Immediately the two tigers charged at each other, throwing all kinds of punches, elbows, kicks, and knees at each other. Right away it was clear neither of them were holding back, throwing and taking each other's strikes hard with little reaction.
Suddenly after that initial, furious exchange of blows, The Third leaped up and tossed Tiger Mask to the mat with a flying body scissors, quickly going for a pin but the other tiger broke it at the one count.
"What an exciting opening start for our final match of the evening!"
With how quick he was despite his size, the grey tiger got Tiger Mask set up for a piledriver to smash his head into the mat, but didn't expect Tiger Mask to counter so fast by butting his thighs against his head, forcing him to let go.
Once he quickly shook off that feeling, The Third attacked with a jumping spin kick, but suddenly got his leg parried by the other tiger. Tiger Mask then gut checks him and sets him up for a Darkness Driver, slamming his grey head hard on the mat.
"Oooo! Darkness Driver!" Screamed the announcer, "Surprise to see Tiger Mask use that move!"
"Well half his mask is dark," commented Fukuwara-san.
Anyone who was able to see could tell that last move left The Third dazed a bit, but the Darkness Driver wasn't enough to put him out just yet. He was the best of the best in the Tiger's Den. Their Champion! A simple piledriver at the start of the match wasn't going to take him out that easily.
Once The Third got up, he immediately charged at Tiger Mask and went for a punch to his stomach. What he didn't expect was for the other tiger to react so quickly by hooking his leg around his extended arm and pinning it between his legs, all while yanking his other arm back behind him, torquing his pecs as far as his opponent could muster.
"And now a Darkness Hold! He's really putting the hurt on The Third!"
The ref leaned down to The Third. "Give up?"
"NO!" He screamed.
This only prompted Tiger Mask to pull his arm back harder, making him scream in agony.
"Give up?"
"NO!" He screamed again. He then noticed how close his one arm was to the ropes and just barely managed to reach it with the tip of his finger, despite being locked tight between Tiger Mask's powerful thighs.
"Break!"
The Third practically shoved off his opponent as soon as he felt that tension release and reeled back around.
The next few moments seem to happen in a flash, as both tigers tossed each other in different kinds of back throws. The Third spun Tiger Mask into position for a counter, latching his massive arms around his waist, then tossed him in a powerful backdrop.
Yet that didn't down his opponent.
Immediately after Tiger Mask got up, he quickly charged at the larger tiger, flipped over him to latch onto him to toss him in a brainbuster. He then went to follow that up with a punch to The Third's face after seeing him get up, but he was grabbed yet again and was slammed hard onto the mat in a vertical suplex. Between all these throws and slams he was getting put through, that last move left him stunned for a second. He held his head for a moment but wasn't out just yet.
"Amazing! Even a vertical suplex won't do it!" Yelled the announcer.
When Tiger Mask got back up to his feet to face his rival, he let out a roar in defiance. However, this wasn't just a human trying to sound fierce.
"Did he just..." The Third thought.
"Did Tiger Mask just..." Uttered the announcer.
"Did Naoto just..." Kentaro uttered.
"I can't believe it's working already..." Muttered Haruna. "Maybe that perfume I sprayed in his mask activates based on heat? Blood flow? Adrenaline? Sheer fighting spirit?"
What the audience, corner people, commentary booth, and The Third all heard wasn't a man roaring out. No. What everyone heard was a real, loud, frightening tiger roar that a real tiger would make.
Still, while the sound of that may have frightened even the toughest and bravest of wrestlers, The Third was more than them. He not once flinched at the sound of that as they stared each other down - a little roar wasn't going to scare him whatsoever. Then, in a flash, he shot out his boot straight for Tiger Masks's gut, slamming him back closer to the corner. He then quickly grabs at his opponent as if he were to toss him in a vertical suplex again, but then plants him on the top rope in the corner and begins to climb. Knowing this was one move that got him last time as Yellow Devil, The Third put his rival in a headlock and began to put the tiger through a Devil's Crush.
But one, small problem stopped him from doing so. All Tiger Mask had to do to prevent this from happening was hook his toe under the top rope.
The Third was shocked at such a counter, but that was just enough time for his opponent to break the hold, stand up, and go for a headlock of his own. After a solid gut punch then a counter headbutt, The Third got flung off and slammed back onto the mat. Before he had a chance to get up, Tiger Mask leaped off the top rope to slam onto his rival in a Tiger Tornado Press (commonly a phoenix splash) and went for a pin attempt.
The ref began counting down.
"One!"
"Two!"
The Third quickly gets his shoulders off the mat and begins to get up. However, as he did so, Tiger Mask went for another punch to his face. He effortlessly grabbed it before it could make contact, which prompted his rival to throw his other fist.
Grabbed that one too.
With both of the tiger's fists in his grip, he stood up to his full height once again. He tosses those fists away and starts slicing at his rival's chest in a chain of Devil Tornadoes, flinging blood everywhere with each attack. Anyone who knew him as Yellow Devil knows this was almost a literal killing move - every opponent who suffered through this barely made it out alive.
Everyone watching could only see the flurry of attacks being rained down upon Tiger Mask's bulky chest - many wondered if he would even make it out of this at all after going through that barbaric move. However, there was something else going on with his body that seemed to change with each strike, though it was too hard to tell.
Tiger Mask could feel himself weakening and falling back, but quickly caught himself with a flip. He held his chest as he focused on the burning, stinging sensation of those deep cuts. But when he pulled his hand away, he noticed it was a...paw?
"What the...?" As he stood up, he frantically felt around as he took a quick look at what he became. His human skin was replaced with coarse tiger fur head to toe, or at least what was exposed. His boots seemed to burst out as his feet were now replaced with large tiger paws. His tights ripped and bulged from a larger muscle mass they couldn't contain, with more of that orange, stripy tiger fur creeping through the holes. He also noticed the fake ears of his mask blew off and were replaced with real, rounder tiger ears that felt very much attached to his head - the same could be said for the fake mouth portion of his mask, being replaced with a real tiger's muzzle and whiskers. He then felt around behind him and pulled his brand new noodly, stripy tail forward, giving the tip a little wiggle confirming it was real as well.
"Woah! What is going on with Tiger Mask???" Shouted the announcer, trying not to seem too stunned himself.
"Th-That's just a trick! H-He can't be a real tiger now! Could he?" Yelled Mr. X, "That's cheating!"
"This is starting to become quite a clown show," commented Fukuwara-san, "Is this a new part of Tiger Mask's gimmick?"
Both tigers looked to the ref in confusion as the crowd gasped and murmured, all stunned at what just happened right in front of their eyes. Both the NJPW and GWM wrestlers standing ringside were just as stunned.
"N-Naoto?" Uttered Kentaro. "What the hell just happened?"
"Huh...I didn't realize it would work that fast," Haruna thought, turning towards her uncle. "I think he looks better this way, don't you think?"
Kentaro just looked at his daughter in confusion and noticed her blushing a little. "You set this up, didn't you!?"
"Oh please! He was going up against The Third! He needed as big of an edge as he could get! It's destiny!" She exclaimed, smiling and throwing her arms up.
Kentaro just leaned back in his seat and groaned. "If that's what it takes..."
Meanwhile, back in the ring, the ref opted to pause the match and consult with each team and the commentators. Both tigers waited impatiently in their corners, the adrenaline rush from the match still flowing through them. The Third leaned against the turnbuckle and ropes, staring down his opponent and trying to keep his intimidating appearance. However, despite Tiger Mask pacing back and forth, tail flicking about and puffed out, he noticed Tiger Mask now had real, golden tiger eyes. He was able to get a good look at his opponent's new, sharp fangs as his mouth hung open as he snarled. Those claws seem to retract and extend with each breath, and those legs looked strong enough to let him pounce from any distance and maul him.
This was real.
The Third was no longer fighting a young, powerful wrestler in the NJPW roster.
He was about to fight a tiger.
"And the ref decides to continue the match!" Yelled the announcer, much to the dismay of the GWM side.
"You know what they say in the theater: the show must go on," Fukuwara-san chimed in.
"This isn't the theater or a circus! This is wrestling!" Barked Mr. X.
"Same thing, really."
The ref indicated for both tigers to continue. As soon as he did, Tiger Mask immediately turned around and began climbing the ropes as soon as he saw The Third charging for him. He then launched himself off the ropes like he was pulling off a Tiger Fang kick.
"I know this move, tiger. It won't work this time."
The Third went to punch downward to where he thought the other tiger would land, but hadn't realized he landed behind him and not in front of him. Next thing he knew, he still got a Tiger Fang kick square in his back while he was down, feeling those claws scratch his back in the process. But he didn't realize putting his hand on his back made it much easier for Tiger Mask to pull that straight up while hooking one of those powerful legs across his back, locking him in a Tiger Clench.
"Gahhh!!!" The Third roared.
Tiger Mask just gave a low growl in response, keeping him locked in tight.
"Give up?" The ref asked The Third.
"NO!!!" He replied, shaking his head.
Tiger Mask added more torque to the hold, the focus being The Third's shoulder, letting out a low roar.
"Give up?" The ref asked again.
"Grrr! NO!!!"
As Miss X watched what was happening, and knowing Tiger Mask had transformed into a real tiger now, she pulled out a white cloth from her bosom. "Seems I don't have the right to stop the match, Mr. X."
He just looked at it and grimaced. "The Third! Defeat isn't an option for us!"
"I am...Tiger the Great the Third!!!"
That was enough for him to break the hold and shove Tiger Mask away and face his opponent. The tiger quickly got back on his feet, though, feeling more agile and powerful than ever before. He goes to attack but quickly dodges a claw attack from The Third, clawing him back and cutting up his grey mask and drawing blood. But the grey tiger immediately retaliated with a claw attack of his own, knocking the tiger back onto the mat and damaging his mask even more than from the transformation.
The Third went over to the downed tiger, dazed, cut up, and struggling to stand in time. When he went to put the tiger's legs in a figure four, he noticed how much bigger they were and how much they tore through his tights. And as he lifted Tiger Mask up for his killer move, he noticed how much heavier he's gotten as well.
"You may be bigger, stronger, and faster now after your little freak show, but nothing will get you out of Sacrifice!"
With that, The Third jumped high in the air and slammed Tiger Mask on his shoulders, putting as much pressure on his bent legs. He knew he had this tiger this time - it worked before, why would this be any different. Yet he didn't expect the downward pressure would irritate his pulled shoulder from the Tiger Clench so much he couldn't put as much pressure as he usually does.
Tiger Mask took this opportunity and pushed back as hard as he could - it was here he noticed how much stronger he's become. With ease, he broke out of the Sacrifice pin, clawing at The Third's chest in the process, and made his opponent back off and began hugging the corner and nursing his shoulder.
But that didn't stop this tiger at all. Once he got up, he charged at the grey tiger and launched himself in the air using the ropes on both sides, and rammed both his knees into The Third's cut up chest in a Tiger Drive. What he didn't expect was his opponent to grab his knees to slam him down. He then countered by grabbing the back of The Third's head and using that momentum to flip them around to try and secure a pin, but he was launched off at the two count.
The two stared at each other as if they're set on killing each other. Both of them panting hard, tired, cut up, and struggled to stay standing.
It wasn't before long they both went at each other with more punches and kicks, though Tiger Mask struck with his claws when he could. The Third managed to go for a grab at him but he immediately went down to bite on his shoulder, making him let go instantly - it was the same shoulder he pulled when he put the grey tiger in the Tiger Claw.
His strikes managed to back The Third closer towards one of the corners, perfectly allowing to set himself up for another Tiger Fang. He then quickly climbed then launched himself off the ropes again for his killer move.
"Again!! I've had enough of your antics!!" The Third yelled as he went to counter, but his shoulder was burning and writhing with so much pain that he got the full force of that tiger heel right in his face, then a powerful knee strike right under his chin. All he did after that was fall flat on his face to the mat, mangled, cut up, and bloodied.
The ref started counting down, though it was obvious to both him and everyone else in the arena that The Third was not getting up. He waved his arms over The Third, declaring the end of the match and signaling the bell.
"That's a TKO!! This match is over! NJPW wins the Final Wars!" Yelled the announcer over the roaring crowd as the ref held up Tiger Mask's stripy arm in victory. While he too looked just as cut up and bloodied as The Third, Tiger Mask stood tall and proud, stripy tail raised behind him. Mr. X and the rest of the GWM side were the only ones groaning and wallowing in defeat.
"Wooo! Go Naoto!" Yelled Haruna.
"Hey is that, uh...is that...permanent?" Kentaro asked, gesturing towards Tiger Mask.
"Oh! Um, w-well, uh..." She stammered, looking away from her uncle, "Sorry, I just need to use the restroom, hehe. Be right back!" She lied, quickly shuffling past the rest of the audience members in their row like she was fleeing from him.
Kentaro just looked at her stunned as she left for a moment, then shrugged and crossed his arms watching what was going on in the ring. "Crazy kid..."
* * *
Of course, Haruna did end up going to the bathroom, though only as an excuse to keep away from prying eyes. There wasn't too long of a line to enter the women's room, seeing that she made it just before the big rush now that the Final Wars is over. But after her uncle asked that question earlier, time was of the essence - she couldn't be waiting around in line for some privacy.
She jumped out of the line and walked at a brisk pace in hopes to find a small nook or room where no one would stumble upon her.
"Shit, shit, shit! I totally forgot to check if this was permanent!" She thought as she frantically searched for a hiding spot. "Uncle's gonna kill me! Naoto's gonna kill me! Or eat me, I'm not sure which is worse!"
Eventually Haruna had to make due and ducked behind the nearest inclined column. She seemed to be far enough away from most of the crowd and any staff no one would bat an eye at her. She then pulled out a small, golden perfume bottle with a label on the front that read ???? (Tiger Transformation) along with a monochrome, feral tiger in a traditional, Japanese style. She quickly flipped it around in her hand but the only text there was the list of ingredients and application instructions - there was nothing about any side effects.
"Dammit..." She murmured, checking again to see if anyone was giving her unwanted attention. She pulled out her phone and looked up where she bought this perfume from. It was then she realized there wasn't any indication of who made this, that or she missed it completely. Checking the bottle again, she found the name and everything began to come back to her.
The site she got this from was one of those shops where anyone can sell hand-made or personalized goods and services, yet has a more friendlier appearance in its design. When she looked up the name of the shop and found the perfume she bought, she frantically scrolled up and down the page trying to see if there's any information on side effects.
Nothing other than advertising it will make you smell and feel like a tiger.
Hoping to gain some more insight with the reviews, she scrolled down there and filtered for the one-star ones. Majority of them claim it doesn't work or smells awful, and few have reported rashes from using it. Yet none have claimed anything of an actual transformation happening to them or whoever they gave it to so far. After a quick search, there was only one, three-star review from someone who didn't give their location, nor was their purchase verified:
_ This works _
I dabbed a little of this on myself and suddenly became the tiger I was meant to be. The tail takes some time getting used to. Kinda smells bad but I also got used to that too.
"*Tch.* That's helpful..." Haruna murmured.
"What's helpful?" Asked a mature, feminine voice of someone suddenly standing in front of her.
Whoever it was startled her and she made a small scream as her head snapped up, quickly hiding the perfume and her phone. "O-Oh, Miss...X?"
"That didn't answer my question," Miss X replied in a teasing tone and resting a hand on her hip. She still wore her skin-tight outfit and hat she wore during the Final Wars.
Haruna held a breath, then let it out with a long sigh as she stood up, still somewhat hiding behind the pillar. "Promise me you won't tell anyone about this..." She pleaded, struggling to look up at the taller dominatrix.
"Oh please! You, me, everyone watching that match tonight saw what happened to Tiger Mask. There's no point in keeping the cause a secret anymore."
She looked to the floor for a moment before responding. "Okay..." With bated breath, Haruna pulled out the perfume bottle from her pocket and showed it to Miss X, still trying to be as discreet as possible. Yet as soon as she procured the bottle, the taller woman snatched it from her hand to examine it.
"Interesting...'Tiger Transformation' huh?" She flipped it over to look at the back. "Hmm...sounds just like any other perfume or cologne to me..." She was about to spritz a sample on her wrist but Haruna grabbed her and yelped.
"Miss X! Don't spray that!"
She stopped, heeding the young woman's warning, even if this all seems a bit silly to her. She examined the bottle a bit more to figure out what's so special about this perfume, elixir, potion, whatever it's called.
"Where did you get this anyway?"
"Uh, internet?"
She just scowled in annoyance at Haruna. "Show me..."
She complied and showed Miss X her phone, feeling all kinds of shame. The taller woman snatched her phone from her and began scrolling up and down that same page, though was more confused as to why Haruna was freaking out.
"I couldn't find anything about side-effects or if this change would last his whole lifetime. You can scroll up and down that page, look all over that store for information, you won't find anythi--"
"You were saying?" Miss X cut her off and showed her the screen. On it was a simple FAQ section for the store. Highlighted was the question and answer about the store's "special perfumes" and all the information they needed.
Haruna was a bit dumbfounded, though she blamed it on her panicked state as to why she didn't see that sooner. When she grabbed her phone and read the answer, her dumbfounded look turned to that of worry and regret. She let herself fall back against the wall behind her and slid down back to how she was seated before, gripping her hair in a panic.
"Dammit..."
"Yep...'fraid Tiger Mask is...well, a tiger for real now. And he will be for the rest of his life."
"I just wanted to help him win is all...The Third is a beast of a man! There was no way--"
"And you used it to cheat at one of the biggest, most important wrestling tournaments in the world. You have possibly ruined Tiger Mask's career forever with your little trick." Miss X just stood tall, looming over Haruna with her arms crossed and a scowl on her face as she scolded the young woman. Her dominatrix outfit only enhanced her dominating demeanor in this moment.
Yet she softened up as soon as she saw Haruna with her head buried behind her arms and knees, all curled up to hide her shame. She relaxed her arms and crouched, placing a hand on Haruna's shoulder.
"I won't tell anyone. Promise."
Haruna looked up, wiping a bit of her tears away and letting out a sigh of relief. She smiled a bit but that turned to confusion and curiosity. "There is one thing though..."
"That is?"
"Why should I trust you to not tell your boss about this? Aren't you part of GWM? Shouldn't you be on your way out with the rest of them?"
Miss X let out a chuckle. "I'll be honest, I haven't been a huge fan of GWM lately. Now that they won't take over Japan, I'm a free woman. I can do whatever I please. With all the wealth I've gained though my involvement with them, all the knowledge of how the wrestling world truly works, I've decided to start my own league!"
Haruna's smile turned to that of keen interest. "I'm listening..."
"I think you and I both know us women seem to be kept ringside for too long. It's time we show these men how strong we can be in the ring!" She then placed both her hands on Haruna's shoulders. "Listen. I want to start a joshi puro league. You have a lot of know-how with wrestling as well, yes?"
"Of course! I've aided Tiger Mask since the beginning of his career."
"Haruna...I want you to join me in this endeavor. Will you be one of my wrestlers?"
Immediately her eyes lit up as she held her breath, trying not to let her excitement burst out and attract any more attention. She then hugged Miss X tightly, catching her by surprise, though not unwelcomed.
"I'll take that as a 'yes,'" she chuckled, releasing herself then standing up again. She then pulled out her business card from her cleavage and gave it to Haruna. "When you come up with a gimmick, let me know."
She took the card and glanced at it for a moment. "Thank you, Miss X," she said as she began to stand up.
Miss X smiled then began to walk away, but suddenly stopped mid-stride to look back at Haruna. "Oh! One more thing..."
"Hmm?"
"You may use that little perfume if you wish. It might be tricky working with your, um, side-effects, but I'll allow it," she said with a smile and a wink before continuing on her way.
She pulled the bottle from her pocket again and took a good, long, contemplative look at it. She held it in her hand with full confidence, willing to take any risks necessary to fulfill her one opportunity to become a wrestler.
"I should tell Uncle about all this..."
